Loved this video. When I was a kid at boarding school in Ballarat in the 70s I used to take the Dimboola train to Ararat, then take the Portland train to Glenthompson, where I grew up. Unfortunately, the Ararat-Portland train no longer exists, as far as I know.

really nice - since Western Vic is relatively flat, are you making small and infrequent notch movements to keep at a steady speed?
@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER
@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER 4 жыл бұрын
It appears flat, but it's actually somewhat undulating, nothing steep u til you get between Ararat and deep leed, then it's 1 in 50s and in a 3000t+ train you notice it, same with the undulating terrain. Unless you are in full power, you are always moving the throttle to maintain speed and plan ahead for up and downhill runs.

What's the procedure for blowing your horn at a crossing in Australia?
@legass420
@legass420 6 жыл бұрын
santoro2020 depends which state and if its in a city or not. In Victoria trains often blow twice at a level crossing sometimes its a long blast and then a short blast.

Do you not blow for crossings down in Australia??? Here in the states they would fire us for not blowing two long a short and a long for each crossing. Also, are you allowed to listen to music down there? They have completely banned all electronics here.....so no music.....we do it anyway, but pretty soon inward facing cameras are coming......I don't know if I will even want to work for Union Pacific anymore when that day comes. Maybe I can get hired on down there and ditch this over-regulated tyrannical shit hole that was once called the United States.

paul g. o'neil pretty cool to see it gone as far as i'm concerned. the multiple gauge scourge has cost the australian economy zillions of dollars over the years and could have been the reason we might have all been speaking japanese now had the country been conquered in the second world war. and it's the main reason there are so many trucks on country roads today.
@nihongo02341
@nihongo02341 5 жыл бұрын
Australia is a bit more relaxed about it. No Federal Railroad Administration. But we have been privatizing railways here in the last 20 years.... We should have stricter codes. I guess a driver would get fired if they were told to and continued not to do so. But the Pacific National drivers seem to be a bit more pro active on this than other railways. As Aussie says, they don't really have to.... and no one cares unfortunately. But we do have lots of accidents and derailments and we have had a lot of accidents with trucks. But still nothing is done. It should be mandatory like the USA. Set a standard.
