EVERYONE TAKE NOTE: THE iD4 (a GREAT product) IS THE ONLY AUDIENT PRODUCT THAT DOES NOT USE THEIR PRO MIC PRE’S OR BURR-BROWN AD/DA’S! SPEND THE EXTRA $100 FOR THE iD14! SO amazing sounding. Finally! You don’t NEED an Apollo Twin to get all pro sound.

Its not about what chip is used because all manufactures use the same chips from Cirrus Logic, TI, AKM, ESS Sabre etc. Its the analog circuitry around the chip, compactors, Power supply, Clocking, Analog staging that all effects its sound quality sonic's, dynamic range and noise floor. You can have the top of the line ADC chip and still sound like shit. There's a reason why many interfaces and converters cost $2k-$3k. The lower the THD+N and the higher the dynamic range, the better.

I'm looking to switch from the 2i2 to an id4 or id14 because with the 2i2 when playing games and shit it'll start to crackle and sound like absolute dog shit static until I unplug it and plug it back in, and when I stream it will also make my shure sm7b sound like it's blowing up. (sounds like a crackle robot for lack of better words.) I have a very good pc which is a i7 4790k @4.0ghz with a gtx 1070 and 16gb 1866mhz ram. I should have absolutely no issues, but for the amount of money I paid for this I shouldn't be having these types of issues.

I am very satisfied with the audint iD4 as Audiointerface on iPhone 6S for Garageband and Musicmemos. Just need powered USB Hub and "USB-to-Camera"-Kit for iOS. Sounds great, stable built metal case, stable software, good and easy to use stuff for iphone, and i also tried out focusrite and apogee One. Apogee - great sound, seems to enhance some overtones and really nice "colouring" the sound a little bit. But the maestro software freezes sometimes, and my testing device had humming on guitar input. Focusrite the drivers suck when i tested it. But for serious work - i go with RME on the Mac Mini (2012). Best drivers, and best low latency behavior on the audio market without costing to much CPU power. So i can load 10 X more VST synths and effects in a song with RME then with any other affordable device. That makes the price "relative cheap". With other devices you will load 2-3 synths, and your CPU is at 95% and DAW freezes, when you use low latency settings. A question of the art of driver programming - and RME seems to have the best heads for that job. The RME Fireface QCX for example is 1000€ - BUT it has many in and outs and sounds professional, is 100% stable - and you dont need any external mixer anymore, especially when you work with VST / AU synths that the best way to go, or start with Babyface from RME.

Greetings fellow musicians,thanks for the video.There is a price to pay when using Audient iD14 which is latency issues, however comparing the Id14 and Scarlett 2i2 which i have first-hand experience on both,iD14 sound quality is by far the best.You just have to quantize in your DAW.The good news is your fans or clients don't know you quantize ,they just appreciate the good music and quality. So iD14 is the best for me. Thanks

How is the latency on your ID4?
@eman0828

I've owned a Audient in the past and the drivers are horrible on Windows. Nothing but clicks and pops. Same with Focusrite. I went MOTU and never looked back. They have the best drivers in the game along with RME. Have both the MOTU 828ES and the MOTU M4. The M4 essentially broke the record in the sub $200 market that even out performs ID14 in digital conversion spec that I use to own. I had an Apogee Quartet for a whole month to tree out and I heard very little difference between the MOTU and the Apogee converters that were sonically close but again the drivers performed better on the Motu than the Apogee.

Good to see I'm not alone having issues! My 8i6 gave me so much troubles. Those scarlets sound really good for the price and functionality and latency is great and all but the drivers are very, very poorly written. I've had to re-install the drivers, mix control, my DAWs and Windows all together, sooo many times. That is when the fiddling around you mention won't work anymore. Also I have to power off/on the device pretty much every time I change sample rate or when my studio monitors, that have a standby mode, freeze the interface when signal is fed to them and they turn on. Still, I love Focusrite gear and I like that they're trying to bring out their great sound to the masses at a nice price. I was curious about the 2nd gen interfaces and had hopes that they might have done it better but it seems that they haven't. If only audient would make an interface with more inputs... I guess it's going to be between Steinberg or Roland for me! Thanks for the review!

It sounds like your talking about the 1st gen, right? It's weird because I had the 1st gen 2i4 and it worked perfectly on my computer. I could run it at the highest settings all the time and max out the CPU without any crackling issues or anything. I guess it just varies on each individual setup. I was hoping for that same kind of flawless performance with the 2nd gen but unfortunately that's not the case. For the most it works fine when I'm using it for recording, which is great, but at other times the drivers cause random problems. Like this morning I turn on some music and sound is only coming out of the left speaker. Unplugging and replugging fixed it, but it's just another one of those random issues...
@SimonChampagne
@SimonChampagne 8 жыл бұрын
+Masters-of-Music Yeah the 8i6 is from the very first gen that came even before your 2i4 (the body design was different back then). So I guess that it depends greatly on the pc hardware and compatibility. Still, it's pretty unacceptable from a brand like focusrite. Thanks for the video!

