@johan It will depend on getting the mic close to what you're recording, especially when you are outside, you can pick up the surrounding noise your ears don't usually pay attention to, inside that's the ambience of a room ( easily heard when people record a live performance and aren't close to the sound source like the speakers ). Then also playing with filtering the sample, changing the pitch, etc.

@@VincentVenoir For example, when sampling your guitar with it, and then resampling it with effects. Resampling is generally a big part of the Polyend's (and countless other machines') workflow, and the key to virtually limitless sounddesign without overloading the machine's capabilities. I can live with mono sampling on a machine that's mainly made for drums. Even then it's questionable, because again, resampling. On a general purpose device that's made and advertised for making full tracks, there's just no excuse in this day and age.

Cat: What is it? Rimmer: A sequencer that was popularized by software created for computer systems in the '80s, such as the Commodore 64 and Amiga 600. Traditionally, these programs had a number of key characteristics that distinguished them from other types of music arrangement tools; perhaps the most obvious being that the timeline would run vertically. Cat: What is it? Lister: Tracker software would often represent parameters such as note, instrument, and FX values through the use of hexadecimal characters, laid out in rows of individual "cells." Tracker software would often represent parameters such as note, instrument, and FX values through the use of hexadecimal characters, laid out in rows of individual "cells." This distinctive appearance is often described by those coming across it for the first time as looking something like a spreadsheet. Cat: What is it? Rimmer: One powerful features of trackers is the granular level of control made possible by their cellular layout. Changes to almost every element of a composition can be enacted on a per-step basis-and sometimes even further than that, right down to micro-step divisions . This depth of functionality came about long before Elektron introduced their popular "parameter lock" system, which you can find to this day in the Digitakt, Octatrack, and other instruments. Cat: What is it? Lister: A magic Gameboy Cat: Well why didn't you say???

Tracker users UNITE 🙌 Nice overview. This clarifies a lot about how the simplified UI works compared to it's bigger sibling. How you interface with a tracker really makes or breaks the workflow. The new button layout makes a lot of sense and seems fast to work on. A lot of the videos I have seen don't cover this. I have a lot of muscle memory with M8, Little piggy tracker, and LSDJ so using a PC/amiga-style tracker workflow was always a bit slow. I feel like this UI would be much easier to adapt to. I might have to swap my big Polyend tracker for the Mini 🤔 Also great tracks on this one. I really enjoyed this set of demos!

What’s the issue with PC trackers? Too many keys to deal with?
@my4trackmachine
@my4trackmachine 2 ай бұрын
@@ZombieLincoln666 No issue. I use those too. It’s more of a design approach. PE built it’s hardware to work like a traditional pc work flow. LSDJ style trackers modified the software workflow instead as they were meant for use on repurposed gaming devices. Some people liked the modifications and clicked with that workflow better due to familiarity and time spent. That paradigm led to hardware being built for that modified software like in the M8.

I think you should revisit the mini with a new video focusing on thr big firmware upgrade: it now has 8 new xtra channels that can be used for midi or its own new synth engines, which was a weakness you noted in the first version. It is still not immediate due to no knobs, but it adds a lot of power.

Incredible episode ! This tiny piece of gear sounds really good, although trackers still are "obscure magic" for me ! I find Roland menu diving more obvious 😂 I really liked the 2nd jam : it reminds me of the soundtrack of "Wipeout". The 3rd jam was a blast ; i had a good laugh watching it with my son 😅. Never thought Nerf blaster could be used that way ! Thanks a lot ❤

Trackers.. I don't get em.. Tried this Renoise for a short while when figuring out which daws I'll end up spending my lifeforce and soul on mastering that piece of software. It wasn't for me. But I do enjoy watching people performing magic on these things, quite a number of us old-school gabberpeople still use these things and watching a track scrolling by with a speed I can't remember surviving a night out without sensing something that might feel like the result of these 5 palm exploding heart technique, is very satisfying. Now I understand midi like any middle aged outboard synth addict I feel like I could work with a tracker today. Not with the polyend though, got too much stuff I never use already and still need a JP8000 to look pretty in the racks anyway ;-) But again, pretty amazing vid, mr Pilz!

I think the Tracker Mini might be getting some side eye because the M8 exists. Might just be me imagining that. I dunno. I enjoy trackers for certain kinds of genres, but others I find them tedious. There was a tracker that got dropped after a beta was released that fused tracker and piano roll together that was pretty nifty. That way if you gotta do some hot amen edits, you can dig into the tracker, but if you need to write a lovely jazz melody on top, the piano roll was there for it. Funny thing was no matter which sequencer you used, that same sequence could be viewed in the OTHER editor...so that crazy amen edit you did in the tracker now has piano roll data and automation lane data you can view. Pretty wild.

@@randommcranderson5155 Agree it's good to have competition in the market. I'm glad PE implemented their euclidean/random pattern generator on the OG Tracker and that the M8 followed. But the M8 is definitely available. If you preordered a M8 when the PE Tracker Mini was announced you'd have it in your hands, and there are pre-orders open now for September-October shipping. PE Mini preorders looking like September now as well.

People doesn't realise tracker is just like any other normal step sequencer with micro shift control over steps - It's just like Digitakt or Octatrack rotated 90 defrees clockwise in terms of playback direction and with added display to actually see notes.. You can even switch playback direction to classic left to right (at least on Tracker OG) and then it is exactly same thing like Digi /Octa, just with more visual and detail view on pattern Only real disadvantage of this Tracker when compared to Digitakt is you can use just 2 param locks per step where on Digi you can param lock any number of params per step.. other that that i would say Tracker OG has more advantages over Digitakt and Tracker Mini has even stereo samples which is huge thing - except of Mini, there are just 2 full blown stereo samplers in price range bellow 1000€ - Electribe2 and SP404mk2 (not counting MPC One cause that is basically DAW in hw box)

M8 tracker >>>> Tracker Mini in terms of interface, sound and features. It’s not even really a close comparison imo. Polyend can afford more marketing because they’re a much larger company but the m8 simply makes the mini look embarrassing by comparison. M8 keeps adding robust synthesis options via firmware as well as other features while polyend trackers stagnate.

@@davidhays2846 M8 tracker added a large text mode a while back in a firmware update. Though I don't think the text is hard to see in the base mode, some people prefer the large text mode. The drawbacks for the polyend mini tracker are too numerous to even list, the display is arguably better but I think the better thought out interface, mechanical keys and the key layout on the m8 negate any benefits the larger screen would give me. It's basically all muscle memory at this point and picking up the m8 was surprisingly super fast.

Never had a problem seeing the M8 font, but a few people did so Tim recently added "big font" mode. I wonder if there's much difference between the actual font sizes on PETM and M8.
