Men your videos keep getting better and better! You have certainly filled the void Jang left when he stopped doing videos for Ultimate RC. Glad to see how far along you've come, congrats on another great video!

No, Jang did not stop doing videos for Ultimate RC, he's just on a "vacation" from all of those horrible trolls like you who keep on attacking his character, saying that he has quit Ultimate RC (and RC Mania) and I hope that he bans you from Ultimate RC if you're even registered there, and if you're not, that he makes an account for you, JUST to ban it because you're just THAT horrible of a person for doing so. All hail our Dear RC and LEGO Lord Jangthegrandmeisteroftimeandspace! /sarcasm I completely agree. I'm glad AussieRC stepped up to the plate to provide some quality RC review videos; I really wish more people would do the same.

As a fellow Stampede 4x4 VXL owner, I agree with your points completly. MIP X Duties are a must, and I'm going to put a Castle Creations 8th scale system in it. It's a truck that isn't perfect out of the box, but the nimh started me out as my first hobby grade RC, and once upgraded to run 3s and 4s once my new motor/esc combo gets in, it's going to be a blast! Great Review :)

I bought this anyway after watching your review. I've owned it for 2 weeks and have added $100 MIP axles, $60 proline tires and wheels and now am trying to get a warranty repair of motor/speed control because it is overheating after about 5 minutes of lower speed driving. Despite all this I've had a lot of fun with it. I'm not ready to call it a "bad" truck yet, but I'd say your criticism's are definitely valid.

Thank you for backing me up on that. The truck has a lot of potential and I'm sure once you get the setup right, you'll have it for a very long time. Thank you for watching.

Aussie RC Playground Ok, I've dropped to a 9 tooth pinion, installed fan on the esc, installed heatsink on motor, and rigged up a fan to blow across the motor/heatsink area in the chassis. Temps seem to be back under control. For the record I'm running Trencher tires and X-Duty MIP CVD's on 3S lipo. I run mostly on loose gravel and dirt with some hillclimbing and even a little trail running mixed in. Even though I've lost some top end speed (due to the gearing change) I'm happy with the performance. We'll see how it stands up over time! And if I have any more issues I'll probably just swap in a better power system.

This is my only hobby-grade ground vehicle, and the only thing I have broken on it so far is a rear driveshaft, so you are definitely spot-on about that being the weak point. I tried one of my 3S plane batteries in it once, just for some high-speed passes, and boy does it scream! Afraid of breaking parts though, so I stick with 2S for bashing. Great review Vas!

Mate, glad I saw this in time. I was about to take the plunge with a Stampede 4x4 VXL. I won't now. I had just purchased a Rustler VXL and happy with it, though have not run it through my LiPo packs as all my LiPo are deans. Waiting for Traxxas connectors to be delivered. I have the Slash 4x4 VXL on my wishing. But already have Axial STT. I have lots of Yeti parts as I also have a proper Yeti built from kit. I have learned to DIY key parts, so it's not expensive to own. It's an awesome truck. Love your reviews 👍

LOL yeah, pretty much exactly the same as the brushed Rustler units, except for black plastic instead of quality white nylon. But this recycling will be the down fall of Traxxas. Nice, one part fits half their line up, but peoples want something new.

Yeah, I had a 1st gen Revo, must be nearly 10 years ago. They have either been lazy or cheap. And what development budget they have gets wasted on these cheesy micro toys and things like that dragster, it was cool but useless. Hmm. Oh well.

Great review! Just to let you know I am 98% sure that the ESC on the truck has not changed, traxxas have only ever had the 1 brushless system, made for 1/10 scale cars and they have never changed it. and to fix the wheelie bar from poping open you can use a cable tie.

This has probably already been answered but yeah Vas Traxxas replaced the ESC and Motor with a new 4 Pole motor and ESC capable of driving it. You can tell the difference on the motor by the sleeving. The plastic sleeving with the Traxxas logo stenciled on has been replaced with a solid black braided cable, and the ESC now has a bank of capacitors on the back. I am sad to say I still had overheating issues though, but only on 3s, on my Traxxas Rally

I think if everybody, and I do mean everybody, just starts shipping their broken driveshafts back to to Traxxas (not for warranty replacement since most people will have already upgraded them the first time they break) they will have tons of scrap plastic clogging up their shipping department and might finally get the message that they need to beef them up.

I've just bought the stampede, before I even run it I'm doing a ton of upgrades. I'm running 2 cell & 3 cell lipo's so I know the axles are probably going to break, they did on both of my short course 4x4's. I automatically add a heatsink & esc fan, that's a no brainer. All I can say is, it is what you make of it, you break it you fix it with better parts. But I like your review, it gave me even more ideas.

