I have been using the Audyssey pro kit for the past 10 years or so and have not looked back. I like the mic that comes with the kit. You also get a good quality boom stand with the kit. It’s expensive though. On the pro kit after you load the measurements you get a choice of 3 roll offs which are all tied in to the size of your room. I use dynamic volume on low. I use Dynamic eq and keep midrange compensation on.

Some things I'd change: - Disable all the PEQs you set in your SVS app unless you are using them eq room modes that you figured out with a calibration mic in REW or an RTA phone app. You want your sub to be playing as flat as possible during room correction. Then after you've redone room correction you can re-enable any PEQs you set that are part of a personal preference. - Set all your speakers to Small and all your speakers to 80 hz or higher as just because your large towers can play below 80 doesn't mean that they do it better than your sub. This will also free up your amplifiers some potentially making your towers play better. Also unless your towers are a couple feet from the wall or you have room treatments for boundary interference they will be playing louder than they actually are. - Dynamic EQ is mainly to help with your ability to hear bass at lower volumes as the human hearing of bass is less sensitive when compared to higher frequencies so the farther you are from 0db main volume the less bass you'll hear even if it's at the same db in volume as other content. Personal preference but probably don't want it on when listening to music. Dynamic Volume is something you don't ever want unless you're listening at low volume at night as it's going to boost quiet sounds like dialog and lower loud sounds like explosions in volume. - You don't need to run through the room correction (the chirps) to get multiple profiles, just click edit in main screen and then the left icon next to delete is copy. - Also according to Audioholics they did some research and found that room correction software isn't capable of correcting speakers past 500-700hz due to it not being able to know what is caused by the speaker and what is caused by the room so it's basically guessing. So in the filter frequency range screen set all your speakers to somewhere in the 500-700 range and see what sounds best. Look for their 2 video from a week ago that are around 37 minutes long.

After graph is wishful thinking. It's not what will happen in reality, because it's just an estimation and not a really accurate one. The app doesn't do a post calibration reading to show the results of Audyssey, which would be a great feature, but they probably have their reasons not to implement this. 😏

This is probably old news by now, but 95% of the time, the crossover should be set at 80 Hz. No reason to tax your mains and center channel with sub 80 Hz frequencies if the sub can easily handle it; especially if you're running multiple subs.
@Kpaceguy
@Kpaceguy 4 жыл бұрын
That is not true whatsoever.
@boydrijkvan6500

The subwoofer was invented especially to create these very low frequencies (like 80hz and lower). Logically it is the better choice in almost every case. It makes little sense to ask a main speaker to produce sub-bass frequencies when you have a sub.
@krmfpc
@krmfpc 3 жыл бұрын
@@boydrijkvan6500 Would be true indeed with small speakers. Most of the reasonable reaches 60Hz with no harm. Even not floor standers. Below that you will need serious towers or/and decent sub. 60-80Hz is not something i would consider as "very low". Sounds like author of the video knows the limitation of his setup, which seems to be something much better then one box cinema package ;) Based on that all he says makes sense. Cutting at 80 when you can easily go lower with your mains makes even less sense. BTW: Thx for the vid. Will try this app up ;)

@boydrijkvan6500
@boydrijkvan6500 3 жыл бұрын
@@krmfpc Thanks for your response. Please let me elaborate a little more, because I feel I did not explain clearly. My point was that you should not use your mains for sub-bass when you have proper subwoofer in your system. You can, but you shouldn't. Why use a sub instead of mains: -Running sub-bass frequencies through your mains when you have a capable subwoofer in you room will rob your system of power and headroom. The receiver will use most of it's power on the low frequencies, when this power could instead be used for the bass, mids & highs in your system. You can off course measure this yourself with a simple db meter. Just check how loud you can go with different sub crossovers before distorting. - Using a sub (or ideallly multi-sub setup) allows much more flexible placement options and bass management. This will get you a flatter bass response and better seat-to-seat consistency. You cannot easily move your mains speakers to a different location in the room just to get better bass. A subwoofer can do this! This principle applies to low-end or high-end systems alike. In almost every single case you can think of the subwoofer can produce more and better bass than a full-range speaker can. Why not use it I say!

@akyhne
@akyhne 3 жыл бұрын
@@JagadeeshPolepalli I've now figured this out. Some Denon and Marantz receivers used MultiEQ XT and some XT32. The difference is the filter points. XT uses 16 for satellites (every speaker, but the sub), and XT32 uses 512. I don't know if this is a true comparison, but it's basically like you have a 512 channel graphic equalizer on XT32 receivers, and only a 16 channel on a XT receiver. You need to spend at least $1000 on a newer receiver, to get XT32 support. Some say it's like day and night between the two. You can also fix some of the sound issues with sound diffusers and absorbers. These can be DIY for cheap money, and can have a huge impact on your sound and EQ measurements. Placed correctly they can raise dips, and lower peaks of your speaker measurements. Btw. look up "MultiEQ Comparison Chart" on Google image search.

