That was a very good video. Andy seems like a pretty neat feller. I would like to hear about changes he has seen in the welding industry. I bet he has seen his fair share. I think stainless steel coffee cups would be a pretty cool thing to have. I would dang sure buy one! Work hard and be safe.

What does the " tie in " guy do that's so important that once he leaves, everyone leaves?
@AustinandKayla5 жыл бұрын
The tie in man is the Forman of the crew. In this case he just had another job to go to, if it would have been in the mid of the job they would have just hired another tie in man and we wouldn’t have got laid off. But in this situation they were in the process of finishing up this job so they were already laying crews off every couple of weeks as they finished up where they were. So it just worked out that I got to come home same time he was headed to another job.
@franklowe21805 жыл бұрын
Austin and Kayla I currently do shop work tig welding alloys and, pipe, tubing and hot roll in central ohio but I really want to move on up and am buying my gear one thing at a time to become a pipe line welder helper very soon, hopefully late spring or early summer. Any suggestions what states or where to look for welders looking for helpers on the pipeline? I appreciate it.

Im really not sure, I have never done inspection, but I'm sure it's just a matter of meeting the right person to get you hooked up.
@TP-iv3jz5 жыл бұрын
Denver Gibson Best ways just to do a google search for pipeline inspection companies in different states. There’s a bunch gulf interstate, QIS, cleveland integrity services, Tulsa inspection resources, Applied consultants then a few in West Virginia I know of Elk Energy Services, Team environmental. And just put in resumes everywhere you can find.
@TP-iv3jz5 жыл бұрын
Most of these places should be paying anywhere from 600 to 1,000 a day for the day rate plus overtime pay.

Very noob question here- when welding, how does anyone know exactly where to dig up the pipe to be worked on? Or do you have a video on it/plan on making a video on it? Because it doesn’t seem like ALL of the pipe gets welded- just a portion of it. Thanks! :)
@robertgemski77285 жыл бұрын
A survey crew with gps marks out the pipeline and then they dig and blast the trench and they weld 40foot sections of pipe together and excavators and side booms lower it into the trench and welders make tie in welds then the xray crew xrays the welds then laborers wrap it in rock shield and they bury it. It’s mostly new natural gas pipes hes welding on. Thats the quick version of it. Its sounds easy but it is not. Pipeliners are bery skilled i was a pipeline laborer then bumped up to welders helper for 2yrs
@WTFisAuserFRCKINname5 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Thank you! Hope you are enjoying it!
@AustinandKayla5 жыл бұрын
I’m on a tie in crew. By the time we get to a location the main part of the pipeline has been lowered in. The “pipe gang” has already came through and put the majority of the pipe together, like this other fella said, they are most generally 40’ sections to start with, then they have a lowering in crew that lowers the big sections of pipe in, after that we come in on a tie in crew and weld up all the lose ends in the ditch.
