Thank you so much for this video! There aren't many audio editing tutorials out there specifically for asmr. As a complete audio beginner, I really appreciate you having taken the time to make this video. One thing I've been struggling is volume. After all the editing, how do you know if it's the right volume to upload to KZbin? Is there a certain volume that's recommended? I have no idea how to tell 😅
@JustinKPrim3 жыл бұрын
The closer you can get it to 0 is best. You don't want to get so close that it goes over 0 which should make a red light pop up and means its clipping and making distortion. You really have to use your ears as you're boosting it. If it starts to sound distorted or smashed or flattened in some weird way, you've pushed it too far. The best thing to do is listen to another normal youtube video and then listen to yours without changing the speaker volume and see if yours sounds quiet or normal.

Thank you so much for sharing! I always use a limiter when recording (not after) so my audio won't clip - does this negatively impact the sound?
@JustinKPrim3 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't as long as your settings aren't too extreme. In my sequence, the Ozone plugin is acting as my final limiter. Ideally the limiter should be the last thing in your plugin chain so that other plugins don't raise the volume above 0 after the limiter.

Thank you for this video! My recent video now sounds much better. The only part I got stuck at was I didn't have option to export directly back into premiere pro for some reason so I exported it as an MP3 and then got it into Premiere Pro (ugh). I didn't have the same window in Audition that you had to begin with (at 5:14 where you have 2 tracks and a master - I had just one track and no master... and no options to turn Left all the way to the left like you showed.) - Do you know how to get those windows to pop up? Maybe it's because I recorded on cardioid on my blue yeti instead of stereo? 2nd question: I feel like my recent video is too loud. Do you know how to make sure it doesn't go above the maximum? I set DB maximum to 0 but then the entire volume went down :/ Thank you!
@aithereaasmr3 жыл бұрын
As for cardiod function, all this means is that the mic is only picking up sound from directly in front of it (can be great for reducing background noise and only picking up on your voice) but itll still translate to a stereo rather than a mono track in most editing software; however, that wont give it 2 tracks. He has 2 tracks because he is using 2 mics. If you did want a binaural sound from the yeti, you can use the stereo mode pattern, but I don't believe that will translate into 2 tracks either.
@jorgedelarco88512 жыл бұрын
If your video is too loud maybe the problem is that the audio clipped above 0 db while you recorded. If that is not the case you should learn a little bit about compression that way you can make the louder parts of your audio quiter. The reason why setting max volume to 0 dB is that your computer is moving the loudest part is hitting 0dB but it is moving the other parts of the audio too so overall its quiter. If you dont mind having your whole audio on less volume you can always turn the gain down so its not clipped. Anyways the best solution for your problem might be using a compressor.

Hello, great video, you are a professional in your field, could you tell us, we have a ZOOM-H8, and we want to record the sounds of crunching, rustling for asmr, for example, watermelon crunching or seeds falling on the table, how would you recommend setting up our recorder with standard microphone XY, thank you
@JustinKPrim2 жыл бұрын
Well with an x-y mic just point it at what you want to record, get as close as you can, and turn the gain up as high as you can without clipping or distorting. I’m not sure if the x-y mic will give you a very big sound space in the headphones. I had an h8 many years ago and it’s a great recorder but never tried it for asmr. But definitely give it a try and pan the left and right out as far as you can in editing for the biggest sound space you can make. Good luck.

I’m using the Adobe suite so Adobe Premiere can do audio and video and Adobe Audition is a dedicated sound app. For free or cheap ones, I am not sure. I haven’t tried any.