Excellent review. I was very hard on this truck in my review claiming all the same problems you had (motor, driveshafts, wheelie bar, and more) and was giving rude comments and dozens of dislikes in return. I guess that is what I get for telling the truth about a traxxas vehicle. Some fanboys just can't hear a bad thing about traxxas.

I tried to warn him, lol. Some people don't want to be confused with the facts, they've already made up their minds. I greatly respect the opinions of Aussie RC Playground , and UltimateRCnetwork Both Vas and Jang are honest as hell, sometimes to a fault. I just find it odd that while Jang loved this truck, Vas wasn't impressed. Oh well....
@AussieRCPlayground
@AussieRCPlayground 10 жыл бұрын
Matthew Fant Thank you so much, Matt. :) Jang's review is now years old and quite possibly outdated. I did watch his review several times before doing mine and I even saw a few others, including IRC and rcnightmare's review, but in the end I just went with how I felt about the truck based it on the experiences I had with it. That's really how I base most of my reviews anyway, sometimes my experiences are good, sometimes they're not. It doesn't make this a "terrible" truck, this truck has enormous potential, but as a RTR vehicle, it's just not all it's cracked up to be. As I said in the review, the bar has risen. And for the record, I'm glad that most people are siding with me in this review, because I was fearing the same retaliation that IRC copped in their review. Haha. But I'm not going to lie about a product just so people don't get upset about my opinion. If people like you look to me as a source for an honest review of an RC, then I have an obligation to tell the truth. Even if it means I upset a few people out there...
@MatthewFant
@MatthewFant 10 жыл бұрын
Absolutely bro. I have no idea why, but I love this truck. It has a lot of downfalls, most of which you were very honest about. Mine also has the silent motor and esc upgrade. Your refreshing honesty has me looking at cars and trucks I'd never consider before. Btw, I got my slash ultimate, and you were right, it's awesome!! Pricey, but very nice.

Matthew Fant Yeah, the Slash Ultimate is right up there with the best, in my opinion. Not the best "bang for your buck" ratio, but it sure does deliver.

I have to say that one of the reasons I think this truck ‘feels’ as good as it does is that it seems so ‘light’ when driving and I say that in a good way, in that it handles like it can do anything. It then of course lacks that ‘grounded’ feeling, but is surprisingly stable except for the wheelies (4x4 version only). Not to say that it’s perfect as a truck - but the way he’s treating that ‘rollover’ situation where he just guns the throttle until it rolls over, does not look like bashing, but IMO more like ‘misuse’... nothing wrong if that’s what you want to do, but to then observe a breakage, is no surprise. I drive several 4x4 VXL’s quite hard (and I consider myself to be brand agnostic - so not a fanboy) and yet have had very few issues relative to other 1/10’s. I have the stock TV fans and no overheating issues. Everyone has their own opinions - but I don’t consider this a ‘fanboy’ related opinion, but rather an opinion based on my actual use of the truck. That said, the Slash (lcg especially) is an amazingly solid vehicle that I think is much more resilient in these situations... but obviously in a different class.

Bang on. I have slash 4x4 and I built it up from a used platinum roller and between a used mamba SCT system used MIP shafts And RPM A arms I still have more than $800 CND. Into it. However. If I retail purchased it together it comes out to nearly $1400 CND . I practically bash it like I hate it and don't break or strip anything. But good maintenance says a lot too!

great vid i really love how your telling the truth about the truck even though people will maybe unsubscribe, which is really great its makes you mean what you mean and not like these people who act like there advertising the product to save there subscribers. anyway thank you for that. sorry to ask again but on what scale of 1/10 and yes i feel ya i really wish those drive shafts would not exist anymore, especially for a company that has a big popularity. so thanks for the videos :)

For this one, I'd give it a 6/10. It's not the worst RC I've had, it has a lot of potential, at least. And the new ones that have the updated electrics could have improved performance and make it a bit better to drive. Thank you for your support. :)

