I love audiobooks! I have an autoimmune disorder that involves my immune system attacking my brain so reading from a book can be very challenging sometimes or even impossible depending on the day. With audiobooks I’m able to enjoy a story without getting frustrated with myself, and I can even put it on a slower speed if I’m having trouble understanding. Thank you for the recommendations!

“Audiobooks count as real reading.” - YES!!!! So happy you made this video. Only this year have I started getting into audiobooks! The last one I listened to was Evelyn Hugo and WOW!!! So fantastic. Also, would highly recommend the audiobook for Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. I absolutely loved the narrator in that one and I think it’s a story you would love! Think I’m going to be listening to a lot more audiobooks once I start university!!! They’re likely to be my saving grace! 😅 As always, this video was wonderful. Thank you for sharing your experiences and recommendations! Hope you’re doing really well. All the love to you Hannah! 💙💙💙

Audiobooks mean a lot to me. English is my second language and as a result of that I'm quite a slow reader. I read around 30 pages per hour in English whereas I read around 100 pages per hour in French, my native language. It's not because I don't understand the language or have problems with certain words, I consider myself fairly fluent. I just read slower in a language that's not my mother language. If you're familiar with the experience, you'll know it's very frustrating. So what I do to keep up my "normal" rate of reading, I read along audiobooks. It's much more immersive that way and I retain so much more of the story's content! P.s. I wanna add that, if you're a slow reader, it's not a big deal! Everyone has different paces, it's just that it's frustrating for me 🤷🏻♀️
@emmacarolinereads6 жыл бұрын
That's very true about reading more slowly in a language that's not your mother tongue. Switch French and English around and that's exactly the same for me. Even if a French book has fewer pages than a book I'm reading in English, it will take me twice or even three times as long to finish the French book because my brain doesn't absorb the language as quickly as English. It also means I often have to re-read the same sentence a few times until it sticks, which is infuriating.

Totally agree that a fantastic narrator can add a whole new dimension. I actually couldn't get into to Harry Potter when I was in elementary school-- then later I picked up the audio books and FELL IN LOVE. On a side note, The Diviners series by Libba Bray is also incredible on audio -- one narrator, so many complex characters brought to life :)

Please do more audiobook recommendations. I like listening to them. There are books I just don't have the patience to read but I can totally listen to the audiobook. Then I feel good about listen to the book even if it isn't that good. Plus when I have a hard time falling asleep, I can turn on an audiobook I've listened to or read before and sleep like a baby
@Maggie.can.hug.every.cat.6 жыл бұрын
i never really liked audiobooks, not saying they don't count as real reading, just they didn't suit my style of reading. I am better able to understand and soak up words when I can see them and the spelling and the shape and all that, I don't know if that makes any sense, but seeing the words enhances the experience for me. Also I find it a lot easier to lose focus and str listening. But I have recently discovered that I love listening to books I have already read. I mean it helps that if I'm looking to reread it I must already really like the book, but I feel like this way because I have seen the words before I have more of a feel for them when I'm not looking at them. I like that I can turn the lights off and lie in bed and its like reading or watching a movie without having to use your eyes.

I'm the same way! I have listened to audiobooks before without having read the book beforehand, but whenever there's a new book I'm excited to read I nearly always wish to read the printed version for the best experience. Rereading my favorite books however is so enjoyable! And I feel like I'm experiencing it in a completely different way

Audiobooks have made my commutes bearable but they have also introduced me to any books I would have otherwise not read. I am a student and I work two jobs so I have zero time in the day to sit down and read like I used to. Some of the audiobooks I enjoyed are the Six of Crows duology, Strange the Dreamer, An Ember in the Ashes (1, 2, 3), Illuminae Files, Harry Potter (an obvious one for me lol). Those are just off the top of my head. Wonderful video! 😊
@zach15295 жыл бұрын
I know this video isn't recent but I just wanted to say thank you for this video and for these recommendations! I really related to what you said about why you sometimes go for audiobooks. I've struggled with focusing while reading since I was a kid and I always have had to reread entire paragraphs because I had too much going on in my head. But reading with an audiobook narration really does help me to drown out everything else I can't stop thinking about and read so much faster. Also having some sentences strung together verbally can help sometimes with understanding what the author means grammatically if they have a very lush writing style. Anyways sorry for the long comment, but really, thanks Hannah! Would love to see more audiobook recs in the future! 😊

I've enjoyed audiobooks for quite a while now. I agree, it does count as reading, and being a single mom I usually find it hard to get time to sit and read; as much as I want to, there's always something that demands my attention, so audiobooks really come in handy. If you're a Gilmore Girls fan I strongly recommend listening to Talking as Fast as I can by Lauren Graham herself. It's a memoir and I thought it was so so funny, but I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I had read it on paper