Great walkthrough Kpaceguy! This video couldn't have come at a better time. I bought the app too and it has done WONDERS for my sound over the in-receiver calibration. I'm not exactly sure why but the sound from my brand new Reference Premiere 8000F towers and matching RP-504C center channel sounds magical!!! I have it paired with an SVS SB-2000 sub. It's only at 12 o clock gain and it is MORE than enough for me. So I have a question for you... I demoed and am planning to buy the Klipsch 500 SA height elevation speakers. The problem is that they don't produce the amount of bass & full sound that I want as compared to the SVS prime elevations when I A/B tested them. I get it, two different speaker designs produce different sound signatures... BUT, the Klipsch actually has 5 1/4" woofers...actually larger than the SVS elevations... And so I want more presence in my rear surrounds when I get the Klipsch. That's how I like my sound. I would like to adjust individual Bass and Treble for my rear speakers. Kinda like a parametric eq. What frequencies should I boost to get more bass and mid-range out of the Klipsch Elevations using the app? I'm not sure what the frequency numbers should be. Advice appreciated!
@Kpaceguy
@Kpaceguy 5 жыл бұрын
SVS sounds deeper because the cabinet is bigger. You can add more bass but turning up the lower frequencies like 35-80 but be careful not to turn it up too high. The lower the bass the more power goes to the speaker and in return the speaker can't play as loudly
@mystickid1
@mystickid1 5 жыл бұрын
@@Kpaceguy Thanks man. The thing is that the dimensions of the Klipsch elevations are larger in size than the SVS prime elevations. But it's good to know that I can increase the bass at those frequencies. By the way thanks for the pro tip on the dangers of raising it too high.
@Test-Pilot1194
@Test-Pilot1194 5 жыл бұрын
mystickid1 the klipsch speaker will sound more lively in the top end, and audio will be perceived to be less bass heavy, because of the horn tweeter in comparison to the svs dome tweeter. But you should still be able to boost the 50-70hz response with the app on the klipsch and it do just fine. Obviously the more power you send to klipsch will help too. 👍🏻

As we lower the volume our ear's ability to "hear" LFE is diminished, yet we are still able to hear the higher frequencies quite well. I thought that Dynamic EQ tries to "keep it the same" at all volume levels so that the LFE is still audible for us at the lower volumes? It seems to me that Dynamic EQ is something you'd want enabled if you sometimes listen at different volumes.

From Audyssey website q&A's: "Also, keep in mind that Audyssey sets the subwoofer level to reference. That means that it is the same as the other speakers as is required for film content. However, personal preference may be different and there is no problem with making a manual change to the level of the sub. Sometimes this preference is actually due to human perception. At lower listening volumes (master volume below 0) our perception of bass drops faster. For this reason we developed Audyssey Dynamic EQ. It restores the bass balance that is normally heard at reference listening volumes. I highly recommend using Dynamic EQ together with MultEQ."

I enjoy your videos but towards the end of this one you stated that you could change speakers without rerunning Audyssey if you had saved an alternate profile. While it is true that you COULD that statement is misleading and inaccurate since Audessey would be based on the in room response of the previous speakers setup which could be drastically different than the new setup. If you had a calibration file for both the old and new speakers as well as a true room acoustic signature map you could make it work but not many people have the resources to accomplish that. Just to have a single speaker with perfect frequency response and alignment in an open space is difficult let alone an environment with speakers at varied distances, with multiple reflective/absorbent surfaces, boundaries and obstacles.

@@Kpaceguy I’ve noticed that Pioneer Elites do so as well. I’ve calibrated both my Pioneer Elite & Marantz in the same room and the Pioneer sounded better. The trim level of the sub in my Pioneer was set to -7 and the Marantz set the sub to -4. The Marantz set the sub level 3db louder than the Pioneer, but still can’t compete with It. Would I gain sub performance on my Marantz by setting a sub target curve?

I mean you can always EQ it to sound like whatever you want. It may just be the RCA output voltage from marantz isn't as high some of the other competitors so you have to turn it up higher. With that being said, I think the sound quality of marantz is what I like best underneath the expensive stuff like Anthem and NAD

The curve on the right is not a result os a real mesurment, it's a target curve. There is no way thie linear result can exists in a real room. It might exists when placing a perfectly linear speaker in an anechoic chamber

As others have said it's just wishful thinking. I play with REW and Equalizer APO all the time with a PC just to Play around. I can get curves to match pretty good in a single spot in the room, after that good luck. Same with Audyssey, even if it works it'll be in if your lucky one tiny spot in the room.

If you think that the frequency response on the right is your actual post calibration response, then you have no clue how Audessey works... The red curve is just an estimation. Use REW and check the actual after response, and you'll be amazed to find out that it is even worst than the before response. If you want a near flat response you need a better room correction system like Dirac live and dual subwoofers... Auddesy sucks!

best is use both Audyssey and Dirac ; because Dirac can't send new correction curve to Denon ; so you have to use Audyssey Curve editor and do the changes to get a Flat response on Dirac
