BJ, I am a fan. I am a PGA Class A Member and I teach in Florida. This is by far the most clear information available on the internet that covers this subject. Many have tried to explain it, but this is the cream of the crop. Cheers

I have been using your system now for a couple of weeks, especially the short irons, great improvement. Should I be expanding the skill to other clubs?

Yes, absolutely

Great video! Was this made prior to you advocating a more pivot based/Hogan like swing or would this also work for those using your other videos?

when i get it right i get more of a click sound when i hit the ball and not just a thud when i hit the ball first.
@steveperry13443 жыл бұрын
i meant to say a thud when i hit the ground first.

Thanks mr hathaway for all your pedagogic video. This one has been quite a chalenge as i have a lot of wrist action in my swing!!! It tooks me one month to manage this drill and this will give me a good basis for my chips and pitch shots. I still have trouble with bigger irons like 7th and also bigger backswing.

Great video here, no short cuts, hard work and practice is what it takes.

Add a little more backswing (not much higher than lead arm parallel) and you have my full swing...

This maybe the best one yet. The "phases" help get you ready to hit balls correctly. I'm officially a subscriber now. At first it felt like I was going to slice across the ball. Nope... Great stuff, and thanks for all the help.

Love this and the Hogan one. Very tough to do if you swung with wrist and arms your entire life. Have never been able to hit ball then ground. Really feels like you can't possible generate any speed or power this way. Will have to persist.

dear mr. hathaway, your video really helped me, it finally tied together the arm swing and body turn. went out and hit the ball very solid. thnx so much, steve

Great vid, this along with a vid on hitting through the ball with my right side (by Dan Whittaker) is improving my strikes: solid contact, proper divot, improved distance, ball flight and direction...Anyone out there let me know your thoughts. Thanks Augusta Golf.

You Can,t do anything else but improve if you have the patience to perform this drill.I,m afraid the typical H/cap golfer on the range is too eager to hit ball after ball and maybe this is the main reason they don,t improve,they have to discipline themselves if they want to improve and think of long term rather than short term,in other words gradual improvement.S/J.senior golfer.

This is a fantastic and effective ball striking drill. Your slow methodical patient teaching method is very efficient. I love the method and better yet the result. Thank you for your work.

This actually really helped me make good contact with my irons. I can finally put some power in my swing without being afraid it won't go straight. Thanks!

The club face is released, just not the shaft angle.

In your drill without the ball, it appears you hit the ground after the line, not on the line. Then when you hit the ball, it sounds chunky to me, not crisp as I'm sure is the objective.

Excruciating but necessary (unless, like me, you LOVE the sound of solid contact). You've GOT to train yourself (or, more precisely, your "Inner Golfer") to recognize how different parts of the swing are supposed to feel. In this case, that IG has to get used to the fact that the handle leading the clubhead through impact is the PROPER way to swing. Another example is training the IG to recognize that the most effective speed of hip rotation is way slower (or feels way slower) than you think it is. Drills are tough but if you do them you will learn that you CAN change your behavior. The only question I have in this video is that when you're doing the drill on the ground (ball or not) it's kind of unclear as to when and how the hinge occurs. It seems that you hinge partly by using a "forward press" and then hinge a bit more as you rotate into the backswing.

I came back to golf a few months ago after years of being a hack and a 15 year lay off, and this vid is the single best thing I've seen to get me going again. It has helped my tremendously so far and as recently as yesterday, I was having a hard time with my 7i, took a step back and started doing this drill again. Within about 15 minutes, was hitting the ball solidly again. Amazing! And thank you!

Seems like he starts out with introducing the concept of shaft lean, and then I notice he starts to introduce shaft lag. My observations of most swings is that shaft lag gets converted into shaft lean right before impact. I guess people who grip the club entirely in their fingers and not running down their palm, might be able to convert most of their shaft lag into shaft lean, but still retaining some shaft lag at impact. I am guessing that people who are bent over at the waist more at address, like Fuzzy Zoeler, might grip the club more in their fingers. And I am guessing people who stand more upright at address like Bubba Watson, grip the club more in their palm. I am guessing that waist bent amount probably influences how much or how little you grip the club in your fingers. Luke

@stevenpressas57919 жыл бұрын
It appears no release of the club during the drills then the full swing there is a release - your thoughts? Thanks Steven
@Augustagolfinstruction9 жыл бұрын
Steven Pressas If you are referring release as club face squaring up notice how the wrists keep the face square throughout so that the face matches up with the body rotation.
@hallgd496 жыл бұрын
Since your right arm is not bent at address, but bent at impact, how are you able to reach the ball at the moment of truth?
