Have you given any thoughts about being a welder for a shipyard. I use to work for Huntington/Ingalls in Mississippi. They are always looking for shipfitters and pipe welders. Its union work and pay is better than $20.00 a hour and I use to get 20 hours a week overtime. Work is more steady and after a layoff or two you probably won't have another one. Just a two week payed vacation around Christmas until after the new years.

Austin do you not think you could make more money doing something else like building grills or utitily trailers my son worked for Nextel cup for 13 years he made $28.00 per hour but in 2016 he seen that the fan base was way down and it did not look good for sponsorship so he ask me to apply for our license to build utitily trailers so I did once we got approved to issue titles we started on a part time basis for 2 month we called all the dealer lots that we could find and it took off from there we went from building 10 trailers per month to 40 2018 he quit Nascar now we are going to build on to our shop behind my house because we have a camper line that we are going to do next may so just a thought

Retired from that life Looking back I would have been a lineman It’s tuff on a boom bust cycle. The constant testing is stressful. It’s a tuff life, the money is good when there is work but there is not always work. For a young man wanting to work and not being able to work is a soul shattering thing. Got a chicken run But I didn't see a bell hole in that ditch . Where do you go if that pipe takes off besides being crushed . Got to love that mud . yeah done decades in the mud . One foreman on one of our crews would get a load of one inch crushed rock to put in the ditch . Higher ups some times squealed about the cost . But on a 9 day shift it would enable the crew to be a day ahead of schedule (pipeline fabrication compressor station). With a 12-14 man crew that one day saved because of a dump truck of gravel saved a bag of money and made the work easier

JUST CURIOUS HERE ..... any big ol pipes going any where... or flowing anything any which way...... do the pipes usually get weld'd on the inside as well as the out side...... or is it usually just the outside of all pipes no matter what......??? guessing the metal is pretty darn thick right.... so what sort of welding do u do to make it all seem-less & smooth inside or outside the pipes...................??? what about the gas or what ever u all use there to weld is that bought by u welders or by the company's u work for..................????????
@AustinandKayla5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the pipelines are headed to a destination. They use pipelines to transfer oil and natural gas from the ground to anywhere it’s needed. Natural gas is used to heat houses and businesses all around the work. Oil is used for all kinds of things in today’s world. Oil is also refined to make gasoline an diesel. They do get welded inside and out. The thickness varies. Some pipelines are thin some are really thick. As much as 1” thick or more depending on where it’s at.
@AustinandKayla5 жыл бұрын
The bottles seen in this particular video are used to cut the pipe. The company supplies them. Sometimes as a rig welder we do have to supply our own bottles. Check out my personal Chanel it’s called Austin Ross. I make videos over there that are education about pipeline and rig welding work.

And to you people commenting on here saying that 798 is dying, you’re highly wrong. We’re stronger now and make the best wages than we have in 20+ years. And for the non union hands bitching you’re wages are set on what we get just y’all get a slight cut than us. Yalls fault, not mine and not ours... wanna weld for bullshit pay then get after after it... but don’t bitch and gripe about 798 cause we got a back bone and will stand up for people like y’all make low wages. We know what it takes to be a welder. And the best welders on top of that. Just because y’all won’t stand up for yourselves, that’s y’alls problem. Y’all could fix it. But ya don’t... it’s a shame. I know a lot of non union welder that are jam up hands but won’t stand up about the pay or join 798. I don’t understand it....
