basic training teaches you to view things in a digestible manner to reach your end goal. You have to hike 10 miles and that sounds like a lot? Alright, then for right now just think about 1 mile. When things get hard you think about one more step. When things don't feel as hard for you, you look at those around you and encourage them and reach your goal along with them. They will do the same for you. It doesn't teach you this directly, but your brain/body will naturally figure out how to get past challenges and it only gets better at solving these problems the more problems you throw at it. Which is exactly what the training does. So you learn to adapt and overcome.

I arrived there October 2013. One of my RDCs was a Marine before switching over to Navy. It was hell. Lots more screaming than they showed in this documentary. I watched videos on Marine basic training and it looks very similar to when I was at RTC in terms of how recruits are treated. It all depends on your RDCs; I ended up with 3 RDCs that all saw actual combat in Iraq (a Marine and 2 Seabees). The one teared up while telling us how he had to shoot people. The Navy isn't all about ships, some jobs get deployed to the front lines to assist the Marines, even if you're a culinary specialist.

If anyone is wondering...you do not ship your personal belongings home. They just go in a storage on base. You get the box back the day before you graduate but can’t open it.

As a former Infantry Drill sergeant from Fort Benning in the years 1986-1988, I give credit to these RDCs , they are doing a tough job, but nothing like the old days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This seems tame. I went through in 1996 and Our chief threw a wooden totem at a guy and it shattered on his bunk. Im blessed to have served in the dungaree Navy, the same century as my grandfather who served in WWII.

One RDC threw at table at someone while I was there. Different century, same bootcamp.

I still remember bootcamp like it was yesterday and I've been in the navy for 18 months.

Great video! It brought back some memories for me. I was at Great Mistakes I mean Lakes in 1996 in the middle of winter. Snow flakes so large they'd give you a black eye. File it in, file it in... division, half left face... DROP! oh lord

The only thing in this video that scared me was the shots omg!!! Did y’all see how many shots they got? I almost puke 💀 needles are my only phobia and I just signed up for the navy wish me luck 😂 tomorrow I have a meeting with a recruiter and I’ll be taking the asvab test but yeah really only the shots scare me, I was in rotc for 2 years so everything else look familiar

Bootcamp is lovely, I miss it so much, I mean in Brazil for sure is not 1% hard as US but I still miss it a lot. I wish I had an opportunity to do it in America.