I was very sceptical for the audient id4 and it turned out to be better then my Scarlett 2i2 2nd gen and yes the scarlet crashes occasionally which my audient has not yet. I can currently get it to record guitars at 3ms latency with the bias amp vst and ezdrummer running with no crackles or popping so I'm guessing if you have a good cpu it handles the latency better. Specs are windows 7 i5 4570, 4gb ram, 500gb space.

This is an idiotic comment. People can get 24/96k interfaces that are rock solid, have latency faster than the human ear can hear, and they cost - drum roll - less than *$100* In the past, getting a similar sort of "pro-channel" interface for a PC for a home recordist? You'd be looking at Apogee converters, and super-premium pre-amps, and audio-cards that were far more-resource intensive and persnickety. You'd be talking thousands and thousands of dollars. In short: you're living in a time where kids in high-school can afford equipment and capabilities that only 1 generation ago were far beyond the budget of anyone except pro studios. Get a grip

You definitely had a defective unit, the Audient is a much better sounding interface that competes with those costing much more (UA Apollo, Apogee, RME). Used to own a Scarlet 2i2, Steinberg UR22, Behringer UMC404HD, now I have an Audient iD14, better build, way more powerful headphone out, way better preamps and AD converter. It's not even close, sorry.

SO now I want to ask what were using to make that happen? was it your microphone maybe? your interface? your camera? phone? another recording device? will you let me know? the clarity and presence is so good I may want to record my music through whatever it is!!! thank you

Canon Powershot SX130IS. Being recorded in a large open room also had a lot of effect on the sound. Also the 2nd gen Scarlett kills the iD4 now that I've had more time to reflect on this comparison. The Audient doesn't come close to matching the low latency of the Scarlett while maintaining smooth performance at high CPU loads.

Masters-of-Music thank for the replies. but did you compare the scarlet to the prosonus studio artist? there is zero latency with the prosonus! but the pre amp to my ears was not good, and taking away from the quality of the sound. I was only using it to record ideas and demos when song writing.. how is scarlet over all? and is the latency noticeable on the recordings? sag is never good to my ears, especially when working out ideas musically! I think I may just use the cannon for my ideas..

Personally after having owned and used both of these boxes, I prefer the Focusrite. The ID4 is a good box it's just not quite at the same working level of sound quality and latency reduction as that of the Focusrite. Also the visual clip dials of the Focusrite make it super easy to adjust to avoid clipping. I don't find that the ID4 has the same advantage in this way. Having said that I'm a guitarist so I guess it depends on what you need from your workstation. Oh, also I feel like the Focusrite works a little smoother with PreSonus Studio One Pro v.3 than the ID4 does. So, take in your DAW into consideration.

64 samples is not out with the id4, it's just that your pc and DAW can't handle it. I get 2.4 ms in Studio One with the Audient iD22.
@masters-of-music7602
@masters-of-music7602 8 жыл бұрын
I've come to the conclusion that Audient's drivers just don't work as well on some systems as others. They can blame it on my PC if they want but the fact remains that the 2nd gen 2i2 runs fine at 32 samples on the same PC and I can drive the CPU hard at 64 samples above 90% without the slightest issues, whereas the iD4 starts to crackle at 128 samples when pushing the CPU above 50%. I use amp sims and they require a lot of CPU power and low latency and the iD4's drivers just couldn't cut it.

Gibberish. look at their actual technical specs and tell me which of the minor differences in dynamic range, signal to noise, freq response, etc.... is the one that you think makes one "10x better". And don't tell me you have magic ears, and you just *hear* the superiority.

As to the Audient iD4, all I can say is, they've got to be kidding. Only ONE Combo input? The other one is just an instrument line input? I'm outa here. I've placed an order for a MOTU M4 interface. It will be July when it is delivered, likely. No hurry. The M4 has TWO Combo inputs, PLUS two more line inputs, either for 2 separate instrument, OR the two inputs can function as ONE Stereo input. Great for playing accompaniment music, karaoke background music etc. Just in the past few days, with experimentation, I have realized that you CANNOT input stereo music into a Combo input. If you use a TRS cable, the right stereo channel is dampened down. If you use a TS cable you might burn up your outputting device, which is the warning by sellers of 1/8 TRS to 1/4 TS cables on Amazon.

