Hurrah for Sketchup! I use it for most everything; RC, woodworking, home improvement projects, etc. Not the best design tool non-architectural projects but it's free, easy to learn and use. I'm a big fan. The truck looks great but that trans is incredibly noisy. LOL Great video!!

After some running it's lovely and quiet now, it needed a bit of oil on the CVs after an hour or so though

Awesome to see it getting out for a run I still need to get mine up and going as well. Was looking at thos Inexpensive chassis..😀 I also like thos 3D parts to mount the body you came up with.👍 That's what I was trying to figure out how I was going to mount it. Oh how I need a 3D printer

I actually built this same combo austar chassis and comanche hard body, this truck has 8 degree front camber for turning. my bearings have normal "slop" if you will, but the evident camber was an engineered addition.

How is it, that epoxy is needed for magnets, yet the flimsy paint wont come off with the glue?

I read the cherokee pickup body is for 290mm wheelbase ?and austar chassis is 313mm ?

Recently got one of these as well and found most of my slop to be in the front links and where the steering knuckle mounts to the axle housing. Also found that the stock strap just barely secures a 2s 5000mah hard case lipo.
@RCMojoTV5 жыл бұрын
I found the straps fit my ROAR legal 5000 2S pack perfectly, but the slightly larger packs are a bit of a struggle.

Perfect set of videos for this project! Do you have a list of the fixings you used for the Suspension and Chassis Rails? Thanks! :D
@RCMojoTV5 жыл бұрын
Did I not get around to listing them on Thingiverse... Woops... Well, as a quick off the top of my head list, it uses the M2.5 screws that come with the chassis to mount the aluminium tubes, in addition you'll need 8 long M3 screws, M3x20 or M3x25 for the cross braces with the magnets, 8 M3x6 or M3x8's to mount the mounts to the chassis and possibly 8 M3 nyloc nuts. That should be close enough, I'll have to check properly and update the Thing, I think there's more than one I need to add the fixing list too on there!

I had one of those noisy austar transmissions in one of my rigs, I found stripping it down and be I g very liberal with lm grease it quietens it down alot and runs smoother. Just a heads up as to what I found works. Great looking truck.
@RCMojoTV4 жыл бұрын
I’ve been quite lucky with mine I think. The rear axle is just showing signs of not being completely happy with life, when it’s really bound up it makes the occasional click as the gears skip. Most probably due to the bearings giving up. Otherwise though all the noises have long since disappeared as the parts have run in, even after a 16 mile outing in thick sticky mud it ran perfectly, it’s so light and free running it only used 2 5000mAh 2S LiPos while others went though 6 or 7. It is about time it had a rebuild though, if the rear axle is starting to show signs I’m sure some of the other bearings will be getting a bit wobbly too. It’ll be interesting to see how it’s all held up
@hardcoretam5 жыл бұрын
Is there much front end float on the axle? I noticed the original 10.2 has a panhard bar and 3 links due to the chassis mounted servo but this comes with 4 links instead
@RCMojoTV5 жыл бұрын
It's as solid as any other good 4-link setup, but there is quite a bit of bump steer which the Panhard usually fixes so driving on the flat it likes to go anywhere but straight

Nice comparison! btw, does the austar kit has the same exact dimension in terms of parts such as axle and suspension etc.. as the cherokee scx10 kit? I would love to put cherokee body on it.

The vast majority of models have a 313mm wheelbase, so as long as you can figure the body mounting you'll be good to go

What size and quantity of bearings will need to be purchased to replace the kits poor quality units? Also, have you noticed any other issues with the chassis so far?
@RCMojoTV5 жыл бұрын
I've not been through it yet, and there's not manual. I would guess the axles will match up with SCX10-2 and the centre gearbox with the SCX10, Don't hold me to that though… As for issues, no, it's had an extended woodland run, 4-5 hours more or less non stop, and other than the drive shafts getting a bit squeaky it's running lovely.

Just picked up the Injora clone chassis for $150 without tires. Have spare parts from my SCX10 I to build the new chassis.
@CentralVAracer4 жыл бұрын
After a year how has it held up for you? Worth trying just to have a spare cheap trailer? Thanks.
@RCMojoTV4 жыл бұрын
After lots of running there hasn't been a major issue. It's mostly seen cross country use, climbing up and rolling down lots of hills, getting so caked in much the wheels wouldn't turn... Surprisingly while the bearings are a bit wobbly as is typical with the cheap kits, none of the have failed yet. As long as you keep in mind it is very cheap for what you get and keep an eye on things to catch bearings before they cause collateral damage, I think it's a brilliant value bit of kit.

@RCMojoTV5 жыл бұрын
There's a choice, they're both very different beasts. The P407 is a complicated bouncy duplication of a piece of history. The Austar is a fair copy of a modern scale trail chassis. What you really want is both ;)

@RCMojoTV5 жыл бұрын
As long as you keep in mind how little you’re paying for a complete truck they’re really rather good. As soon as you start comparing them directly with an Enduro or SCX10.2 just the feel of the Chinese chassis just isn’t as good. Having said that I’ve had hours of fun with mine after tweaking the suspension and so far nothings broken

Were there any problems noticed about the car while you were putting it together and running. Like bad gearing, not smooth or not much flex/hard shocks. I have seen many reviews about this to say not to get. So what is your opinion on it, is it good, bad, potential and even amazing with a few upgrades. What would be the first upgrades you would do, can you please tell me, list them or even make a video. Thx for this vid, very nice
@RCMojoTV4 жыл бұрын
It's seen a lot of running since the video, including a 16 mile non stop trek in rain and mud. So far nothing has broken, the front knuckles are still a bit wobbly, but they haven't fallen off yet! For upgrades I tend to only change what needs changing, the custom suspension setup made the truck a lot more supple. Otherwise working out the wobbly knuckles would be a good idea, I haven't looked into parts yet.
