80 thousand years???? 😭 I hope it comes back sometime around July because I have Vacations that month
@NaztronomyАй бұрын
Maybe we'll get another comet in July! If I find out about one, I'll post a video about it.
@ronm6359Ай бұрын
I saw the comet last night (Oct 10) shortly after sunset. It was a naked eye sight if you know where to look. I live in rural Iowa and have a great western horizon. I could see it naked eye still in the glow of sunlight. Looks great in binoculars. I’ve seen many comets in my lifetime (including Halley in the 80s) and this is awesome. Not quite as spectacular as Hale-Bopp, Neowise, or even Iris-Aricki-Alcock, but still awesome. We’ll see what happens in the coming days.
@roypiercy3415Ай бұрын
You'll see it tomorrow

@@roypiercy3415 and the following days too. I have a telescope and 11x80 binoculars

Thank you for reporting back about the comet! I'm hoping I can go somewhere tomorrow to see it. No good view of the western horizon from where I am but I'll be driving to the edge of a reservoir and try my luck. Neowise was the first one I ever photographed. I missed Hale-Bopp, wish I could have seen it. Same with Halley. Clear skies!

Saw auroras at the darling line, 37 degrees N, northern New mexico last night. Brighter a couple dozen miles north into CO, but darker skies there too

Whoa that's really far south! This storm turned out to be bigger than expected. Thank you for reporting back. Hopefully we get some more aurora tonight. Clear skies!

I seen it at 32 degrees south near Perth, Western Australia. I spent a week in New Mexico once and it is my favorite place in all the US of A. And I just found out what the Darling Line is. I never knew that. I was in Arizona as well but never Utah or Colorado...

I got to see the aurora two nights ago at 32 degrees south latitude in Southern Western Australia. Fairly high in the sky as well. The pink glow had reached Canopus and Achernar and they were close to 45 degrees in altitude at the time...
@NaztronomyАй бұрын
That's amazing! Thank you for reporting from down under, you're the first person I've seen mention the southern hemisphere.
@gecko-sb1kpАй бұрын
@@Naztronomy I've had no luck with the comet though. I live in a country town away from the city Perth but our night skies are not as dark as the use to be. But some nights when conditions are right the sky is just a bright ocean of stars. Anyway, I got to see Halley's comet when I was 18 and that was spectacular from the remote area I was in at the time...
@NaztronomyАй бұрын
Ah I know the pain of light pollution. The comet should get higher up in the sky as the month progresses so hopefully you'll be able to see the comet in a week or two. Wishing you clear and dark skies!
@gecko-sb1kpАй бұрын
@@Naztronomy I should never complain about my sky because I have it better than most with two awesome telescopes an a good pair of binoculars. When it comes to astronomy I think the southern hemisphere is a good place to be. Cloud cover is the real enemy. But I do miss the days when our street lights went out at 10pm and our town was pitch dark...

Can we see auroras in the UK
@DavidEsp1Ай бұрын
Yes, this aurora incident was seen by many, even in the south. Also two previous ones this year. But it's faint, not like the (good) cameras show it, and light from any nearby towns etc., can wash it out, so have to be or travel to a suitably dark-sky location. At 11pm local, in this case, for a friend in south of uk.
@peatmoss4415Ай бұрын
You missed it 5 hours ago. But you do have to go outside and look up....
@NaztronomyАй бұрын
Yes! the UK has seen all the shows the US has so far this year. Hoping there will be more. We might get a repeat tonight although it may not be as strong as last night's storm.

You nearly gave me a heart attack, for a second i thought you were to say A3 had broken into pieces. Where did you find the coronagraph animation?
@NaztronomyАй бұрын
Ah didn't mean to scare! The Coronagraph animation is from SOHO. If you google for NASA SOHO imagery, there are a a few official NASA sites you can go to for those images. I downloaded full images and turned it into an animation myself.

Some guy on the radio referred to the “Oort Cloud” as if it were a real entity. He didn’t say that it is purely theoretical with no evidence at all of its actual existence.
@NaztronomyАй бұрын
Maybe one day we'll be able to observe something from that far out and confirm its existence. Until then, it'll stay theoretical and we'll continue to connect long period comets to it. Just my opinion, but when talking to the general public, I think it's probably fine to leave out the fact that the Oort cloud is theoretical. Most people don't know what it is, don't care what it is, and probably won't even remember it 10 minutes after they learn about it.

Wow, in all of human history no so called "solar event" has ever affected humanity but it's definately going to "this time". 😑
@NaztronomyАй бұрын
Solar events have affected the earth for a very long time, in the form of Aurora. Sometimes a bit of communications blackout but we're at a really good place in terms of technology to withstand really strong solar storms without worry.
@unitedstrafes4522Ай бұрын
@@Naztronomy No, no no no no, they SAY that's the reason for small comms blackouts, there's absolutely NO proof ANYTHING from the sun causes it.
