Well, the entire first side of the Audio Fidelity Stereo Test Album (1963 Edition) is indexed as only one track, so, here you go.
NOTE: I've encoded this one as an uncompressed, lossless HD track so you can truly appreciate all the surface noise.
NOTE #2: Anyone expecting a decent technical assessment of their sound setup will be sorely disappointed.

Thank you so much for posting this! Like so many others, I'd played the heck out of this as a kid; it was one of the few albums I was allowed to play. I still, to this day, will say: "AH-HA, YOU LOSE!" I was explaining to my wife why I say this phrase with a Russian accent, so sought out a copy online. I haven't heard this for 50 years! Yup, thank for the memory refresh!

OMG. I listened to this about 100 times as a kid in the early 70's. I haven't heard any of it since about 1978 though. Listening now, I still remember all of it, down to the last beat. Thank you so much for posting this!

Brian Greenspan Wow! I am so happy someone posted this. My dad used to play the entire Side A of this record and this was my favorite album as a kid. Especially the part when it says..."You can take a trip around the world without leaving your easy chair...". My dad used to crank up the airplane effect at full volume and I thought, Whoa! Thank you for posting one of my fondest memories as a child.

Like the title says, and speaking of stereo, “Fantasia” was released 80 years ago today in 1940 being the first D***** film to feature an earlier version of stereophonic sound called “Fantasound”. That was way before Audio Fidelity came along with the launch of stereophonic albums in 1957, along with the soundtrack to “Fantasia” as well.

So glad to have found this. Like many others, my father had this back in the day and played it a lot. I can't remember if it was on a record, but I'm thinking it was on a reel to reel tape. I have all his tapes. Will have to see if I can find it. I always loved listening to it. Too bad it's not on CD somewhere for purchase... Thanks bunches for posting it :)

Sensacional !

Thank you so much for sharing this! I've been looking for this for years at swap meets and flea markets. My Father bought a Clairtone ( high end low production Canadian manufacturer) walnut console stereo/phono with colour TV in 1965, and it had this exact demo record included. My sister and I were amazed at the stereo effect, esp. when heard on a high end stereo.

I'm currently testing a couple of small, portable bluetooth speakers arranged in a stereo setup. . . . it works. =0.0= While this works fine when both speakers are in front of me, left side and right side, it seems the stereo effect works even better with each speaker positioned to one side of my head or the other. This makes sense, considering that its my ears which enjoy the benefit. Now - I gotta figure out how to do something more than just holding these things in my hands out at arm's length while sitting at my desk. :-)

The 'frequency range test' shouldn't be taken too seriously.... The chain of audio, and outside noise, limits it's 'accuracy' especially in the higher ranges.... Think about it: a somewhat scratchy record, compression into digital file, re-sampling by youtube, and then maybe going through a marginal audio stage (computuer, phone, tablet) and definitely sub-par speakers...

Why were yesterday's stereo recordings more stereophonic than today's ones? I mean, you can hear each musical instrument on the channel they were recorded at the studio and tell if it was right or left. Today's stereo recordings seems to be all mixed up, you can rarely perceive channel divison ! Any ideas? -- (gilberto lehrer from brazil)
@RJDA.Dakota
@RJDA.Dakota 4 жыл бұрын
They could still do it but it’s the way all this is nowadays mixed in the studio. Back in the early days of the then new stereo system, they used to have extreme left and extreme right. Some companies mixed this so that there was a “phantom” or ghost speaker in the center. One company called this “visual sound stereo” and several of these recordings still sound awesome as they used to when they were new.
