This song is about a mercy killing she read about somewhere in the world, so it's based on a real event. The live version at the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Concert is also very interesting, and the setting is stunning. So glad you are discovering Aurora, a real genius when it comes to songwriting, vocals, and production. Everything she does is interesting and engaging, a completely unique talent.

When doctors refuse to euthanize and someone love so much that they stop letting his wife suffer and she wants to, then what was sung in the song happens. Greater suffering for another. That was happening at the time in Aurora's homeland near her. Then she wrote this song. The wife is seriously ill, every day greater suffering, including the treatment, and the husband finally kills her. The song is sung from the perspective of the ghost of this woman. The woman knows that her husband loves her and did it out of grace. She is not angry with him. The choice of title is also very well chosen and should therefore be questioned. Does this man really have to be called a murderer? He did not kill in cold blood for selfish motives. He has taken a great loss so that someone else doesn't have to suffer. He's taking prison and knowing that it was him. Can someone like that really be compared to someone who shoots people to get money or out of jealousy?

I really really wish you watched the live version but its ok! Most of her songs are just stories. There are a few about her; but most aren't personal. She does write a lot about love, loss, lust but sometimes (like in this) speaks about murder, abuse, depression. She's claims to be a people watcher lol & likes analyzing the way people live. I recommend watching All Is Soft Inside(about 'the emotional people' as she says) live @ KEXP or Churchyard Live @ KEXP (This ones about verbal abuse, but its surprisingly upbeat).

Aurora wrote a lot of her songs when she was young (9 to 18) and many of the songs deals with death or nature. Her style of music is unique and often deep and requires interpretation. Her songs are emotional and empathetic stories which are not your typical pop songs. Your reaction is similar to some who may not particularly like this song. I do hope you listen to Aurora again, all of her music will touch you, which it obviously did even with this song!

Her performance of this at the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize concert is wonderful. She is accompanied by the amazing O. Martin, who is playing guitar and singing harmony in this video. The Little Boy in the Grass is haunting and beautiful as well. It’s about the 2011 massacre of children on Norway’s Utoya island, where she lost a friend.

This song is based on a true story. It was in her local newspaper where a man kills the love of his life to spare her from the incurable disease she was suffering from. He didn’t want to watch her waste away so he killed her. The song is written from both perspectives technically. The counting is both of them counting down, him to pull the trigger and her to accept her own death. The song presumably takes place as she dies, as she’s watching him cry and beg for her forgiveness with her in his arms only she can’t do anything about it since she’s, well you know, dying. She’s trying to let him know that she understands why he did it but it never gets across and instead she just watches him be in so much pain. A truly sad and heartbreaking story but a beautiful masterpiece from aurora 🤍

Often abusers break when they can see what they are doing. They hit harder when you cry, because: how dare you 'showing' them what they cause. "Stop crying!" I think about that a lot when she sings about 'him' crying. Here is my take: In other songs of hers, words are described as bullets for example. So, when "he holds the gun" against her head, it may be his mouth. Saying something that kills her. Or doing something that kills her soul. A moron trying to toughen her up? Someone trying to break her with words, words that are supposed to hurt her right. And he's telling himself that he is teaching her a lesson, that the abusive lesson is a vaild action... And when he sees in her reaction what he does: he cries. And explaing himself with his bullshit, useless reasoning. Did it all "to spare her". Listen to "Churchyard" (Live at The Current).

When I hear the song I automatically think of father and daughter. The father is depressed and only sees the bad and cruel in the world. He doesn't want his daughter to suffer the same as he does and thinks he is doing the right thing in stealing her life. He'll probably kill himself after that. And she sings from the perspective of the daughter's spirit, who is just seeing what the father has just done. This is really hard song. This happens every day in the world.

Great reaction to this mesmerizing song by AURORA! For live performances by AURORA (she's always amazing live, with her unique immersive uber-expressive style), I recommend the 2019 HAIK Concert that took place in a forest. Songs performed in that venue are incredible! Her best live performance of "The Seed," in my opinion (though the music video is also amazing). The KEXP concert in Iceland is another one to check out -- especially the songs "Churchyard" and "All is Soft Inside!" Then there is the Nidaros concert in a cathedral, with orchestral ensemble, pipe organ, harp and choir -- her songs "Lucky," "Little Boy in the Grass," "Through the Eyes of a Child," and her debut of "It Happened Quiet," among others.
