Project Hail Mary is literally the most majestic audio book I’ve ever listened to 😭 the narrator was straight up ACTING, I loved listening to his accents for the other people. Genuinely the best audiobook I’ve listened to

Sadie by Courtney Summers is amazing as an audio book. It has a podcast element and the protagonist stutters when she speaks to other people. It's fully voice casted and it sounds really convincing. The podcast sounds just like a true crime podcast and the audio design etc. makes it feel like a audio drama. It's fantastic! (mayor trigger warnings though)

I’m so glad someone else has voiced the opinion that audiobooks definitely need content warnings. Great list! There are several on your list that I have read but others that I’ve been interested in reading. Project Hail Mary might be my next pick. I loved Trevor Noah’s memoir of growing up in South Africa. He narrates it and grew up speaking the different dialects of the area. He incorporates that so well that it brings the story to life. Another audiobook that I picked up a couple of years ago is Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi. The story is bizarre Hansel and Gretel tale with a twist. What raised it for me is her reading of it. Another English accent and so smooth that she draws you in. Unfortunately she doesn’t read all of her books.

I recently listened to Remains of the Day narrated by Dominic West and it was fantastic. First person narration and memoirs read by the author are two of my favourite things to listen to. Samantha Irby reading her own essays is an amazing experience. I also really enjoy listening to classics on audio as I find them easier to get through that way and there’s usually a good choice of narrators because they’re in the public domain so you can find a recording that works for you (sometimes I go for an audio dramatisation instead of an unabridged reading, especially for really long classics 😅).

Non-fiction: Crying in H-Mart (Michelle Zauner)- The author reads the book. Given that she's also a musical artist (lead singer in Japanese Breakfast) there is something incredibly lyrical about her narration. And, given that it is a story of learning your culture and suffering through grief through the lens of eating/cooking Korean food, it's so powerful to listen to. Fiction: Beach Read (Emily Henry) - I know you're not into romance, but...hear me out. This book seems so much more "real" than most romances. Julia Whelan is a masterful narrator and does so well bringing the characters and their pain to life.

My favorite audiobook of all time is Lanny by Max Porter! It's a full cast, and because of how the book is written I can't imagine having read it without the audio (I read a physical copy alongside the audio). There are parts of the book that are snippets of conversation from random townspeople, and the chorus of their voices felt so essential.
