Well...I mean, "underrated" is a bit strong, I think. I think it was largely because it was his SECOND kick-ass, big name band. Soundgarden certainly wasn't underrated - people were just confused when Chris started singing under a different band name.

I saw Chris live 3 times with Soundgarden (for the reunion tour) and 2 times solo and also Chester live with LP maybe 2 or 3 month before his death, just one fucking year away from Cornell's one :-(. 2 of my favourite singers and Artists. 2 great voices that went away but are still there with us everyday. Chris Cornell is one of the most talented vocalists to grace us and its not even considered or rated right there amongst the other distinguished vocalists. Curt Cobain is brilliant but not the most iconic vocalists for a leader singer to posses. Chris Cornell does and he isnt even on the list.

AK-85 the loss of Chris is how I got saved... I went down the rabbit hole realizing it was likely satanic sacrifice and ran straight to Jesus asked him into my heart and my life truly changed not of my own doing and the lord has answered prayers and shown me things I could not think or make up on my own. Chris was awsome in all those bands and in solo. Both bands were 2 of my favourites bands of alltime. They had great names (and it's rare) with significant and simple meaning (thanks to Chris) and amazing songs that sounded like no one else. But put aside the 90's, Chris, Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, they deserve much more. After the events of May 18th 2017, I have been journeying through the Chris Cornell music tour. I am realizing how much great stuff he did outside of Soundgarden. I always dismissed AudioSlave somewhat because it wasn't Soundgarden or Rage Against the Machine. Now I can see they had some great songs that I missed out on truly appreciating. RIP Chris. Funny you say that. I gave up on AudioSlave until it was on Madden. I always thought they were inferior to Soundgarden and didn't give them much of a chance. Madden helped me see I was very wrong.

3 years later and it's still going on... Humbling and beautiful to see the impact that one great and powerfully positive person can have. I'm one of the many here who can say that my life was literally saved and changed by his music forever, and to this day. God rest his soul and much love and respect to you and all the other fans sharing our love for this great man ❤️

Zach cannot be called a singer, more like an interpreter of his lyrics, if you are actually considering Zach's voice as singing, you have very deaf ears... I like how Zach can scream on some songs but he really doesn't sing at all... RATM is a great band though...
