"A poet is an unhappy being whose heart it torn by secret sufferings, but whose lips are so strangely formed that when the sighs and the cries escape them, they sound like beautiful music... and then people crowd about the poet and say to him: Sing for us soon again; that is as much as to say. May new sufferings torment your soul. " ~~ Søren Kierkegaard RIP Chris Cornell

It's incredible (and heartbreaking) when you finally realize that he wasn't writing dark, melancholic lyrics for lack of better things to say - we were reading a cryptic diary that spanned decades. The greatest voice of our generation, & a singer/songwriter for the ages. RIP CC

This is my favorite rendition of this song as well. I grew up devoted to Hip Hop, but always liked Soundgarden (Temple of the Dog/Audiodlave) a lot. Around 2021, I fell into Chris Cornell again and realized how fond of his music I actually am. I carry such a deep regret for never having seen him play live.

We were truly lucky to live at the same tme as him. He explained to me what I felt when I thought I could never understand. We've all been through so much. We've lost so much and when he left us, it was like I lost a father I never had.. a friend in the fight. I watched the last girl I'll ever be with, take her own life at about the same time he took his. I've never been the same. I miss the old days so much. I guess you just trudge on and find your peace of you can. I hope he found his... I'm still looking for mine.

The more Chris was stripped down the better he was because his talent was just so raw and unmistakeable. Just hits you right in the face. I found Soundgarden at age age 12 in 1991 and it took me a few more decades to realize he was a once in a lifetime musician. I was spoiled.

That verse hits me like a right hook, when I consider his chosen fate. Lyric is made much heavier with that knowledge in the back of my mind. A few others also hint at his state of mind , in that way. Burden in my hand, fell on black days, and outshined all reveal a glimpse of a soul in agony. He is obviously in constant, intense pain. He has soul pain, not body pain(like mine), but either kind will drive you mad in time. Phys.pain makes me very irritable, mean even. I want to hit something or someone, but I dont cuz then im causing pain.(F. That) Soul pain makes you cry out and hide, nothing to hit. I just wish he could've found a reason to stay, like his kids , or something. It's tragic, but it's really not his fault. May God have mercy on his spirit and on us all. Amen.

Wish that was all there was to it, friend, but it's sung as a question and the full lyrics of that section are actually pretty disturbing... Chris was crying out in pain and needed help even when this record came out. I wish someone would have listened more carefully then as it might have prevented what would later happen. RIP Chris. @Shawn Jerome No, that is not the case with Chris, Shawn. Perhaps you are thinking of Kurt Cobain? Toxicology reports for Chris revealed that several prescription drugs were in his system the night of his death. He had high levels of barbiturates (prescription sedatives) and four doses of lorazepam (also known as the anxiety medication Ativan) in his body at the time of his death. Traces of caffeine (an upper), pseudoephedrine (a decongestant), and naloxone (administered by EMTs to stop a possible overdose) were also revealed in the toxicology report. Despite evident signs of prescription drug abuse, the coroner officially determined that Chris Cornell’s prescription drug abuse did not directly cause his death. This was not an overdose, and experts say it is unlikely that the “weird combination” of uppers and downers in Cornell’s system would lead him to hang himself.

I went through all the same experimentation as a kid . Hooked up to computers in dark rooms getting frequencies and electric brain stimulation that mom was paid for. It Took a long time to forgive for that and even longer to endure and have stability after the trauma and manipulation and triggers it caused me in my life. I still battle the frequencies that trigger physical and emotional responses but I'm more aware and able to control my reactions today. Go bless you Chris I always loved your music . God that voice is so amazing, gives me chills and goosebumps all over. What a waste, I wish he would've got the help he needed. To this day I still think about Chris Cornell. Rest in peace my good friend.

I used to think in the dark! But I don't anymore. In his lyrics you can tell that he was in the dark. It's too late to say if he only would have waited! He left a lot of music for us I just hope no one gets the wrong idea. Never give up! RIP Chris❤❤❤

At 52 I started listening to Soundgarden in my 30's. Twenty or so years later there is no artist that brings out that deep emotion like Chris Cornell. He was truly a gifted soul, and left this earth way to soon and his legacy to be remembered by his many millions of fans. Rest in Peace Chris Cornell. Say Hello to Heaven!

It's cool how despite showing their age, all of Soundgard aged very well. Matt Cameron never changed at all; Ben Sheppard looked better than ever with a lil bit of added weight; Kim Thayil only greyed. And dear Chris showed some ups and downs fighting his demons, but he managed to look great all the time. Soundgarden is tied for in 1st place as my favorite band. You are immortal, Chris.

I like how the bass player just plays through the singing part where most of us mortals exist. Then, continues his life of super chill when Chris’s voice just explodes into a range that none of us lives in.

Eerie to listen to this song/the lyrics now after his death, damn he was an amazingly beautiful soul, singer & lyricist , I am so glad that I got to see him live, best show/performance I have ever been to, I really mean that and I've seen hundreds of bands. Heaven is a little better place now.

Soundgarden have been my whole adolescence, their grunge was absolutely brilliant, Cameron was a beast, Kim too...Their songwriting and singing was awesome. I like PJ and Nirvana too, but i prefer Soundgarden's rhythm, their use of 7/8 tempo. Rip Chris, you'll never be forgotten.

feel free to sing along Nothing seems to kill me no matter how hard I try Nothing is closing my eyes Nothing can beat me down for your pain or delight And nothing seems to break me No matter how hard I fall Nothing can break me at all Not one for giving up though not invincible I know I've givin' everything I need I'd give you everything I own I'd give in if it could at least be ours alone I've given everything I could To blow it to hell and gone Burrow down in and blow up the outside Blow up the outside Blow up the outside world Someone tried to tell me something Don't let the world bring you down? Nothing will do me in before I do myself So save it for your own and the ones you can help I've givin' everything I need I'd give you everything I own I'd give in if it could at least be ours alone I've given everything I could To blow it to hell and gone Burrow down in and blow up the outside Blow up the outside Blow up the outside world Want to make it understood Wanting though I never would Trying though I know it's wrong Blowing it to hell and gone Wishing though I never could

9-7-19 still listening. Not many people realize the weight he carried. He owed a debt he couldn't pay and no wife, child, friend, or money could pay that debt. He had to finish what he started, and he did it on his terms. There is no more a glorious ending than what he did. A modern day gladiator in my eyes. Much love from a lifelong fan.

MrAero Helicopter it has always been about suicide. he wrote alot of dark songs about some pretty dark depressing and disturbing issues. his music really helped me through some really difficult times in my life..........I only wish I, or anyone, could have helped him through his troubles, darkness, demons or whatever it was that troubled him............his music and lyrics were and still are therapy for me. RIP Chris Say Hello To Heaven my friend, I'll see ya on the other side perhaps.

Scott Owens It's strange when I look back at lyrics I've written for my songs of how deep they are yet I was 15 at the time and yet the music was quite happy yet punchy. The song was called "Maybe" lyrics are Crazy in an empty Feeling unaware living as it makes me dying I don't care Taken down beneath me Choices as it's blade Pressures that it could be Take me I'm afraid Chorus Maybe I'm to late Maybe I'm reaching out again Take me it's my own way Maybe I'm reaching out again and so on..I will upload the song one day. But I guess what I'm trying to say is I didn't really know why I was writing that stuff but it was somehow how it should be or could be.
