Valentinas on Manchaca. 3. Pabalote on South Lamar 4. Taccorido (Multiple Locations) 5. Veracruz (Multiple locations but go to the one at Radio Coffee house cause Radio is dope.) 6. Pastor on Riverside 7. Pueblo Viejo (multiple locations) 8. La Tunita (Birria on Burleson) .... and literally any other gas station taco place around the city. Small tip: As someone who is Mexican, if you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, don’t go to a Tex-Mex place. Tex-Mex is not authentic since it fuses Texas food with Mexican. We don’t eat burritos and a bunch of queso and chips in Mexico, or at least not in my village. Tex-Mex can be delicious for sure though.

Lets be real most of you are moving from Cali like I did so here are the pros and cons: Pros of Austin: * Genuinely nicer people, when they ask about you, they usually actually care and its not forced. *Food trucks: Good options spread out all over the place, affordable, tasty and great for local business. *Boutique/Small businesses: Way less chains and corporations than Cali....at the moment. Nowhere near the same amount of cookie cutter layouts and high-end chains everywhere. Way more character and much nicer to drive passed and admire the architecture of some of the buildings. *Live music/Bars/Restaurant's: Good options, fun, plenty to attend. Great atmosphere and vibe. Real character. *Pet friendly beyond belief. * Spacious, clean and safe parks like Zilker. Well maintained. * Obviously the lakes and rolling hills are beautiful and accessible. Cons of Austin compared to Cali: *Weather is a big downgrade. Don't believe it when they tell you its minor. The mornings are all gray and chilly, then suddenly its 90 degrees with high humidity and the sun is HEAVY - even through the clouds. And half the time it is cloudy, blue sky is there but not the same levels as Cali. Summer is unbearable, I miss going out without even factoring in the weather. It certainly sucks in comparison. Fucking bugs everywhere. *Prices are soaring up for both renters and buyers, and by soaring I mean 80k+ above asking price to buy, while 2 bedroom apartments are now mostly 3k+ in the desirable areas - that is catching LA up fast. Some are even 5k+ downtown for like 1300 square feet. Cough Northshore. *Lack of variety in terrain. There is no Lake Tahoe, Big bear, Red woods, Joshua tree, cool neighboring cities like San Diego, no equivalent wine country like Napa/Sonoma/Temecula, etc no showy mountains or beaches. Replace Vegas with New Orleans though ( love that city). They have green hikes and trails but not the same variety. I'm kind of wondering where people go for their 3 day weekends, and that seems to be Colorado lol. *The skyline is full of cranes. The real estate tycoons are no novices, they pay off the politicians, grab all the prime land and then force out the locals and build characterless buildings at sky high pricing. This is what they did in LA - beware they are doing it here too. And once the downtown is full they'll start buying up the close suburbs and turning them into medium rises. Everyone thinks its great for the economy until the neighbors they grew up with are forced out for higher net worth people moving from somewhere else. Capitalism is the best system we have, but it is flawed when it is such a protected monopoly running each of the US cities now. Austin is going down the same path, quickly. Austin is a cool City. It has more character and more soul than Los Angeles and many other parts of California but it is over-hyped in my opinion. Sadly the no state income tax draw is being wriggled around by other price increases and taxes so don't base your decision on that. What you'll save is starting to erode. Businesses, media, politicians are all buoyed by the surge to move here but the novelty will wear off for a lot of people. It's definitely got a bandwagon type feel already.
@charlesmullins26863 жыл бұрын
Austin is a great city. I love the fact that bartenders play guitars behind the bars, drinking at Ski shores while water skiing, and the best-looking students I've ever seen. It's a great weekend city. It's often compared to San Francisco and I agree, it's beautiful but starts to get boring fast, but you'll be drunk so it won't matter. The Mexican food is great but how many times do you want to fatten up with all those delicious chips then your second margarita comes with your huge platter of food. Those college kids get fat. Oh yeah, it's very liberal but everyone is white and far from diverse.

Vast majority of the problem is from the last 2 years too. Mayor Adler decriminalized “camping” and it attracted thousands of homeless. Now the city is buying up hotels to house them all. Just a cycle of lunacy.
@nikkifury89853 жыл бұрын
@@gingerman5123 The homeless population has always been an issue in every major US city. Financial strain across the state leads people to move to the cities because there aren't social services in more rural areas. The only difference is before the camping ban people just had to sleep in the open, and now they are slightly more out of the elements. Source: I was involved in getting helping get those hotels. As it turns out, not wanting to help people but also wanting them out of your face isn't a great solution, and you have to take action.

@@nikkifury8985 And when Austin made it not only easy, but incentivized moving here to be homeless it's gotten 10x worse.
@aaronkamakaze29673 жыл бұрын
@@nikkifury8985 no it hasn’t. There are plenty of US cities that have no where near this same problem. I live in Houston, same state as Austin. But our mayor doesn’t incentivize homeless and encourage people to basically move to our city to camp around, use drugs openly without punishment and basically never arrest anyone for petty crimes. That encourages people from all over the country to flock to these types of cities. Seattle, Portland, San Francisco all have similar laws and they all have terrible per capita homelessness issues... trust me, there are plenty of US cities without overwhelming homelessness crises.
@illbuythatforadollar77063 жыл бұрын
@@nikkifury8985 I’ve lived in Austin for 24 years, up until the last 2 years yes we have had a homeless community, but not an over blown problem. It specifically is because of the decriminalization of camping. Every inch of “free” land in downtown and within 5 miles has become covered and spreading out. Do you even live in Austin to say otherwise? The change is quite stark and obvious.
