There is no turning arrow towards Old Reynella while the Panalatinga Road to the expressway or South Road has a green arrow. So the Everest had no reason to be turning

Anyone ever heard of the term “Stale Light”? A green traffic signal will only change to one colour. When approaching a stale green light….anticipate & reduce speed & be ready.

That intersection has two (green arrow only) right hand turn lanes. I dont even think they turned from one of them. So they also ran a red.

@@FailedExpert6330 Not only that as there was a red arrow in the cam cars direction they more than likely had a red arrow as well as turning rom 3 lanes wide.

I could see that car turning in front from so far off. Plenty of time to safely stop and avoid any collision. A green light doesn't mean it's safe. I ride motorbikes 80% of the time since I was 16. I'm now in my late 50's and still never had a stitch or a broken bone. Keeping eyes open for danger has saved my life countless times.

I totally agree but to say that I see drivers every single day with extremely poor anticipatory skills. As you pointed out, we really have to anticipate other drivers driving poorly and obliviously. It's like you have to drive (or ride in your case) with that meme... 'I turn now, good luck everybody'.

Hmmm, both parties had enough time to stop. Maybe, just maybe, both parties weren’t looking where they were actually driving, even if both parties were thinking the other driver had a red light because of the car stopping at the lights that was also wanting to turn but their light was green too. So, no one ran a red light??

I seen a similar thing last night at the intersection not to far from there coming around Landers on to south road. As I was travelling down south road I saw a car driving through the red light turning right of Landers Rd onto south Rd just as I was going down south road. I wasn't anywhere near hitting him or getting into a close call but if I was about 10 seconds earlier I could have been in a nasty crash. I wonder if the 4WD saw one of the other lane's light turn green. I'm not at all sure 4WD's road has combined signal heads or if the lanes have separate signal heads. I see mostly combined signal heads in Australia though in the videos I watch. This can be fairly rare in other countries. I think combined signals are kind of dangerous, as people see a light turn green and fail to differentiate that it's not for their lane.

Maybe neither - just didn’t look twice. The way our eyes work you don’t see everything the first time, but when you look a second time you pick up what you missed the first time. And if you don’t look the second time, and there’s something there, you crash.

There is no mistaking this one, vehicles crossing your path, they just expect you to slow down and even stop to accommodate them. But, only drivers of shiny new cars will do that. Its clear the cam driver isn't behind the wheel of a shiny new car. And the SUV failed to grasp this simple fact. It may be a fail for the SUV driver but its a win for the Cam driver; he gets a newer car; an maybe some added health problems.

Habitual idiot / bad drivers who don't give a damn about the rules or right of way always get encouragement (and thus boldness) from fellow idiots who coddle them and try to blame their victims. There were only about 2-3 seconds before it became apparent the SUV might not stop. Who here can honestly say they can always (meaning 100% mentally and physically) react to avoid something within 3 seconds? Nah, I don't think so. The dashcammer was green when the SUV made an illegal turn and crossed his/her path. It was completely the SUV's fault. You don't need to uselessly overthink this.

4x4 at fault. But ,my theory why it happened is because the cam car changed lanes on the bend towards the left and the 4x4 mistakingly presumed the cam car was going to go left onto the freeway ..4x4 still at fault but thats my take

Even so, the car was moving at speed. The 4wd should have seen and anticipated the straight move. As a driver you have to judge speed as well as inaccuracies.

Know this junction well. Controlled arrow lights at this junction, and the other driver ran a red, and turned from a straight only lane too by the looks. The cam car probably had them positioned at least partially behind his A pillar for much of the time, until too late with the reaction. The at fault driver would have had clear vison of the cam car though, so ran a red, from an incorrect lane, and failed to see the unfolding collision.
