Fun Fact, August: this is a basic retread of another Dhar Mann video titled "Overprotective Bro Spies on Sister." The brother in that video becomes creepily upset at the idea of one of his friends might be dating his sister, so he snoops through her stuff and pays one of his other friends to spy on her. It also turns out that this is all a setup for a surprise birthday party, and the brother claims to be willing to trust his sister more. But then she reveals she's actually dating the friend the brother paid to spy on her and not the one he was suspecting the whole video, and he instantly gets upset again and starts chasing him while everyone laughs like this is just a harmless quirk instead of gross and incest-y. What makes that video arguably worse than this one is that the brother is played by KZbinr Brent Rivera, someone who's pretty infamous for the gross videos he makes revolving around being unnervingly overprotective of his sister Lexi.
@kirbyboycoolness67342 жыл бұрын
Exactly that’s what I’ve been thinking
@owenogletree63742 жыл бұрын
Oh, man. That video. Most of DM's vids can at least be enjoyed with extreme irony, but the Brent Rivera episode doesn't even have THAT going for it. It was genuinely excruciating to watch. "Don't spy on your siblings"? I think what's more appropriate is "don't be a creepy, obsessive, nosy, controlling, possessive douchebag". It got to a point where I found myself wondering what this dude's issue is. Is he just totally against the idea of his sister finding a man who makes her happy? Does he want his sister to be alone her whole life and never get married and have a family? And yeah, the fact that they were treating his behavior at the end like it's some harmless quirk was simply insulting. It feels like Dhar is normalizing this extremely unhealthy, abusive behavior. I've never watched this Brent Rivera guy, but if he really is like this in real life, I hope they put him through a shit-ton of therapy.
@thatguydave55322 жыл бұрын
Finally, someone who mentioned that!! That video was my least favorite Dhar Mann video in history because of how toxic the moral was of how if you're a controlling freak, you'll get rewarded in the end. Man, this is really starting to piss me off. As much as I'm not a fan of the older dhar mann videos either, at least they were trying to teach a lesson despite how predictable the plot elements were. I feel like a bunch of the newer videos have this stupid formula where the bad guy has a suspicious feeling about some person or someone, then they spy on them or gather evidence until the good guys throw a cheesy surprise and they're all like: "We got you, haha :D" In what way does this teach a lesson??? It's now just a cliche Disney story rather than a life lesson story. I remember another new video where the bad guy (Chas) pranks his wife constantly. Then the cops actually show up and the wife thinks it's still a prank, then he gets arrested and can't be bailed out because the wife still thinks he's just pranking her. You probably think it ended there. You would think that the lesson is kind of like in "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" where you shouldn't lie about danger because when danger comes no one will believe you. And if it ended like this, it could have been a decent dhar mann video. But nope, as it turns out, the wife set-up and planned this ENTIRE situation, from the cops to him actually getting arrested and that just completely threw me off. Sorry for that long rant but you're right August, Dhar Mann is getting even worse...
I agree with everything except asking a minor where they're going when they're leaving the house. There's no harm in asking that, because although everyone has cell phones these days, a vague idea of where a child you're responsible for can be helpfiul.

It's like a satirist/parodist snuck a copy of a screenplay of his Dhar Mann spoof into Dhar Mann Studios, and they took it seriously. Bruh! Helicopter parents is literally the big thing that ruined my first relationship when I was in High School like it was literally mentally exhausting for me so I broke up with her, and she basically once she turned 18 moved in with one of her boyfriends, also she basically constantly gets engaged, so I think you can see how damaging it really is to be a helicopter parent.

I have AND (Anorexia nervosa disorder) it’s an eating disorder and my mom isn’t strict. But she made me literally film what I ate for like a week. And she started an argument when my brother tried to defend me. Long story short she became a somewhat strict parent. (I know she just wants the best for me but she is doing the opposite by making me film what I ate, thats not how you get someone to eat because it made me just not want to eat.)

I dunno if I commented on this video on a different account already, but as a semi-sheltered child, I can confirm the protective parenting can make you crazy. I have really good parents who supports a lot of things that I do, but I'm 17 and they almost don't treat me any different (aside from my mom not caring if I'm wearing crop tops and stuff (which even then I never go overboard with)). I understand that they worry because they care, but I am a good driver and they will barely let me drive other people or distances over like, thirty minutes of driving. They've worried about me so much for so long with barely any change that I've started to become frustrated, and whenever I tell them it's problematic they say they can't help it. You can worry and care for your child all you want, but you have to start going against some of your own safety and control practices as they get older. I'm gonna be an adult soon, and there won't be much they can do to stop me. With all due respect, I feel border-line untrusted, and it makes me act crazier than I want to.

2:25 I think it’s because the script piles on a bit, it ALMOST works but Dhar seems imminent on adding more unnecessary dialogue or just dialogue that isn’t natural Take for instance when the mom says “Come on I’m serious” and follows it up with “There’s something going on between them” it doesn’t feel natural because it’s an unnecessary addition and seems to switch the subject of conversation too bluntly it COULD just be the delivery but I can’t really see how that could be properly delivered

I know I’m about 2 months late to this, but my parents, mainly my dad, say I can’t date until I’m 40. I know that is a joke, but with the way they act sometimes when they hear how most of my friends are boys, it makes them a bit clingy. Ugh my mom was like this. Not really that I couldn't date. But she was so paranoid I couldn't be left alone with my ex and father of my child through the same circumstance you explained of not being able to come to my mom when I was stressing out and pregnant not showing any signs until 5 months in. Imagine being told you couldn't be in your room with a guy (or girl) and you're stuck in a hot kitchen in the dead if summer playing video games in front of a 19in TV. But it does cause your child to be secretive about stuff. I was in my early 20s when I got pregnant and in high school my time of the month was always irregular so I was always bombarded with the question of if I'm having sex. So to all future parents or parents if young children curious about dating. Please talk to your child about being honest and safe about their relationships. I'm a mom of a 10 year old child and I will explain when she's curious. Because that's what a trusting parent should do. Aside the fact that my boyfriend of 7 years wouldn't want to come down here because we can't even spend time in my room we'd have to go to a hotel. Which despite not being a bad idea it's a little unfair that I can't hang out in my house with my boyfriend. I still live with my parents now but it's for convience of getting my daughter to school.