This video makes me happy that I didnt by the rustler, the slash, or the stampede vxl l. I bought the base rustler and put a hobbywing max10 sct esc with the 3660 3300 kv motor. The only things I have broken are the suspension arms, my body, my bearings, my caster blocks and blew out my talon tires. No drive lines as of yet!
@Trent1435
@Trent1435 9 жыл бұрын
I purchased one in June and have been happy with it so far but your review is spot on. You want to run 3S on this thing? Forget about it, unless you upgrade the driveshafts which is another 70 bucks atleast, and thats just for the back.The tires are garbage to, thats another 60 bucks if you want real traction. If you want to run taller gearings then fans are a must on the esc and motor, especially with a 3S. Even with fans I'm still having to let it cool off about every 6 minutes with a 15/54 gearing, will probably put a 13T pinion back on to have better temps. You can make this a pretty good basher however it needs upgrades... and the prices will add up. For the price traxxas should give you a better truck, one with aluminium shock caps, steel driveshafts, fans on the motor and esc. If you plan on using a 3S plan for shit to break because this truck is no where near perfect out of the box. Its pretty ok on 2S though. If i was to buy another truck it would not be a stampede. There is better stuff out there that that will handle alot better because with the stampedes high center of gravity it flips so damn easy, and there are monster trucks that do have low center of gravity chassis. If you want a stampede and are experienced with rc's then definatly build one up from a rolling chassis, like he said, its a really good idea

@liquidalloy 9 жыл бұрын
I have zero issues with the motor and esc getting hot. I am running the truck out of the box with 1 change, the 3 Cell 25c Traxxas 4000 MAH 11.1V lipo battery. The truck is so damn fast. I posted a bunch of videos on my page. The motor and esc get just a little warm, not even close to hot. The only thing I did break was one of the rear bearing carriers cause I slid sideways into a basket ball post. I put aluminum on it now. This truck takes a beating. I beat on this thing big time. Jumps, water, hard braking, wheelies, flips and it is fantastic.
@AussieRCPlayground
@AussieRCPlayground 9 жыл бұрын
Yours is not a Traxxas then, it's an imposter! LOL. Also, if your electronics are not getting hot, then you must have the upgraded version that I mentioned, I've heard the overheating issue is not as bad with the new electrics. However, running 3S and not breaking a single driveshaft? I would be playing the lottery if I were you, because you are very lucky indeed. I've even broken those pathetic driveshafts on 2S... But, glad you're enjoying yours and that it's holding up better than mine did. I've upgraded mine since this video and I have a couple of videos on it as well.
@liquidalloy
@liquidalloy 9 жыл бұрын
hehe, yea, alien technology :P I must have the upgraded parts then cause I bought this in Feb. of 2015. The motor will get slightly warm after a 30 min beating session. I was told the axles will break eventually but I examine this thing after every run and so far so good. I definitely love this truck a lot. so much fun. I don't know if you saw the videos I posted on my page, check them out when you get a chance :) Thanks for the reply btw. Joe

@Bige4u
@Bige4u 7 жыл бұрын
The 2wd truck is $200 for the brushed version, but you'll be looking at doing more wheelies with it than anything else because of all the weight(motor) in the rear when using the included NIMH battery, it'll be even worse when you convert to brushless and using a lipo battery. The 4wd truck is $300 for the brushed version, but it will still cost you a good amount of money if you decide to upgrade it to brushless and the hopup parts needed to be able to support the added power, of course you can use it with the included NIMH battery, there will be no need to worry about breaking parts, so it will last you alot longer as is out of the box stock. Third option is to find a stampede 4x4 roller chasis on ebay for under $200 and build the truck your way...

Aussie RC Playground You seem to think the pede doesn't measure up but what 1/10 monster truck is better? With that said, I bought one about 6 months ago and have replaced nearly everything..... as it broke. You're right that 3s is a killer. Once I switched to that it was over for the truck, but I can never go back to 2s. A monster truck that is 3s ready sounds great but who would pay $600us for a 1/10 monster truck? Not many newbs, thats for sure, and thats also where Traxxas makes it's money I'd be willing to bet.

hmmm. starting to look at RC again. this and that trx-4 stands out. I pretty much want bullet proof, well made and can take a beating. for the prices...I would think they are? But this vid points out some negatives...Wondering if they are changed by now in 2019

That's the thing about doing a Traxxas review, it will hold up for years before anything changes. Traxxas aren't known for making improvements on their cars, the Stampede 2wd, Rustler and Bandit are prime examples. The only thing they've changed on this truck since this review is the motor and ESC. Mine was using a 2 pole motor, while the current line comes with a 4pole motor. And the ESC is a better unit as well so it will handle the new motor. Aside from that, nothing else has changed. Still the same plastic, still the same body design (just with new colours), still the same crappy tyres, still the same issues with the wheelie bar and still the same bouncy handling from those same plastic shocks that will pop their caps and bend their shafts. Personally, there are far better offerings out there these days for the same money or cheaper. The Team Magic E5 and the ARRMA 3S and 4S cars absolutely destroy this old Stampede in every way. Better handling, better tyres, better shocks, better driveline and better durability. But like I always say, the choice is yours to make. No mater what I or anyone else says, sometimes you have to go with what appeals to you and what you want.

