I started listening to audiobooks about 2 years ago because of you Hailey. Of how much you talk about it.The first one I listened to was Sadie and I was mesmerized. Incredible audiobook. Started little by little and my reading has improved from then until now and it's growing. In the evening when I come home tired from work, I can't physically read of how exhausted I am but I can totally listen to an audiobook while I play some mindless game. Right now I'm actually listening to an audiobook while doing friendship bracelets for Taylor Swift's concerts next month😊 So Hailey thank you SO much for introducing me to audiobooks and making it possible for me to read more than I was able to 🥰

I recently got into audiobooks and I’m obsessed. I’m one of those people who does not have the time or attention span to sit down and read a physical book so audiobooks are a perfect way for me to consume stories. If I really enjoy the audiobook, I’ll buy the physical book so I always have it in my collection.

I've been listening to audiobooks through Libby, Hoopla and Audible for the past year and a half, and I'm never going back. I always get distracted when I'm reading and it's way easier for me to listen to it on audio while I exercise, clean or cook. Most of the books I've read so far in 2024 are audiobooks

I love listening to a audiobook while also reading a physical book or one on my Kindle. I love taking my time with them and getting into the story.

I love this video, I would like to add that when you are not a native english speaker, audiobooks si a great way to challenge yourself to listen to complex texts in english with no subtitles, even though it might be challenging depending on the book

I've gotten more into audiobooks lately since I do a lot of driving for work currently. "None of this is True" by Lisa Jewell was a recent good one. And "Fairest" by Gail Carson Levine is one that I listened to long ago and has stuck with me because of the cast of narrators and the singing.

I got so sucked into Daisy Jones that halfway through, I was so convinced it was about a real band that I googled it haha The audiobook is so so good!

Audiobooks are the way to go for me for consuming fiction! Non-fiction however, I typically prefer to have the physical copy, but I also don't have space to store every book I've ever read so digital audiobooks and the library makes reading a lot possible for me. Also it is so nice to be able to multi-task. Not to mention the thought of having to dust all those books and shelves full of books that I have read once and either didn't love or don't plan on reading again is not fun!

I've read Daisy Jones and The Six multiple times, one of the times via audiobook and i agree. It definitely lends itself to that. I like reading it physically as well though.

I listen to audiobooks too cause I can't concentrate and stay focused with a "real book". I'll read like 2 paragraphs and then get sidetracked on my phone, a piece of paper on the table, ect. Love love audiobooks!

Girl, same! I love audiobooks, and saying "they don't count" is just a way for some people to try to feel superior, for some odd stupid reason! It's like saying that when a parent reads to a child, it doesn't count, or blind people can't really read, etc... It's a dumb argument that needs to just stop. Like you said, telling stories/listening to people tell stories was the Only way (the original way) people were able to consume stories for thousands of years! Anyway, loved the video and I agree about Daisy Jones being an amazing audiobook to listen too. Some of my other favorites that have incredible narrators are The Discovery of Witches series, The House in the Cerulean Sea I loved the narrator brings each character to life and makes you fall in love with all of them, especially Chauncey, the voice for him was so perfect! Any book from Neil Gaiman that he narrates himself is just magical. His voice is just so soothing, I'm obsessed! I'm sure I have loads more but I can't think of em atm... I will find a narrator I like and then look up other books they narrate and listen to them if they are something I'm interested in!

I don’t disagree out of a need to feel superior. Whilst I do honestly adore both audiobooks and physical/digital books, calling the act of listening/reading is changing the definition of both. Maybe society needs to do that but I do believe that both acts are just as important as each other. 😊

As an audiobook and printed word lover I do not believe that audiobooks are an invalid way to consume the written word but I also don’t consider it reading either. For me I listen to audiobooks and read physical/digital books. The end result is exactly the same in that I know the story and an discuss it with others who have consumed the media with an added bonus of being able to discuss the narrator(s) performance(s) if I have listened to the audiobook. Yes stories may have originally been passed on orally which is fantastic and something I am grateful for but I personally think the act of consuming a physical/digital book is reading and the act of consuming an audiobook is listening. At the end of the day though, it really doesn’t matter what way a person consumes books or the terms they use to describe the act, just keep reading/listening/consuming books in whatever way suits you best and keep those stories, be they fact or fiction alive.

My favourite audiobook narrators have to be R.C. Bray (The Martian and many others) Rosmund Pike (Wheel of Time, I prefer her over Michael Kramer and Kate Reading!?!?) and Sophie Aldred (Skyward series and some Doctor Who) I used to have a huge crush on Ms. Aldred when she played Ace in Doctor Who so I may be a little biased 😊

I would LOVE to use Spotify like that!! Except seeing that you can speed it up. But it doesn’t seem possible with my Spotify 😢 is it because I’m in Germany?? They don’t have the audio books you’re recommending and I can’t speed it up:(

What I’ve read I think you have to cancel your current plan and join again to have the new feature. But I am curious if it works outside of US/CAN. I have a family plan and I don’t want to cancel and redo everything for nothing 😄

I can’t listen to audiobooks unfortunately. For whatever reason, I zone out and remember nothing. I will occasionally borrow an audiobook from Libby of a book I’ve read a million times for background noise, but that’s about it. Audiobooks are valid tho! I’m not going to yuck anybodys yum!

Have you maybe tried following along with the physical book while you have the audiobook on? That’s the only way I use audiobooks otherwise that format doesn’t really work for me!

I agree that Audiobooks count as reading, it’s just unfortunate that my peanut sized 7 brain cell having brain can’t listen to an audiobook and do something else. I won’t absorb anything and be so confused 20 minutes later as to what is going on in the plot. Another good audiobook that I would recommend is The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie narrated by Steven Pacey. I loved that the narrator gave everybody a voice!

Huh... I guess spotify took out that weird clause in their t&c about how if they have the audiobook they "own" it and can do whatever they want with it (ie make changes). I remember hearing about that a while ago but idk if they took it out or not. But I guess they did because I genuinly don't think you'd partner with them if they were still doing that. That makes me happy, and that I can actually use the service now. ^u^

I didn’t like the diviners even on audiobook, then again I was kinda a snob when I read it so maybe I’m wrong. Also, Instead of reading the daydreams you should watch quiet on set, true stories.
