Thanks for this video. Very helpful. Just below the vent on the outside is a small copper pipe outlet which goes out behind the van wall. (I have an extended duct to make sure all is sealed to the outside cover) Can you explain what this does. I have had to re install my heater after some van body work and getting everything to align out to the vent panel is tricky. Is there a way to share a photo?
@AusCamping
@AusCamping 7 күн бұрын
That is an overflow, if the internal tank leaks for any reason, the water accumulates in the base and exits via that pipe so that there is less likelihood of water damage inside the van.

Excellent video. Our problem is that on both 240V and gas, the hot water runs out very quickly. The van is 3 years old and never had an issue previously. Any clues??
@AusCamping
@AusCamping Жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, we haven’t got any personal experience with your specific problem, from a general troubleshooting perspective I would recommend opening the lever on the safety valve and making sure that you bleed out any air until you have a solid flow of water through the discharge pipe. If the problem still persists after that, then I would contact Truma support and ask them your question (1300 07 2018) If you find the problem and solution, feel free to let us know, we may include the problem and solution in a future video.

All good explained here, with one exception. How do I know the PCB (electric circuit board) is not faulty, please? Batteries are good, gas is there too, the cowl plate is sealed, gas ignites, but the fire stops after 10 sec or more. No wind no cold.
@AusCamping

Thanks for your question, you would need to contact the manufacturer to get details on the circuit board. I am just an end user and fellow camper, sharing my experience with the water heater. I don’t know anything about troubleshooting the PCB sorry.

Hi mate, Thank you for you video. Everything checks out for us accept the last couple minutes of your video. We are having an issue with the red light coming on. We have gas, water and everything checks according to your suggestions. Any ideas as to why the fault red LED light keeps coming on if everything else looks fine?
@AusCamping
@AusCamping 7 ай бұрын
Hi Dale, red light comes on if the burner fails to ignite or gets blown out and fails to reignite. In a quiet environment, if you turn the switch on, you should hear a clunk sound as the gas valve opens, followed by a ticking sound which is the ignition sparking and if you listen carefully, you can hear the gas ignite (similar to a gas BBQ). If your system is new, it can take multiple ignition attempts before you actually get gas all the way from the bottle to the water heater as the gas line is likely full of air. You should still hear the ignition but if no flame results, then the gas valve closes and the red light comes on. If on the other hand, you get ignition initially but the flame goes out after a while and that is a recurring problem, then you’ll need to take a closer look at the manifold and make sure it is mating hard up against the external wall plate, if not, it will be in taking the exhaust which is already oxygen depleted and causes a flame out after a while.

Hey Craig, sorry for the delayed response, my suggestion would be to look for the black cable coming out of the heater and into the 240V outlet. Plug something else into that outlet to see if it is actually working. If you can confirm that you have 240V at the outlet with another device but you water is still not hot after 30-40 mins, then I would recommend getting it looked at by a professional. We do notice on ours that it takes longer to heat on 240V and it is not as hot as it is on gas.

Well mine leaking water from the top area , can’t really see where it’s coming from because of the covers , I’m going to see if I can get a isolation valve put in son I’ve still got water to the van taps , most annoying i have turn the water off and release pressure otherwise I’ve got water dripping on the floor , I guess I’ll have problems with that in time
@AusCamping
@AusCamping Жыл бұрын
Definitely need to get that looked at, have you checked to see that it has the mandatory pressure regulator installed on the inlet line? They aren’t designed to handle full water pump pressure or mains water pressure.
@perry8498
@perry8498 Жыл бұрын
@@AusCamping that I also wondered with pressure I’m on bore and pump setup the water quality is very good but when I’m washing dishes I get a surge of pressure so the heater is getting this surge as well

