I work in factory where these are built. When it goes off the assembly line, hear starting the engine, the sound of V8 and echo off it across the builidng..... just beautiful :) even the standard Q7 is very sophisticated.

Then you`re comparing tuned vs none.. Diesel always have more TQ even at much power BHP.. Many tracks favors TQ and NBR is one of them..

Steve, it's not tuned. It's stock. Tuned would be Brabus or Carlsson, etc. That TDI is the most powerful 4.0 V8 in the world so I compare it to the most powerful 4.0 V8 petrol in the world. Don't forget that this TDI also uses supercharger in addition to two turbos whereas petrol only need two turbos to make the same torque and significantly more HP. You can do the same comparison with 6-cyl. 3.0 engines and 4-cylinders 2.0 and you will see that turbo petrol engines have pretty much the same torque as turbo diesels but much more horsepower. If you compare the same layout (i.e. twin turbo) the diesel has no chance. Of course if you compare petrol with 1 turbo and diesel with 4 turbos (BMW 3.0), than the diesel will be more powerful.

For example, the most powerful petrol 2.0 engine today (AMG) 380 hp / 475 Nm the most powerful diesel 2.0 engine today (VW) 240 hp / 500 Nm As you can see, the difference in torque is negligible but the difference in horsepower is huge. Moreover the peak torque in petrol engines is available in much WIDER range of rpm than in diesel. If you want to compare tuned: Alpina/BMW 3.0 petrol - 440 hp / 660 Nm Alpina/BMW 3.0 diesel - 345 hp / 700 Nm Again, negligible difference in torque, big difference in power. Horsepower is function of torque + engine speed (rpm), therefore, diesel with the same torque will never make so much power as petrol because it simply can't rev so high as petrol engine.

We own a white SQ7 and yes, it does drink a lot of diesel when you push it (i would say about 25l/100km at 250kmh) .. but what I find really surprising is, that you can actually drive this car normally and get under 8l/100km .. and I'm not talking about driving like a granny, just sticking to the speed limit and not accelerating like you're on the run.

Actus Von ganz wenigen Ausnahmen (Förster, Segelflieger,...) haben Autos nichts im "leichten Gelände" zu suchen. Die meisten SUV-Fahrer nutzen die Geländefähigkeit, um illegal auf Grünflächen zu parken. Der Rest ist Angeberei und Machtdemonstration im Straßenverkehr.
