Hey Tim ! Thanx for the mention! Mofi watches A LOT of videos from the larger channels to small ones like me. They saw a video where I talked about being deaf in one ear so I couldn’t be an audiophile, but still love a good sounding recording. Someone very highly up took the time to reach out to me during the scandal. We chatted for about 30 minutes. It was interesting Great video as always Steve. 🎶☮️🎶

Hi Steve, been watching your channel lately and it's refreshing compared to most of the other audio/Hi-Fi KZbinr's it see. If you watch all the reviews, you will realise your statement isn’t quite correct. I actually think for the most part we get an honest and objective review; it’s often the case that the recommendation is that the original country of origin press is the best, maybe very closely followed by an AP etc. but overall, we have an objective review.

While I don’t have either the Classic or MoFi Brodge OverbTrpubled Water, I do have the 2 eye and the other, a bit later Columbia one. I got the later not that long after the album came out, and the former some years back. The 2 eye smokes the other. As such I am suspicious of Columbia’s 1970s pressings.

Hi chaps. I enjoyed the discussion. I am not an audiophile. All MOFI has proved is that Audiophile snobbery has created a market for over priced records, yet not one Audiophile noticed that what they were reviewing from MOFI as excellent were not audiophile copies, I.e. not one audiophile noticed the difference in what they were listening to. Come on chaps just enjoy the music. John 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Hey Steve! You sure bring some great people and fascinating conversations here 👍 If I may please just make one lowly and humble suggestion which I think would make our watching more enjoyable... Since you are the host and interviewer, you'll notice that the really good talk show hosts and others like that are very good at sitting back and allowing their guests to talk, which I think you do for the most part. But, I get the impression that maybe your eagerness to join in or instantly respond with an 'Oh yeah' or as the person is talking about an album, you'll almost jump in and ask 'you got that at so-n-so, right?' or maybe 'that was about $40, right? And I think to us as the audience, it might be more pleasant and relaxed if people didn't interrupt each other so much because then to me anyway it starts to make me uneasy and nervous with everyone jumping in and kind of unintentionally interrupting each other, I almost want to turn it off because it kind of starts to get on my nerves. BUT... I really *DO* want to watch so I kind of just try to bear with it 😁 But, I think it would be so nice and pleasant if especially you as the host and the primary guiding force in these interviews (and I KNOW it isn't easy!) just to maybe sit back a bit and let others finish their thoughts, especially when they are talking about an album or something, and maybe kind of hold back that impulse to say anything or fire questions at them while they are talking, you know what I mean? I hope you don't mind the suggestion because YOU are one of the main ones doing this which is great! But, it might be even more enjoyable and easier on us, the listeners, if it could come across a bit more smoothly. I know when there is a silence when someone appears to be done talking about something, that is different and kind of hard to know. Maybe instead of nervously jumping in with a kind of 'Rapid Fire' statement, just develop a smooth calm way to lead into whatever your next point is or calmly say something transitional and then turn the attention to one of the others, something like that. But, primarily when they are in the process of talking, maybe just not interjecting quite so many sounds or questions or even agreements, because it tends to break up the flow of the conversation, then everyone kind of stops at once. But, I think if you take the lead and kind of hone that skill, the others will be able to be more smooth in following your example 😊 I think that way you will almost certainly get more 'Likes' and 'Thumbs Up' because people will find it a much more enjoyable experience. NOT just because of the excellent people and content, but because of the smoother presentation will make it a lot more appealing to the listeners. Not to make comparisons, but perhaps observing Michael 45's style, although I KNOW it is at the other end of the scale compared to your enthusiasm. But, perhaps just incorporating a BIT more of that laid back style here and there to add to the overall smoothness of the presentation. Just my thoughts...

