I've had this lock since its release, almost 2 years ago, and it has been a great device - my first smart lock. I've had to recalibrate it twice in that time, which is like a 4-step process that takes about 30seconds to go through. And once it didn't warn me about low battery, which wasn't a problem since I still carry my key anyway. If your WiFi router/access point is set to auto-change channel, it will cause the lock to reset its WiFi connection from time to time. It's something that wouldn't interfere with door unlocking if you're near, since it also uses Bluetooth, and it almost always reconnects to WiFi quickly.

Hi Lon. great job, as usual. I couldn't help but notice that your back door, like mine, has glass near the deadbolt. That is the exact reason for having keyed deadbolt lock access on both sides of the lock. Otherwise, someone could smash the pane near the handle, reach thru, unlock and open the door. I realize that you are working with what you have to test out the product, but it seems worth noting.

i have the same concern, is there smart deadbolts can prevent the intruder to flip open the lock from outside? thanks

An internet connected deadbolt? What can possibly go wrong?
@logikgr2 жыл бұрын
Pretty much 99.9% of what can happen to an ole analog deadbolt. No more hiding keys in funny looking rocks, under planters or whatever. Can it be hacked? Of course! But it's probably much, much easier for a burglar to bump/pick your lock, they can also just break your window.

@@logikgr smart thermostats blocked people from cooling their homes in Cali... Is it really a stretch to think a smart lock could quarantine you at home in the case of some global pandemic? nah, thats crazy talk.

Do you know of a similar product that has a code or fingerprint ? I need a double deadbolt and would like one side to be smart.

You mentioned that for safety purposes you can’t unlock by I voice. When you ask the SwitchBot lock to unlock with voice (Amazon Echo) it asks for a code.

How did you set up this lock with Alexa? I keep trying to connect it, but it won't allow me to do so. It comes up with the August home login page, but after I type in my credentials for August, it tells me it's the wrong user/pass. This happens even after changing my password. I can log into the app but not their web server. Just wondering how you got around that?

Hi Lon, I'd like to give my neighbor an entry code that will only work when we're away. (We currently have a Danalock, and he came in one time when my wife was at home. It was an uncomfortable moment, and after that she made me remove his code entirely so that wouldn't happen again.) Is a rule like this offered by August, did you notice? That would solve this problem very neatly.

at 7:32 you can see it says temporary as an option. So that would mean you should be able to set an end date to them being allowed to get in and out.

Maybe it looks better in person but that trim piece looked like a hole. Maybe also because your door is white.

It comes with a cover to mask that hole, he didn’t install it right.

This works with HomeKit like any other device that works on HomeKit if you have an tv as hub or iPad hub; that’s how all HomeKit devices work.

I acknowledge your concern, but this lock is far from a nightmare. It's very convenient and just about as secure as an old fashioned door lock. Since you're just changing the inside unlocking mechanism, your deadbolt and cylinder security remain unchanged.
