many people might not know this, but the song she dances to is talking about the six ancient districts of her home island, of O'ahu. 'Ewa, the central south; Kona, the southern east; Ko'olaupoko, the mid-east; Ko'olauloa, the north eastern shores; Waialua, the north west; and Wai'anae, the entire western shore. the song is an awaking to these districts to the start of a new dawn, a new day. *Edit* : ok so Iʻve been informed that Auliʻi was originally from the island of Hawaiʻi but moved to Oʻahu. @ Kupa'a Kaleo...Mahalo nui loa for sharing that information! i had the Blessing of living on O'ahu back in the '80's...danced (and felt) Hula (as best i could as a white girl) and it was an honor to be told by a native lady who made my Haku lei that she felt i had a Hawai'ian heart. My heart and spirit never left and i am working towards moving to Mau'i as it is that Island where i have felt strongly drawn to bring healing in some way. My son is currently on O'ahu on his Honeymoon...he was just over 3 yrs. old when we left but still remembers some things about living there. Ho'onanea! *:D
