I should try a PreSonus PX-1 vs Maono PM500 :). I only used the PreSonus mic I own for doing voices but not yet for singing or instrument recording.

Near the end of this comparison I state which is best for pure audio. There is much to hear, the one test I didn't do is showing Instrument recording but that win without a doubt goes to the AT4040. I ended up purchasing the AT4040 and sold off my Sennheiser MKE600.

AT got rid of the 3035 the few years back. Dropped it $150 changed the metal and got cheaper electronics to make it a vocal specific. Called it 2035. If you need to do instruments and vocals 4040. Just vocals, 2035.

The AT4040 has a wider sound stage. The AT4040 is better no matter the situation for instruments or vocals. I found a wonderful foam so I can speak into the capsule without a pop filter which you would see me using in all my new videos. The AT2035 isn't bad but the highs and lows drop off somewhat making the sound stage feel a little more compressed. It is hard to tell the difference but it is there. If you were recording a guitar you'd likely never notice unless recording a bass guitar or a singer with a very deep or high singing range.

@@Lil_Kreimer_Thug AT2020 is a budget mic, AT4040 is for aure better. AT2035 isn't better than the AT4040 but the AT2035 is so close but so much cheaper that it is hard to justify spending on the AT4040... The lower the number is lower end with these AT mics. Sometimes they seems to take a 4000 to a 2000 series but the 2 last numbers 20 vs 40 higher # being what I am going to call a rank. Higher rank number the higher end.