9.3 ms is pretty good and works well for me but the iD4 doesn't always run smoothly at that setting on my computer with an i5 CPU and Windows 7. I'll give it to you straight, since no one else seems to want to. The Scarlette 2i4 has midi in+out, RCA out, and better inputs. If you're comparing preamps, which I personally prefer FocusRite's, just spend the extra money and get an Apogee. Additional free pro tip #293: Don't use beats headphone to mix, spend a lot less money and get something that actually works, like AKG K240s. The idea is to get flat sound, not some polished fake bullshit.

Thanks so much for your clarification there. If it wouldn't have an impact, I would be going for Scarlett 2i2 and use it to plug my xlr mics into it, and then get a cable with bus connection from my midi keyboard right to my computer (I use Abelton as my DAW). Because of latency issues I will instead go with either a Scarlett 2i4 or Zoom UA C-2. Does anyone have experience with either of the two. I am not sure which one to get.

It depends on what you need. I've settled on using the 2nd gen 2i2 because the super low latency is too good to pass up for playing D.I. guitar and e-drums. I'm willing to put up with a few bugs for better overall performance. The iD4 won't run at the higher settings on my Windows 7 PC with an i5 CPU so that put the nail in the coffin for it.

I'm a musician too, and I found it important to learn about mixing, mastering, and hardware. it's all very important. Id recommend that you start learning asap. If you don't wanna learn, then being a self made musician isnt for you. Just go to a studio and pay the money to have people do everything for you if all you wanna do is play one instrument

I have a question, I am mainly EDM producer but I also want to record rapers in my home studio, Im using Logic X and Krk rokit 5g3. I cant decide between this (price for ID4 is 99 euros) vs focusrite scarlet 2i2 2nd generation (120 euros right now). Is the sample rate of ID4 24 bit / 96 khz problem against focusrites scarlet 2i2 with 24-bit/192 kHz? (Or it isnt diference between those two for my needs?) Which is better choice ? And one more question for example situation : me as producer behind my MacBook and studio monitors, I want to hear what for example rapper or singer (in recording room) is singing but also he or she (singer) wants to hear that to their headphones at same live recording time :/ Is this possible make it happen on ID4? Because I cant see any separate volume knob for headphones like for example on focusrite scarlett 2i2. Or if I understand it correctly, if I plug headphones to the ID4 big volume knob is for volume in headphones but at this time Im also controling same audio level on pluged studio monitors? So volume on headphones and monitors are on same level? Or I can control it independently on Audient ID4 ? Or is this possible to do both at same time on Audient ID4 or it is possible only on 2i2 do monitoring on headphones and monitors at same time with diferent volume? Thank you

Honestly. From the A - B's I've heard so far there is no comparision in the quality from the Mic Preamp... Yes it has more features and to me the Scarlett looks a bit better but if you are like me and care for that clean signal... You should really consider the Audient iD's. Also the iD4 has 2 working Headphone Jacks... Yes you get to hear the exact same signal which is still shit but if you record anyone but yourself it will still come in handy... Can't really tell why no interface has this nowwadays, it's such a basic nessecary feature that you have to pay so much for, because it's only in the higher end interfaces...

and I can vouch for it as well. iD14 is better. I've done a lot of research on audio interfaces because I don't like buying a lot, I rather buy once and buy a decent one instead of buy cheap and keep upgrading, and at this price range Audient is 100% better. The amps are so freaking dull on Focusrite interfaces that it's not even funny that they get promoted so much, especially with the amount of problems people have with them. (Google "Focusrite interface problem". There are companies that are just as famous as Focusrite e.g. PreSonus and people don't complain about problems with their interfaces as much, not even close. So it's not just a popularity thing or more sales thing e.g. more people buy Focusrite and that's why there are more problems. In reality it's a Focusrite cut corners problem and make shit interfaces and pay many people off to promote them, especially in articles). No respectable person that cares about quality will ever promote such crap in this industry. Amps on Audient and nice and clear and If you look up videos of people comparing those interfaces you will see what I am talking about. For this price range go for Audient, if you have more money to spend go for RME. Do you research!

If you're looking for a good preamp only buy focusrite if you're on windows 7. Focusrite sucks at making drivers. I been using them for about 5 years now and they cannot make a dependable driver for windows 10 at all. I use the 2i2 and the gain knob has to be at 100 to even hear myself. Tested it on windows 7 and it's completely fine. I'd say get the stenberg ur22 or behrimger. Much better drivers Focusrite driver support really sucks.
