When I lived with my grandparents we had those big, brown cockroaches for about a year. We were very clean, meticulous and organized. We still had them in our home. Every day we had to check our beds for eggs. Sometimes, in between the box spring and mattress, I would find these little sacks that looked like beans. Once I had a giant cockroach crawl across my face in the middle of the night. After two extermination treatments, my grandparents finally got rid of them before selling the house. Before moving, we combed through everything we owned before packing. For years I had nightmares about bugs crawling on me, waking up terrified. Somehow, I have no issues watching Auri clean while they crawl every where haha!

Yeah, I believe you can still have cockroaches even if it’s pretty clean. They’re apparently drawn in by dark, moist places and in places where there’s plenty for them to eat - such as Kitchens where there’s lots of food debris, for example. Usually, if you don’t leave food debris around, you shouldn’t really have a problem with them - but it’s very difficult to do that, because we can’t exactly see micro particles. It’s probably likely that you had a nest somewhere without realising or knowing where it was.

Same. I think it’s far worse when alcohol is involved and this looks like a major depression, not a less severe one. I always come to a point when I start to take the clean dishes out of the dishwasher and put them where they belong. Then I put the dirty ones into the dishwasher. I follow up by collecting the garbage from the kitchen counter, put it in the trash bags and bring them outside. Then I do the laundry and collect the dirty clothes from the floors/ couch etc. Sometimes it’s really hard when the depression is pushing me really into the bed but I am a fighter and know my depression is lying to me. We should never listen to it. It’s bare self respect to clean up the mess.

If they don't want to have their kids sent to foster homes, they'd better turn over a new leaf. 1. Get sober 2. call pest control and fumigate that house 3. Don't ever , ever let the place get filthy like that again. They might be nice people and they're embarrassed and sad about how it got out of hand, but the fact that they've exposed their children to this dysfunction is unforgivable.

I want to add that I've been in therapy for years, and as a mom whose story parallels this one to a T, therapy only goes so far. They need community support. They need someone coming into their house once or twice a week and cleaning it for them so they can focus on raising their amazing children. Children with neurodiversity NEED that support more than anything.

I feel an empathy to the family and really happy they asked for help. People don't know, how it is, when you raise children with special needs. I leaded social sessions with kids with ADHD and after 1,5 hour I was more exhausted than after 10 hours office work. My cousin has ADHD and as a child he was full of energy not able to unload, there was no possibility to focus him for longer time, he played with no thinking about consequences - my aunt and uncle had to keep an eye on him all the time. Thankfully, they lived with grandparents, who were great support. It's vicious circle, because parents mostly try to pay the attention with new toys, but a clutter is overwhelming for sensitive kid's nervous system

No doubt, there were cockroaches under it. I did go help clean a place that was 100% worse than this, for cockroaches. With 3 kids. The walls (so dirty), the smell (unbelievably), the mess was something even you couldn’t believe. You shook laundry in basement and they come out of pockets. And one kids bedroom was right beside the laundry room. Any book, cockroaches. Open oven and the cockroaches were everywhere. Pots all over kitchen, with old food and in oven. Took long time to clean it. And, if you know anything about cockroaches, you must have a professional get rid of them so I am glad this owner is getting a professional, after it was done being cleaned.

Sami’s a keeper, he valiantly fought cockroaches for you on Valentine’s Day!😊 There’s a large age gap between these parents and that might have something to do with the state of the home, if the mom is 22, that means she had kids at 16 and at that point they were already living together and got Peanut. She was a child herself and most likely doesn’t have a clue how to manage a home. Imo the houses are way too big in the US in general and having such massive houses is not really a plus, there’s more space for kids to mess and it’s harder to keep them clean.

It's important for kids to have routine and organization in their lives. The parents should provide equipment for active play in the yard to help the kids expend energy. Velcro catch ball, jumping hoppy balls, a tetherball set...all inexpensive activities. I noticed a big hole in the wall; I'm sure that is filled with bugs and should be exterminated and closed off. I'm a former nurse and a retired elementary school teacher and cringe at the thought of a nurse with such horrific hygiene caring for patients. As far as that mechanic husband being there for everyone, charity begins at home. Good idea to recommend therapy. Nice work, Auri.
