A big thing to consider, especially given their absolute lack of professionalism, is, if you help a copper detain someone and it’s an illegal detainment, and even worse, the detainee is hurt, you are in a world of trouble. This police car is parked on double red lines, they "Indicate that no stopping, waiting or parking is permitted by any vehicle at any time", police have an exemption during an emergency when they must display their blue flashing lights. This police car is not engaged in an emergency the officers are based in the nearby TFL building. This is illegal parking and an offence has been committed. The police officer doing all the talking (probably the driver) is wearing the Thin Blue Line badge, this has been banned on Met police uniforms, this officer is breaking uniform policy. It is legal to look and (and record) motor vehicles in a public street, it is legal to look inside them, police do it all the time while searching for contraband in plain view, and it legal for the public to see if the police have left sensitive documents in plain view (which is an offence). If the police are concerned about people stealing their cars why do they leave them with the engine running and the doors open, I have seen this occur and am aware it is a road traffic offence. The fat police officer who said he'd arrest people that looked inside cars in a car park, shouldn't really be a police officer, he's not up to the incredibly low standards. There was no reasonable suspicion of a crime, not explaining your presence outside a major railway station is not suspicion of a crime. There was no reasonable suspicion for detention and search. Threatening to charge you with obstruction for trying to talk your way out of an unlawful detention and search should really get this incompetent police officer sacked! If the other 2 police officers that showed up (one of whom was wearing the Thin Ble Line badge) were worth their salt they would have identified that this was an unlawful detention and search, but they were more interested in posing as tough aggressive cops in their military style uniforms.
