Hi, hello and what a list! I'm going to try to read less fluff this month and more "real" books. I finished the Adventures of Tom Sawyer earlier this week, and aside from the old-timey language and phrases, it was quite the adventure! Really makes you wish for the before times again even though those before times were like 100 years ago lol Right now I'm on a sci-fi horror book now called Dead Silence by SA Barnes and ended up reading like 23% of it last night before falling asleep so you could say I'm enjoying it so far! After that I'm gonna jump into the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and hopefully by then my library holds will be available. I'm hoping that James will come up soon so I can go right to that after Huck Finn but we'll see, the library is showing a 6 week wait time ugh! Oh and I'm gonna buy a book! I got some credits from Amazon so I'm gonna pick up the new sci-fi by James SA Corey (they wrote The Expanse series) called The Mercy of Gods. It's already showing a 5 star rating on Amazon and a 4.25 on Goodreads so it must be pretty good. Take care and have a good one!

Hi, hello~ My pile is always bigger than I have time for, but go big or go home, right? I need to read Tom Sawyer. It was read to me in elementary school. My teacher was amazing. She di different voices. Not being an auditory learner, I rarely paid attention to her reading to the class. But a few books stuck with me. I've read Huck Finn and the adventure in that is crazy too. And I know what you mean about the old timey language, but I like how thought provoking Huck Finn is too. If people can read it without getting triggered, because that one word makes me cringe, but how bold he is to help his friend. I wonder what Huck would have grown into. Tom makes a visit in the book. Hooray~ for cracking and buying a book. I hope you thoroughly enjoy it. Buying new books is always a gamble and with the high prices now... I hesitate to buy fiction. I have cold feet, so to speak. Six weeks doesn't sound too long for a popular book. But I understand the struggle to find filler books. LOL You might need two or three books until your hold becomes available. Did I say "real" books? cringe. I hope not. Sometimes palette cleansers are needed. I'm working on a video on challenging reading, since that seems to be really popular right now, but I'm not mentioning "read these 10 challenging books"....I'm going to give more information. Is there an old Sci-fi book called Dead Silence? My dad used to read that genre all the time. I never got into it. I borrowed my parent's horror books. I know, not me at all. I was in middle school/high school. I had to read and it was what was available. I looked up the SA Barnes book and that definitely is not the same book. I hope you find it very good. Happy reading~

I need to read the Lafayette book. I have a smaller book about Churchill that I need to get to.

I read the autobiography My Early Years, which I found interesting. I liked his sense of humour. I hope your book on Churchill is good too.

Hello. I have The Johnstown Flood out. I need to start it in the morning. I will try. Problem is school starts soon and I am trying to wrap up a few books … and I have a couple of buddy reads starting soon. Ahhh. Not enough time. Thanks for the video Erion.

Hi Bill~ I would say, even if you don't get it read this month, slide it into the tbr. It's a fascinating book. I have an intro video scheduled for tomorrow and Prometheus looked up some details for me that I'll be able to share in my next video on it. I totally understand the book lineup and managing time. Happy reading and I hope you have a blessed and successful school year.

@@BookZealots Hey Erion! No worries, The Johnstown Flood is on my reading table. I haven't worried too much because I have read it in the past ... it's been awhile, but I have read it. Hopefully this afternoon I can get going on it. I remember really liking the book. I even gave it to my daughter when she was in middle school to use as part of her History Day project over Clara Barton and the Red Cross. The Red Cross came in to help with disaster relief and this book gave her a great look into what they had to deal with. Pretty devastating, and even worse, totally preventable!!

@@billruttenberg Oh goodness, if you've already read it, there's no need to re-read it. And yes! Totally preventable. I just recently learned there was a woman who started a hospital during the civil war and had a lower death rate than doctors with years of medical training. She was also Jewish and didn't accept a salary. She was also inducted as a captain to keep the hospital running due to backlash from the doctors. So ridiculous. But everyone knows about Clara Barton and no one talks about Sally Tompkins. Did you daughter get a good grade on the project? And better yet, did she enjoy learning while doing the project? =) How is she doing? Is she enjoying college?
@billruttenberg
@billruttenberg Ай бұрын
@@BookZealots Yes, she did get a good grade on the project. It made it to the state competition for National History Day and got very high marks ... some of the best I have ever had a student receive at the state competition! Very proud of her. I will have to look up Sally Tompkins. I hadn't heard of her. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hooray~ There are a lot of books like that. I personally didn't think I wanted to read about a flood. But McCullough proved me wrong. LOL You read so many books I'm surprised you're able to squeeze in another book, but I'm happy you're joining in.

I’m still on the lookout for the Lafayette book. I have it downloaded on Libby. I am still looking for Andrew Roberts Napoleon and now the Churchill book too. I have several on Churchill but not that one.

I've only read one other book on Churchill and it was My Early Years (autobiography). According to Andrew Roberts Churchill changed a few details or maybe didn't remember them exactly. Thriftbooks and Betterworldbooks have a copy of Napoleon but WOW! Their price is really high. Does your library have a copy of The Johnstown Flood? My library actually has a copy and they rarely have the books I want to read. Hopefully you can read it before the month is over.

I'm only 1:47 into your video, and I've already put "Power, Faith, and Fantasy" and a ton of Harlow Giles Unger's books on my tbr... 7:10 What is the series that you're not supposed to start this year? 😄

Hooray! Oh wait, you're supposed to be on a buying slow down. Oops. Sorry about that. I need to finish the Left Behind Series but there are two new series that each of the authors wrote separately. (I did start one) LOL

@@BookZealots It's okay! I practiced self-control and put books on my Amazon wishlist and/or on a Libby favorites list instead of purchasing them. I keep an eye on when Amazon has dramatic price drops and pick up the books then. I was able to get an 1075-page Kindle book on John Quincy Adams for $2.99 because of an Amazon price drop. As much as I'd love to have the physical book, I can't beat that price. Thankfully, most of Harlow Giles Unger's books seem to be available on Libby, so I'll be able to read them for free. I prefer a physical book, but being able to read it on Kindle is better than not being able to read the book at all. I've heard of the Left Behind Series. I want to say that I read one as a teenager, but that was so long ago that I can't remember. I wonder if you'll be able to notice the difference in styles between when the authors write together vs when they write separately...
@BookZealots

@@tahlia__nerds_out That is wonderful you were able to find ebooks at discounted prices and Unger on Libby! Yay! I wondered who had more control over each Left Behind Book, because some were just absolutely awful and others were better. One of the authors has another co-writer in the new series and it's better. I think it's that one author that doesn't write fiction well, but I've never read his nonfiction to compare. Once I start the other series I think it will validate which author was better. =) I have an inkling.
