This deserves some kind of award for best series on KZbin!! I lucked out as my room happens to be 20ftx13ft so I was able to use your examples from all the past episodes for incredible results in my dedicated theater space! I have a 7.2 JTR system with dual JTR 18” subs in the front corners. For years a had a huge null, and turns out my seating was exactly 5 ft from the back wall. I corrected this by moving the row forward and installed and moved around my existing Acoustimac absorption and diffusion panels as Anthony had described and the end result was nothing short of spectacular! Bass is night and day better and so much more punchy. Sounds gigantic now and movie surround effects just swirl all around the room. Fast scary dynamics. I thought i would of had to hire out to get these results. Audyssey XT32 and app finally gave me great results too using your guide from a month or so back. Thanks a lot for all the help! I’m amazed. I’ve done this for years too but I learned so much from Anthony👍😎 Cheers.

Very nice presentation. But I want to add that in one of my rooms for the longest time, I just couldn't get rid of the boomy bass of my svs subwoofer. I tried everything! Calibrations, including REW, the crawl. Until I decided to move my front speakers around and it made a world of difference! So it's not always the subwoofer that is the culprit. It was my main fronts! Just wanted to add this in in case anyone is struggling like I was! Cheers ~

Yeah, I'd really love to see a full tutorial on REW from you guys. The one already on this channel doesn't go deep enough. I don't care if it's 4 hours long, I'll watch it! I just re-tuned my system today after installing all this new sound treatment, I didn't know my room was causing so many issues until I compared the before and after treatment results. I tune different then most, I've learned to focus more on 0 degree measurements for tuning vs 90 degree. I'd like to talk a little about that when you guys hopefully make a full REW tutorial. I'm solid with the frequency sweeps, it's all the other bells and whistles that I'd like to learn more about in REW. Cheers guys 🍻.
@TylerStout3 жыл бұрын
Wow just when I thought I had a pretty good understanding of everything I watch this and I still have a lot more to learn. I think my big takeaway was that I'm barely scratching the surface at what REW can do for me which is probably why I switched to MSO for optimization. There were so many parts where I felt Anthony could have dove in and talked for an hour but understandably he couldn't for time sake. Definitely putting another vote towards a more advanced REW training presentation as there's plenty that show the basics but they almost never focus on anything else besides the second tab in on the measurements. Definitely need to watch this one a couple times and really pause and dive in on parts.

@kez22523 жыл бұрын
Definitely appreciate all of the work here, and highly respect all of the knowledge you both have. That said, I do hope you put out a REW / minidsp tutorial as a supplement to this part 3, as this was very hard to follow and quite confusing. I've been heavily learning about bass management over the last few months and without some of that newfound knowledge, I would have been 100% lost and confused were I trying to apply any of the learnings from this episode (vs the 50% lost I was during the video). Delay adjustments where.... minidsp, sub, avr? Individual subs or as summed sub? Adjust in input or output of minidsp? Levels where...avr, sub gain, minidsp? A lot of intricacies that weren't covered. Phase versus delay adjustments, and where exactly to make them? Again, greatly appreciate the time and effort put in, and I now to the insane knowledge you each have. I also indersand it's a lot to cover in a relatively short video. However, if the goal is to educate the audience, then definitely need to reinforce with demonstrating the steps in REW and minidsp. Just wanted to provide candid feedback from a non expert fan of the channel who is trying to learn.

I'm in the same boat as you. Adjusting all of this stuff is like piloting a 747, maybe worse. I have watched so many videos on using REW and very few go step-by-step. The big issue is every room is different and all rooms have different equipment and various levels of quality of equipment. So, there is no one size fits all. Trial and error is how this whole deal works. Experience like Anthony's is invaluable. If he takes 6 hours, we will take 24 hours. I had a huge dip at my 80hz crossover (up to 28db down from 65hz to 110hz) after spending hours in REW time aligning and EQ'ing my dual Rythmik F18 subs. I had the distance set to 9' based on actual distance. I played around with the distance setting in my AVR (Anthem MRX 1120) and the null was completely gone by changing the distance to 3'. My bass is now flat (with a 9db curve) down to 16hz. Next time I re-run room correction, I'm going to try the Time Alignment feature in REW to see what it says. I am still tempted to buy two more F18s to have a little more headroom and to help gain back the losses from turning on the limiter, rumble filter, and 14hz tune. I have a 7500+ cubic foot open floor space that opens to a hallway and staircase. I haven't done compression sweeps, but I am curious how loud my subs can go without compression or distortion.

OK, this might sound like a dumb question. When making those frequency response graphs, or the data for them at least, does the data come from measuring pink noise or performing a frequency sweep? I'm confused on which of the two it is.
@TheBarbapapa12343 жыл бұрын
For setting up subwoofers you should use a frequency sweep from 0-200hz. You can set the time it takes for the sweep. I always set it at 10 seconds. So it takes 10 seconds to go from 0 to 200hz. That will result in accurate enough results most of the time. Good luck

@akyhne3 жыл бұрын
I don't quite get the delay of subs. If you delay all the subs the same amount, I can't see how this would affect anything. I know that Anthony a few times mentioned adding a delay to the back subs alone, but it wasn't clear to me, if this was always the case. That would make sense.
@TylerStout3 жыл бұрын
So generally speaking you want all your subs to hit the MLP at the same time so unless you're sitting exact same distance from them you'll need to delay certain ones so they do. Main reason he mentioned delaying the back subs alone was because generally you are sitting closer to them then the front ones. Home theater gurus does it by picking the farthest subwoofer and adding subwoofers one at a time and delaying till you get a good response or you could align front pair together then back pair together then combine both together and see how works together with different delays.
@Stevo198013 жыл бұрын
Gene, I noticed in Anthony reference room response curve that the bass tailed off after about 30hz, commercial theatres also do this from about 40hz and I have seen other high end designers do this. Is this his preference, as I Imagine the gear in his reference room is not limited?