Hey bro, I have a question regarding the Stampede 4x4 VXL. I've already upgraded the shocks, driveshafts and tires (as stock are crap, which I worked out pretty quickly) Now I'm having heating issues on the motor and ESC. As opposed to getting a new combo I was thinking of purchasing a hobbywing heatsink and fan for the motor and a traxxas fan for the ESC, about $30 USD all up. My question, do you think this will be enough to keep everything cool and prolong the life of both the motor and esc? I'm running 3s standard now because I need the speed haha... Thanks for your advice :)

Hey Vas ! How about you do an Review on the kyosho dmt ve-r ? Since it''s also a 4x4 - 1/10 monstertruck, 3s capable , it's in the same division as the Stampede, and the Vaterra, you recently reviewed. A friend of mine has one, but was at first plannning to buy i Stampede. After haveing had owned a Slash 4x4, (witch also suffers from the same problem as Stampede , motor,esc,driveshafts,shocks etc), i told him to go with the Kyosho. Besides the body, his car has hold up really well. Actually he drives it on 4s, with a 120amp hobbywing esc. Besides that it's stock.

I haven't owned a Kyosho in over a decade, so I think I should get another. I'll look into it, but it won't be for a while. I have other RCs in line first before I buy the Kyosho.

Aussie RC Playground Ok. There's not really many reviews on kyosho car's these days on YT. When i was i kid in the late 80's/ early 90's, kyosho was the no.1 brand here in Sweden, where i live. No Days i fell Kyosho is quite underrated. Here the dmt ve is about 25% cheaper than a stampede, yet it is by far more durable.

All the cons are valid complaints. I hate the way the center of the body doesn't come past the chassis, when the body is on. Just looks awful seeing the gray chassis like that. As far as the driveshaft and electronic problems, just another way companies can sell accessories and hop ups.

+Captainchuckles321 Maybe one day, but not any time soon. The E-Revo is a very expensive car (about AU$1100) and a very old car now. I'm hoping Traxxas update it some time in the future so I can have an excuse to buy one, but I doubt they will. Plus, there's dozens of reviews on KZbin about the E-Revo already, I will just be repeating what a lot of people already know.

I'm not sure of the Price's of this truck, I bought mine in new condition at a pawn shop and it happened to be a limited monster energy drink truck the mutant, and I went to a rc store the guy wouldn't even talk to me about upgrades,he said that's a special truck every shop got only one and there not making any more it should stay the way it is. I thought he should have bought it then I want more speed can always get more parts that's part of the fun fixing it,so I went on line and got a bruchless system changed the gears got a 2s and a 3s haven't ran the 3s yet but holy shit bruchless is the way to go I probably should have saved the body, not. I definitely have the badest thrasher around I moved the shocks over and took 1/2 inch off the body mounts dropped it down some, I really can't imagine anything being funner to drive

I have to tell ya Vas, you're a brave man. Taking on all the traxxas crazies! I bought this rc about 6 months ago, and I agree with almost every point you made bro. Despite it's faults, for some reason, I still love this Pede, and drive it twice a day, everyday. A couple things you can try if you're interested, is to dissemble the motor, clean the can really really well with rc motor cleaner, then use part number 3352 www.amazon.com/Traxxas-3352-Rebuild-Velineon-3500/dp/B00106NHNU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408489689&sr=8-1&keywords=traxxas+velineon+rebuild+kit When I took the motor apart and used this kit, I noticed a big difference! I also gave mine the slash 4x4 ultimate treatment, with aluminum caster blocks, c hubs, and rear axle carriers, and rpm a arms. And part number 6893x. it replaces the rubber bushing on the slipper clutch with an aluminum one. I also noticed that the stock bearings in the car are not very good, and slow down when they get gummed up with dirt and gunk. Maybe it's just my experience, but when I clean and take good care of the bearings, the car runs much cooler, and smoother. Thanks Vas! You're the best, and look forward to more reviews, speed runs and bash sessions. And your go pro bash videos are my favorite! Love them all!

My opinion is just that "my opinion". If the "Traxxas Crazies" have an issue with that, well... Suck it up princess! I try to be fair, informative and unbiased in my reviews, and based them on the experience I have with the RC in question. This one let me down time after time and, although there are some very good points in its favour, I still feel that it's a bit bellow standard. As far as upgrades or mods for this truck, not likely to happen... I'd rather put my money into new RCs to review, but it would make a nice project, that's for sure...
