After watching for about 2 years and a few months... bad gear has multiple meanings. There is the 80's term "thats one Bad motherboard" " it's so Bad its good" or "its so Bad your dad won't even watch it" personally I just love the amount of personality this content has. Its so cool that you dont bother showing your studio setup... we know by now you have an RE-201 space echo from the decade I born in etc. Its just good fun learning about stuff I didn't know or having a new perspective on gear I have had or knew someone that had. Personally love the bass station because even though its sound pallet is limited its array of features keep things interesting and positive and oh the one thing Moog wont squeeze into a synth thats always deep bass... a Sine wave

An absolute gem of a synth. Cant praise and recommend it enough, options are insanely huge, sound is fantastic and can be easily used for any possible genre / mood.. Since I have my for almost a decade, I can mention limits of its build quality and downsides. After years - knobs simply started to fall apart and disintegrate, pitch and mod wheels cannot be calibrated anymore and cleaning doesnt help, also the keys have went full yellow. I can personally live with that and you know what, if it stops working fully, I just get new one, because yeah it is freaking awesome.. Great vid again, all the best! :)

Every single gear is bad gear! For one there isn't a single piece of equipment that would tick everyone's baaaksses. Legendary gear are usually _really_ bad gear that were made legendary by their (usually unintended) characteristic quirks and limitations and the artists who creatively used these to create iconic sounds in what have become hit songs (or genres). Hello TB-303! Hi Juno-60! "Not so bad gear" are the real "baaaksss" tickers but are often labeled as generic, boring or so complicated that they require Mariana-trench-deep menu diving that would make the DX7 blush in shameful simplicity. This show is gold! Keep it up! :)

I'm honestly quite surprised this made it on here! my second strike on my bad gear bingo card. Great episode as always, I had no idea what angle you were going to come at this one from, considering this is so universally liked, but you had some valid points. I was really late to the party & only got one about a year ago, it always struck me as 'unremarkable' until I got one, I was pleasantly surprised by how much better it sounded than i expected. It can be maybe a bit too harsh & resonant sometimes & definitely not as wild as some of the other (more expensive) pure analogue synths around these days. I still think it deserves to be regarded as a classic, there isn't much you can get for the same money that does quite as much as this thing. PS, leave the virus alone!! 😛

I shuddered briefly when the pix of the Virus B and Drumstation popped up, then celebrated their non-appearance with a bottle of Olde Neckbearder's Vintage Mindrotte Ale. Survival! I live to noodle another day. I owned an original plastic Bass Station keyboard in an era when 303s were going for the GDP of Monaco. It squelchfarted its way through most of my 90s tracks with only an occasional random detuning meltdown. I eventually donated it to the skint synthnerd offspring of a family friend, who still misuses it in the time-approved fashion. I'm fond of the Novation sound and front panels, and currently provide a comfortable retirement home for a Drumstation, a Nova 2, an Ultranova, and a Supernova, so I have no need of the Bass Station Junior. Putting it up against a vintage analogue mono synth with a Dr Bob filter would not be a fair fight. I run across Bass Station Juniors on occasion in Drum n Bass recording cupboards, where they do the raspy wub bass business with no fuss, no mess. All bud, no dust. They're dirt cheap used here, so they're the logical option for skint noisemakers. The aftertouch and the AFX wibble are what keeps them useful. Add a fuzz/wah, and you're cooking with gas. ,Also, despite being made entirely of plastic, they can survive a direct hit from an asteroid without flinching.

Right?! I feel like it doesn’t get the love it deserves but that’s fine cuz that just makes it all the more ‘my secret weapon’ I have mine fully controlled by an octatrack (the 3 LFOs per track is f’ing heaven )

Bonus points for the Peter Gunn bass line. You had me with "They should have called it Lead Station".

A classic and rightfully so, immensely useful wether you have an arsenal of sought after synths or just a laptop, it always finds its place.

Absolutely great show of the Bass Station 2. Everything covered wonderfully in under 10 minutes. Keep up the great work brother 👍👍

Didn't know you kept the Mono Station! It'd be interesting to see a video where you talk about which pieces of gear you kept and why :)

Great idea! Thanks!!! In this case: nobody wants it;)

I love the mono station. The thing is genius at hashing out bass-lines. I think I use it even more than the AFX and the Medusa, and actually sounds good unlike circuit.

My introduction to Novation was the OG Circuit, and I quickly realized that Novation upgrades their devices and listens to the user community. Very smart, it's a win win.

Novation is probably the best synth manufacturer in terms of support among other things. You can expect them to support your machine with updates way longer than most.

Get the Bass Station 2 (or AFX Station, they’re the same thing) it’s a little more sturdier than it’s predecessor, as Florian can attest (the Bass Station OG’s knobs fell off)

Novation is my favorite synthesizer company by a long shot. They don't release a hundred synths a year and, never to be undervalued, the best customer service and warranty replacement. The Peak is nearly flawless in design and sound.

I have never seen a company release 100 synths a year, exaggerate much?
@GrootsieTheDog Жыл бұрын
@@DankePlace Maybe you don't understand the harmless and common lingual technique of using exaggeration to illustrate a point? It's not meant to be literal but rather figuratively - and 99.99% of the population would assume that. For example, "Man, that guy must be dumb as a rock".
@DankePlace Жыл бұрын
@@GrootsieTheDog and your 99.99% example was a gross exaggeration too, which is ironic.

I'm very much into the Bad Gear philosophy but "haters gonna hate", poor guys. Cheers to those who got the "...And justice for all" reference in the video, Bass Station 2 seems a nice instrument, I would consider it if it was keyboardless module

Oh, you got that one. Nice!!!

@@AudioPilz Yes, I'm a "metalhead", got deeper into electronic music because of lockdown boredom and got some synths and a drum machine 3 years ago but I still play them quite often

I have one beef in particular with the Ultranova - its mod and pitchwheels have that soft rubberised coating which a decade on has turned into a sticky mess
