My fiance surprised me with front row tickets to (what would be) his last show in our town. He was walking back and forth across the stage, singing this song and looked right and me and I squirmed in my seat -- because what else can you do when greatness looks upon you? He saw me squirm and then sang to me for what felt like forever. It will forever be one of my greatest memories, and I don't think I will ever be able to listen to this song again without crying. Rest in peace, your artistry will live on in all of us forever!

I feel the same way. It's been 4 years and I don't believe I'll ever get over this one. I think about Chris everyday like I knew him and I tear up when I hear his songs. When no one in my life listened, he spoke to my soul and all the darkness and depression that goes with it.
@missophie Жыл бұрын
When something or someone speaks to your soul, they are forever a part of it. I wasn't at the show (I was meant to be there, couldn't find a ride) and his death shook me harder than some/a majority of my blood relatives' deaths. I think it's because it was so unexpected and abrupt. His life's work remains now and forever, so he's not lost entirely.

This man was my role model growing up. I did not relate to movie stars or famous athletes$$$. At his (Cornell's) peak during the grunge era as lead for Soundgarden, I took notice to his humble demeanor. Here was this dude that had model good looks, a ripping gospel voice that could hit extreme high/low octaves at will.....but, that seemed bothered by the fact that these same attributes defined him by the world that he never seemed quite comfortable with. His lyrics made clear that he struggled w/his own deep thoughts and emotions that he viewed did not fit into this male persona that haunted him from childhood (Doesn't Remind Me). In a weird way, I feel like I lost a brother...

I rarely leave comments anywhere in cyberspace, but I felt compelled to this time. The world was a better place with Chris Cornell in it. He sang with true emotions, and passion. I wish I had a little inkling of musical talent that he had. I am still in shock over his passing, and it pains me to know that he will not be around to make more great music. Even with the truth that he never knew me, and that I only knew of him through his work I felt a connection through his words and emotions. He was a normal guy with normal problems. He had happy days, and he had rough days like everybody else on this planet. Celebrity status aside, he just wanted to share his passion of music with all who would listen. We will miss you forever Chris.
@hangnout91887 жыл бұрын
Pat Brands I'm not one leave comments either, but you pretty much covered it. Singers and writers as a majority just put out meaningless shit. Few artist actually put their soul ,a meaning for the words their singing etc.. he truly did, and with heart emotion and soul. You felt what was going into your head. And the talent of each member is far better than the majority, and they equally played through their heart and souls. I only listen to the very best concerning me. Complex, perfection ,and meaning. Dream Theater Rush , Satriani, S.R.V.,Eric Johnson and the list that flows into those names

After three solid albums, I was shocked when they broke up, but Chris Cornell does have a history of reuniting with old band mates. I saw Chris Cornell's Songbook tour in 2011, & again in 2013. His 2013 blew me away. His voice was so much better than In 2011, and he played for 21/2 hrs. including a 4 song encore. Audioslave & Cornell rock!!!! Peace.

When I was a kid, I always thought "no one sings like you anymore" was an interesting line - from "Blackhole Sun" of course. That music video came out 2 weeks after Kurt Cobain died (not that I was old enough to remember). But somehow I always felt like that line was almost saying no one would ever sing like Kurt again. And that's true. There are a lot of yell-singers in rock but Kurt's voice was pretty special. With all that said, Chris's was special on a more technical level. I'm not a vocal expert but his range, belting technique, and overall intensity sound like what would happen if you ran Robert Plant's voice through a punk-rock-generator. In many ways Soundgarden was the Led Zeppelin of the grunge era. Their music was more virtuoso-esque than the other grunge bands and they had more blues and metal influence than a lot of others (save for Alice in Chains on the metal aspect). Soundgarden even covered "Whole Lotta Love" at various points after their reunion. But with Chris's vocals leading the charge, it gave them something extra. And here, with Audioslave (or without them I suppose), he strikes a real lyrical chord (even if he's only playing three literal chords throughout the whole song). A lot of lyrics are just generic enough to apply to many people; often times that's the point... and that's likely the case here. But I really can't underscore how well these lyrics capture my own life. I'm sure there are many others that feel this way. And there's no better voice to be hearing it from than Chris's. For all that's been said and written about Chris since he died, the toughest was hearing about how he was the grunge artist that "had it together" the most. He was the stable one that could handle the fame without going crazy. I don't know what ultimately led to his decision to hang himself, but if it WAS directly related to the difficulties of being an artist (which I don't know if it was), then it's one of the biggest shames of all in this situation. Now, years later, I look back on those words "no one sings like you anymore", I watch this video, and I just think to myself: "It was you. No one sings like YOU anymore. No one ever will. Your voice is literally too unique. It's as if the lyric was an eerily autobiographical prediction..." RIP Kurt, Layne, Scott, and Chris.

It's very humbling to find a song from a band I know as family in my mind, that I've not heard. But it comes when it should. Story is already wrote folks. The waves are going to break on you, maybe not today. But they will. Remember even the smallest ocean still gets big big waves. This one feels like a gigaton force coming down on me. Some things change us forever. Sadly who we were gets locked inside to die a slow and painful death. Damn the clairvoyant.