My van is new me, but has seen a life, it works on 240v, had to replace the fuse on the PCB for gas to work, which now makes great clunks and clicks but then goes red, cowling cover is off, but never ignites. Gas is flowing to the hobs and valve open. So my worry is gas is not get into the igniters, how can I verify that? I have repeatedly started and stopped the gas but it always goes red?
@AusCamping
@AusCamping 10 ай бұрын
Hey Mark, sounds like you are well down the path of troubleshooting. Trace the gas line back from the heater and check that there isn’t another isolation valve that has been turned off. Each appliance will have its own isolation valve. It’s good that your hobs are working because that indicates gas is available but may still be isolated from the heater. After that, if you are still not getting ignition, then I would suggest that you contact Truma for further support. I haven’t had the need (so far) to dig into the gas jet or igniter and I’m not one of those people that pretends to know everything. I’m happy to say “I don’t know” in this case rather than give advice on something that I am not 100% sure about. Let me know how you get on with it and perhaps we can share your experience with others. 🍻

Had this issue recently with ours also. It’s not real easy to dismantle but I removed the clamp ring, found the pin hole and sealed it with a water proof tape and then reassembled it. So far it is still holding but I suspect we will need to replace the unit or at least the holding tank

Hi Craig where did you get the hinged cover for the HWS? So much easier to use than the plastic cover.
@AusCamping
@AusCamping Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question, our van arrived from the dealer with that cover. I see that the newer models have the standard Truma plastic cover which I agree, is a pain in the arse to take off. Personally, I would go to a metal fabricator and ask them to make me a cover. Hinges and pinch weld (the sealing rubber) are available from Bunnings, so a self insulation wouldn’t be too difficult.

Great info mate , I'm a new subscriber and am really enjoying your videos. My question is , once you light your hot water system on gas do you Just leave it on or do you turn it off say when you go to bed ? I'm new to this and was just wondering what the best way would be to run it as I don't want to stuff it up. Thanks for any info you can forward to me Cheers
@AusCamping
@AusCamping Жыл бұрын
Hey Mal, thanks for your comment and appreciation. We tend to turn it on and leave it running until we’re packing up to move on. Always shut it down before hitting the road but no problem to leave it running while you’re set up camping. Of course, if you wanted to save some gas and you only want hot water at certain times of the day, then also no problem to shut it down when you’re not using it and just fire it up half an hour to an hour before you need it. It’s a personal choice, there’s no wrong way. We all camp differently so just do what works for you 👍

Hi Craig. Our Truma stopped switching on with gas. I went through all the usual steps. I can hear the click when I switch it on and the red light does not turn on. Just wondering whether there could be an issue with the ignition system, such as dirty or faulty spark electrodes. My question: Do I have to take the complete system out in order to check this? It looks like our one is mounted in a similar spot.

If the LED is not coming on, then it could be a blown fuse, I'll post a link to the user manual, check page 5, the troubleshooting section lists your symptoms regarding no LED and the Maintenance - Fuses section (also on page 5) has the fuse location and specification information. www.caravansplus.com.au/pdf/Truma-Ultra-Boil-Manual.pdf

@@AusCamping Sorry Craig. The led does come on after 30 sec or so. Yesterday, I took the cylinder out the motorhome (quite a job) and it is now on the bench. I cleaned it out with a compressor. The gas inlet looks clean. Would it be advisable for me to replace the Flame Rectification Electrode and/or ignitor (unbelievable expensive) for a new one before putting everything back in the motorhome, just in case? I don't think there is an easy way to test these. Thanks for your reply, Klaas
@AusCamping
@AusCamping 11 ай бұрын
@@Klaas_Hat that stage, I would be seeking advice from the manufacturer. The unit is either failing to ignite or flaming out and failing to reignite. I would think that Truma would be able to advise the most common cause.

If your heater keeps turning off what do you do then ??
@AusCamping
@AusCamping 11 ай бұрын
Hi Lynn, in the 3min-9min portion of the video, I talk about the most common installation issue that causes repetitive flame outs and right at the beginning, I talk about making sure you bleed any air out of the system and that the Hot water system is full of water. Lack of water will cause the heater to shutdown and poor airflow/ installation will cause flame out.

Hi Evie, I ignored the manual in this instance. They recommend to use mastic not sealants because most sealants aren’t suitable for high temperatures so it’s a safer for them to recommend mastic. I used SikaSeal appliance sealant which is available at Bunnings and suitable for temperatures up to 250°C www.bunnings.com.au/sika-300g-black-sikaseal-appliance-silicone-sealant_p1210606