@@Darrin.Crawford HEY, HEY, HEY! Now, c'mon... Let's be nice 😊 Geez man, I'm trying to be as kind and diplomatic as possible here, but I honestly want Steve to succeed. What he does and how he is able to get all these great people together is *EXTREMELY* beneficial to all of us. See Steve... I KNOW I can be a bit irritating and I come across as maybe a tad critical sometimes, but *I'M TRY'N TO HELP YOU DO YOUR BEST MAN!* 😁👍 Just a bit of polish Bro, it is an art. *YOU* are the director here and how you lead the others can REALLY make your efforts here go from GOOD to GREAT! You just about have it my friend, just burnish the few rough edges, that's all... 😊 My primary 2 suggestions are: 1) Don't interrupt at all, not even with 'Uh huhs' or 'Yeahs' And, number 2) When it seems like one of your guys is done speaking, I know that is a bit of an awkward pause because you want to be sure they are done before you speak and you don't want 'Dead Air'. But, instead of just rushing in to fill the 'space', find smooth, calm ways to transition after a person seems like they are done. Like, a nice slow 'Very good' and a calm pause. Then proceed with your next question or your next person. Another time maybe something like a calm slow 'That was very interesting' (calm pause), etc... This will make your transitions and the overall conversation flow a lot better, without these (seemingly) nervous interruptions or jumping in immediately. We will all love it that much more!

I think it's high time we stop putting all analog mastering on a pedestal. It is, in fact, at this point an inferior process. The Plangent system and other digital processing that corrects ugly errors in analog recording without any loss of musical information are objectively superior and it's high time that fact is acknowledged and embraced. So long as the vinyl community continues to cite and get excited about all analog mastering we will be stuck with the inferior product that results. It's a myth that desperately needs to be buried.
@mazzysmusic
@mazzysmusic Жыл бұрын
I don’t think we are putting all analog on a pedestal at ln fact the two mofis I showed here are DSD transfers and sound amazing. The Dylan box I shows is digital. Both can be fantastic if the mastering is done well. Plangent has made live dead takes better. Plangent improved the Springsteen catalog. I may prefer a well mastered all analog issue. But it’s not a requirement. Just wish more would try using the tapes aaa if possible first.
@scottwheeler2679
@scottwheeler2679 Жыл бұрын
@@mazzysmusic 1. By we I mostly meant the collective of vinyl enthusiasts not just the three of you and not just this video. 2. You did put all analog mastering on a pedestal. The Fleetwood Mac repress was touted as all analog as if that was an inherent quality that made it better. You expressed a wish for an all analog cut of All Things Must Pass. You were critical of Abby Road Studios for not caring about all analog but gave them credit for doing the all analog mono Revolver as though that made it a better mastering. That sounds to me like an all analog is inherently better position/ putting it on a pedestal. And IMO contributes to the perpetuation of the urban myth that all analog mastering is inherently superior. I simply don't see any rational objective support for that position. I think there is an objective case that all analog mastering at this point is an inherently compromised approach and that hi res digital transfer/Plangent transfers are in all cases an objectively superior/state of the art path to making records. I do want to give you a big pat on the back for defending Melinda from the idiot spoiled brats at the Hoffman forums.
@Darrin.Crawford
@Darrin.Crawford Жыл бұрын
@@scottwheeler2679 I have seen this one or two times as well. Mazzy will praise a reissue and then wished or wishes for all analog. I"m thinking why? You just praised it. Yes that's definitely putting analog on a pedestal and even by his comment here he's doing it again but he doesn't realize it. Steve needs to realize that audiophiles do not always equate to analog only which is exactly what he promotes in all of his videos. Notice he never reviews ANY albums that are definitely audiophile quality unless it's a MoFi, AP or has been cut by his hero's, Gray, Grundman, Chad, McGee and/or Showell l just for the sake of his channel AND tries desperately tries to be on level with Fremer.? He's a total analog wannabe and trying to be an elitist and in the know-how of what sounds good. He never shows you his collection nor his own audio equipment and has to depend on his buddies at the Hi Fi centre to show off a system that he doesn't ...nor will ever own. I love a good analog mastered and cut record as well, as I do a digitally cut These folks are not listening. They are listening with their brains at the words digital and analog and not with their ears.

@@Darrin.Crawford I think it has become a force of habit borne from a time when it was a better way to master records. But digital transfers have long since progressed to the point of audible transparency and DSP allows for transparent fixes of unwanted analog artifacts. And really what I was trying to suggest was that we should all break this habit. It does not do any of us a service.
