All of the percussion heard here is made from sampling the OT inputs' internal noise with nothing plugged in. I recorded the AB and CD inputs without any sources plugged in while effecting them with very high Q settings on the filter and pushing Amp Volume to max, then applying an LFO to vary the Q setting. This was recorded to a flex track, then I sliced it and normalized the resulting hiss. I selected extremely small sections of those loops to use as "click/cut" drum sounds. The no-input noise sampling technique is described here on the "lines" forum by user trytyke; all credit and inspiration is owed to their creative approach and ideas: llllllll.co/t/...
The "tonal" pad sound is a sampled celeste with extreme bitrate reduction. Crossfader is controlling a re-sampled version of it, sliding it up an octave and slightly opening the filter.

Very brave experiment to use the Octatrack. Many mixers have already "imploded" with this method.

Haha, yeah I’ve seen some horror stories with mixers. This one felt pretty controlled in comparison.

Saw your Substack. Loved your example. Tried it out the best way I could which now that I’m watching again I am seeing that it seems you created the source material by sampling itself and then crafted this. What I did was set a flex on track 1 to record the internal source. Messed with the q and width chopped into 64 pieces and proceeded to play the slices while it resampled onto a track with random trigs with some using probability. I set the envelope to a very short hold and release and then added reverb and a neighbor with delay. Then I started picking drum sounds and sequencing the rest of the tracks. A lot of fun. Next time I’m going to follow your workflow

Awesome, sounds like fun! You’re correct, this was a very “simplified” version of the exercise where I just sampled small portions of the feedback loops I started separately. There is a lot to explore here.

I think your method makes the most sense for maximum creativity. The only reason I didn’t go there was just that I wanted to try it out so bad that I assumed it was all on one giant feedback loop

This is inspirational, do you have a breakdown of how this method all works?

Thanks so much! I’m working on writing up a breakdown for my substack page linked above. Hope to share it soon.

I keep telling myself, over and over, "Just because Andrew has an Octatrack doesn't mean I have to rush out and get one; just because Andrew has an Octatrack doesn't mean I have to rush out and get one" & etc. & etc. And then I see/hear a video/demo like this, and I'm like: No, sensible voice in my head, you're wrong: I must have an Octactrack. LOL (Long winded way of saying, thanks as usual for all the great, inspiring content). Cheers
