Hi Donny! I used hugelkultur in my 8' x 8' raised bed and it's working GREAT! It also saves a ton of $$ for those high beds, by using chunks of wood, branches, leaves, and grass clippings in the bottom and only adding your soil to the top 12" to 18" or so. If the bottoms are open and you plan to start over, I'd recommend laying down 1/2" hardware cloth to set them on as I have had the occasional critter burrow under the edges of my bed, climb up the wooden underlayer, and get in to my crops!! I'm using hardware cloth around the outside now, to deter the chipmunks, squirrels, and rabbits...and I have a 3' section above the beds of that same hardware cloth, to keep birds and deer from getting to it. Love watching your videos! Keep them coming!!

Thanks so much for your great advice and positivity!! This is actually EXACTLY what I did with those beds!! Logs on the bottom, then woodchips, and then compost on top. Just wish i turned the compost into a blend instead of straight compost haha!!

just a thought, the metal raised beds, are they getting to hot and the plants to close to the edge? like when you touch your car that has been setting in the sun all day.

@@DonnyGreens Well I was 2 weeks into going to the farmers market and I had a 3 ton block fall on my feet at work, crushed my feet and broke my ankles, so Im stuck home for a while. I fully intend on having something up and running by the time Im supposed to return to work, my goal is to not have to return to work and just do microgreens and sprouts. Just grateful I have my feet still and it wasnt worse. Its the perfect opportunity to do what I really want to do though.

Hey Donny, looks like you need to put some worm towers in those garden beds! A little vermiculture can go a long way to restoring/creating a good micro biome for you garden. Getting started asap could give them enough time to get established before your spring plantings. Glad to see you back.
@DonnyGreens2 жыл бұрын
Great idea Joe, i TOTALLY want to start getting worms going. 🪱 not sure about this season though haha but maybe

Beautiful piece of property. I volunteered at an urban farm in Atlanta and one project was removing a lot of elderberry plants because they just take over... And that basement looks like good place for mushrooms

Loved the tour Donny!! I’ve heard that if you hang a bunch of old CDs from stings the birds don’t really like the flashes of light that get reflected from them. They aren’t into orchard discos lol keep up the hard work and you will be a huge success. I know it.

Fog and ozone the basement and keep humidity under 55%. Vapor barriers seem like overkill
@DonnyGreens2 жыл бұрын
Nice, thanks so much for this advice. Im thinking the barrier is overkill as well. Fogging and ozoning the basement is a great idea to reset/sanitize. Is that safe if its underneath the living space? Could it seep through the floor? Is that ok?
@dwaaziwaazi2 жыл бұрын
@@DonnyGreens ozone to rid of organic mold, must and odors. This is not meant for use while growing. Don’t ozone around people, plants and pets.. Run for an hour and circulate with an air mover. Return after 3-4 hrs and open doors..
