Now back on the Honda ST1100 after finishing the refurb of the Hydraulic clutch system but now with no backup. R.I.P. "The Beast"

I always have a helmet cam and on the bigger bikes a full dashcam system front and back, the reason I was on the scooter is the ST 1100 was in bits on the garage floor while I was refurbishing the hydraulic clutch system, ST 1100 up and running again. R.I.P. "The Beast".

4 collisions in 25 years on bikes over a 45 year period, none my fault but more worryingly, 3 of those incidents have occured here in Toowoomba in the last 4 years. Rear ended while stopping to let pedestrians cross at crossing, April 2021. Collision at lights when other vehicle did a right turn across my path, Feb 2024. Kamikaze Attack, Jan 2025. Survived the lot, so far, now begining to wonder where the target is painted on me.

My phone had the right idea then, that is where I found it, popped right off the QuadLock mount with the impact.

You're joking. The KIA had to cut in front of the van instead of waiting for it to pass. Hence taking the short route, that is coming in on the wrong side. At speed so loses it when they hit the gutter crossing.

I leaned towards that as a plausible reason at first but he also came in to the drive at an excessive speed, barely in control, and I had no time to get out of the way when he come onto my side of the driveway by not keeping Left.

He was on the wrong side of the road (driveway), in Australia the 1st rule of the road is...................KEEP LEFT.

@@gregedwards1087 to be fair it wasn't on the road anymore. it was a private ground. The keep left rule is not enforced. The driver of the KIA was probably going for one of the pumps directly. The real problem is that the driver was probably not looking at where he or she was going.

@@jeremysun7365, ahhhhhhh, wrong, while it is technically private property in that the owner is allowed to refuse entry, it is open to the public and the road rules do still apply, you also have to see and avoid at reasonable speeds which this driver failed to do, best you reread the rulebook Mr Jeremy, it also sounds like you condone the drivers actions in colliding with me because it was, your words, "a private ground".

I was shocked that they weren't out of the car sooner to check on the bike rider.

While it is technically "Private Property" in that the owner can refuse entry BUTT it is still public road rules that apply, Keep Left, drive to conditions at appropriate speeds, see and avoid, etc..... Road rules still definately apply, insurance is valid.

@@gregedwards1087 Yeah, a publicly-accessible car park is classified in the road rules as a "road-related area", and in such an area normal road rules apply.

Nothing too serious I hope. Atleast you had on the proper gear unlike a majority of scooter riders I see around here

@@oges74, learned a long time ago about the 'Dress for the Slide not the Ride" thing, while the gear is relatively ineffective in a collision it does have some padding effect. The scooter, "the Beast", is (or was) a second bike that I used while my 1999 ST 1100 Honda was off the road while I refurbished the hydraulic clutch system. 3 hours in hospital and a bruised foot, nothing major, the design of the scooter (foot well wise) helped in that I was trying to leg it away from the car when he hit me, although at 63 I am not as fast as I once was. Cheers. :)

50cc... basically the same motor as a larger brushcutter

Basically is at 50cc, I have had bigger engines in RC Aircraft. But it did the job while my ST 1100 was off the road while I refurbished the hydraulic clutch. R.I.P. the "Beast".

@@paulineh4019, no point going off and I had already counted to 20, I did remind him that KEEP LEFT is the 1st rule of the road though.

It is actually an Entry and Exit driveway but this driver decided not to obey the 1st rule of the road, "Keep Left". It is also debatable that he was in full control of his vehicle.

Exactly what I thought when he hit me.
