The band has been around since early 2000’s. This singer came in on their 2nd full length and hasn’t had a single vocal issue. He screams proper from the gut and not his chords. That’s how you sustain being able to scream without blowing out your voice. His range is amazing too.

ABR sold a shirt that says "Angry Music for Happy People" and I can't think of a better way to describe it. I'd recommend Rescue and Restore as well as Found in Far Away Places as the peak of *this* sound from Messengers. They play with complete genre shifts (plopping some surf rock into Identity) mid-song and you can tell the band is just having a blast on every track.
@PrymalChaos2 жыл бұрын
Awesome! That's exactly the kind of thing that tickles my noodle! Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take a look. Also everyone I ever met that played in a Metalcore or hardcore band were usually the most chilled out dudes. I just assumed that they got all the rage out on stage. 😆

They are amazing in live as well. They are really nice, down-to-earth guys. I live in Hungary, it's small country, but they are visiting us every year and giving unforgettable shows.

This video shows how much live energy they have. I love how the singer interacts with the mic cable! Reminds me of Roger Daltry from The Who. I will have to check them out! I may start doing reaction videos to live performances on KZbin, I'll see if I can figure out how to make it work with my format. I like my first impression to be a real surprise, so I'd prefer to react to the studio version of a song first. If I then move on to the live version, I've already heard the song. But I guess there's probably still a lot that I could react to regarding a bands live stage antics and how the band holds up without the benefit of a recording studio. What would be great would be if a live performance ended up being heaps better than the original track. An example would be Ghost Love Score by Nightwish, when it was performed by Floor Jansen. That live performance on KZbin is insane.
@cika0122 жыл бұрын
@@PrymalChaos ABR did a show at their hometown like 10+ years ago, and they released it on DVD and also as an album. It is called "Home". If you want to react to their live performance maybe you cant start there. An example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4i3o36ll85jsMk Ghost Live Score was my my favorite song from Nightwish. I stopped listening to them a while ago, I'll check out the Floor Jansen version you mentioned. Thanks!

Yo, from SouthCent PA. I ran into JB Brubaker (lead guitar) at a Sheetz outside Marietta, PA about 6-7 years ago. It was February and about 5:30 AM, so it was cold and dark. He was wearing flip flops. Absolutely confirmed.

To a lot of people ABR is considered the Kings of Metalcore. They have consistently put out quality albums with every release which I find most impressive. Seeing them live is an incredible experience as well you can tell how passionate they are with their music. Jake (lead singer) has become even better over time and I feel he is underrated as a vocalist in this genre. They have inserted elements of clean vocals in a couple of their songs recently but Jake is still mostly screaming which is incredible for how long he has been doing it. Matt (drummer) is regarded as one of the best drummers in the metal scene and that is what usually gets noticed first in their music. Check out The Eleventh Hour Live of Matt drumming. JB is their lead guitarist and Brent plays rhythm. Finally Dustin is their bassist but is extremely versatile and talented. He does the very high back up screams in a lot of their songs and also writes a lot of their music with JB. He will even swap to guitar live for some of their songs. As I've mentioned ABR puts out amazing releases everytime. Each album will have their differences but they always stay true to their sound. Constellations (2009) is my favorite album but you can't go wrong exploring their entire discography. So here is a mix from everything. Meddler, Martyr, Paramount, King of Sorrow, Invisible Enemy (Grammy nominated), Identity (also Grammy nominated), Bloodletter (heaviest song), Empire, Ghost, and Provision.

See, this is what I love about this scene. I knew if I put it out there, people would offer assistance in pointing me in the right direction. I knew August Burns Red was popular but I had no idea about Grammys etc. I certainly noticed as I was watching the clip that their live energy would be amazing. One thing I have to work on is getting all of my ideas out during the reaction. I often watch them back and think, man I should have pointed that out, or of I wish I had noticed that. I'll also work on somehow keeping the time under 15 minutes. I thing 20 is a big ask. Maybe I'll edit some of my dialogue here and there. Never the song itself. Thanks for taking the time to help me out mate! It means so much than you probably realise, especially because this is early stages of the channel.

@@PrymalChaos This scene is very welcoming especially at shows. Anytime I can help someone get introduced to ABR I'm stoked to do so they are really THAT good. I think as you do more of these you will find your own rhythm to your reactions and how long you want them. With any ABR song its hard to really comprehend everything with the first listen. There are so many elements with each song that it takes a couple of listens to really soak in everything. Can't wait to see more reactions from you with other songs 🤘

@@Deltoxity yeah I am really finding that multiple listens are required. For the channel at least I'm gonna stick to honest reactions, but in my own time I'm Gonna dig a lot deeper. I may start doing longer term reviews later on when I revisit reviewed songs with a newer perspective. We'll see.

Lead vocalist (Jake) only screams. He’s been doing it for 20+ years. His vocals have gotten deeper closer to Winston from Parkway, but still on the mid-range. Good technique will preserve your vocals for a long time (been able to scream like this for 25+ years but I am not in a professional band and not doing it nightly, but proper technique will preserve your vocals)
