What didn't make it into this KZbin edit was the Asian henchman's name: Random Task. It was a spoof of the henchman in Goldfinger, whose name there was Oddjob. Also, the theme that plays when you first see Powers dancing in the London streets is called "Soul Bossa Nova". In the 70s here in Toronto, there was a very popular local game show whose name eludes me now that used this song as its theme. I've never heard Myers talk about it, but I'm sure he must have watched the show too and remembered this when he needed music for the film.

As a social commentary about the different ages, and also how things work between generations.. The younger generation always think the older has it wrong and "aren't with it" and don't understand various things.. While what they are talking about are ALWAYS things that already have been done and the older generation is fully aware not just about how it SOUNDS good.. but they usually have seen and heard about how things work in reality.. That is why older generations are so quick to not listen to younger people, when they think they have something to say.. they are just rehashing things that already have been tested.. What Austin Power represents is NOT! "Toxic masculinity" Like most of the younger generation IMMEDIATELY thinks when they see him actually being open about sexual desires (and because of how older generations react and talk about this movie they CLEARLY don't get this toxic masculinity thing)... but what Austin Powers RATHER is representing is this thing that the younger generation would refer to as "Sex positivity", as in: people should be allowed to have their sexual preferences without risk of slut-shaming... Part of what was needed to reject slut-shaming is to question the narrative of sex being something that HAS to be hidden, and also "justified" by only happening in socially accepted circumstances (such as marriage).. hence another thing that was a HUGE deal in the 70s was.. "Poly amore", or in that case it was kind of a mix of some communistic ideals (so parts of what today is poly amori was rather looked at as a "commune living").. The other part was called "Free love" ... and the 70s is probably not the only place/era where these types of revolutions happen either, but it IS one of the ones that is easiest to reference as it was after movies and TV were well established in society so everything was recorded, and made media about.

Hey Jen just so you know the Steam roller and sea bass scene had more to them. There were scenes where they show their family's and their lives for example the guy who had his head eaten was actually going to get married the scene after his death shows that his friends were throwing him a bucks party. As for the guy who was flattened they showed that he was a married man with a wife and step son

I'm one of those harsh critics when it comes to comedies, too, but for some reason, the Austin Powers movies, other really silly stuff like the Naked Gun movies, Space Balls or Hot Shots still crack me up. I loved Austin Powes back in the 90's, saw the Spy Who Shagged Me in theaters back when in summer of 99 I was such a huge fan after watching the original a ton. Maybe it's all pure nostalgia, which is funny since there's other stuff from back then that I used to adore watching that had either become dated, unfunny, uninteresting, or I just outgrew. But Austin Powers still manages to get a few laughs out of me.

Natalie, that is hilarious that you don't know what to do with your arms. This reminds me of the movie This Is Spinal Tap in which Rob Reiner's character, Marty Di Bergi, also doesn't know what to do with his arms & w/out giving much away, you two should do a reaction to this film. You'll certainly relate to Di Bergi about not knowing what to with your arms. "This Is Spinal Tap" is considered a cult-classic & one of the best comedies ever made. It is a rockumentary (or mockumentary) primarily improvised & was ahead of it's time when it was released in 1984. The cast did such a wonderful job that many believed the film to be real. How much of it was actually improvised? "All of it. The entire film was improvised. The only speech that’s not improvised is Patrick Macnee - at one point, he says, “Tap into America,” when they’re launching the tour. He was not an improvisational actor, and he asked us if we could write a little speech for him. Everything else was improvised." "Among the funniest and most quotable films ever made... It launched the careers of the central trio. Shearer became a mainstay of The Simpsons, McKean most recently turned up in Better Call Saul, and Guest went on to make the mock doc his own by directing and starring in the likes of Waiting for Guffman (1996), Best in Show (2000) and A Mighty Wind (2003). Reiner himself became a master of first-class Hollywood cinema across the genres. The New York native followed This Is Spinal Tap with hits such as Stand by Me (1986), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992)."
