Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

Very impressive woman! And so glad they're doing something about Billie Holiday. The women of the blues and jazz era were incredible and had absolutely fascinating lives.

I just watched Lady day on HBO. Audra was absolutely Brilliant No question about it. I can't imagine how anyone could do an act like that day after day on stage. It would take years off my life. I felt like the piano player. How can I interrupt, when should I interrupt? Do I dare take away the bottle? I was a wreck just watching. A very important piece of work.

+JAKESTAR105 Yes to all of that. All he could do was help a little and play...playing the music always made her happy. Haunting and beautiful piece of work!

I saw her performance of Lady Day two days ago in London, and I was completely blown away. I have to admit I only knew one song of Billie Holiday and nothing about her life before the play. But it didn't matter because Audra McDonald just becomes Lady Day - you cannot eat drink or breathe because it is so mesmerising watching that magic happen. I was truly mindblown how somebody can act that well, and at the stage door it was "just" the amazing Audra McDonald again that smiled while signing programs and taking pictures as if nothing had happened - truly inspiring and hard for me to grasp - still (if it doesn't get better in a week i will see someone i promise)

It's great that Audra and Colbert celebrate the diversity of Broadway's current season, but they forgot to mention one show: the (just recently ended) Deaf West revival of "Spring Awakening," which featured a mix of hearing and Deaf actors performing in achingly beautiful American Sign Language -- as well as the first wheelchair-using actor in Broadway's history. This season has been fantastic for diversity not just of color but of people of different abilities as well!

I would imagine that a New York audience is a fairly progressive one compared to the U.S. as a whole. Perhaps that's why Broadway is more diverse in its actors, directors, themes, etc. than movies.

Fantastic interview, fantastic person. I can't wait for more shows/movies that tell the stories of the underrepresented. I think a lot of the world's problems would be ameliorated if we could all just understand where others are coming from a little more.

Steven Colbert used the word "notoriety," and he meant it to be complimentary, but it means, ": the condition of being famous or well-known especially for something bad : the state of being notorious." She looked suprised for a second, and then realized he meant well.
