I'm not complaining about the accuracy. 👍 Last week's rainfall outlook proved almost spot on here in Geelong. The big line of showers moved through and it rained much more to the NW and SE of us, just as forecast. We got around 12mm.

Hi Phil, you remind me of the old joke in my youth (40+ years ago): Q: "What's the only job where you can be wrong 85% of the time & still have a job the following week?" A: " Weather forecasting!" Back then, we were lucky if a forecast went 2 days and the 2nd was a bit hit or miss. NOW you're pushing out to 7 days, some try for 10, and you warn us that the 6th & 7th aren't locked in. That's an amazing improvement in less than ½ a century, and I for one appreciate it. 😊 thanks, and may it snow in your hometown everyday next July.😂😂😂

to all the people out praising how accurate the forecasts are first of Phil fantastic job you do the same cant be said for the weather bureau back in the 1950s 60s when coastal nsw was having floods the bureau would issue forecasts saying heavy to flood rains none of this possible heavy falls stunt that they say to cover own butt these days so to speak any forecast you see that has the word possible in it is not a forecast of anything.now i might go and possibly get get a drink of tea and whats the difference between partly cloudy or most sunny more double dutch.

Yes I’ve noticed in the last few years computer modelling nails it a week out more often than not which is impressive. Sometimes the systems speed up or slow down which slightly affects the timing but generally not the outcome.

Still no rain in Adelaide Phil. Last weekend was forecast up to 20mm. We got 1mm. The bush is absolutely tinder dry. Very worried! With regards to weather accuracy, we have come a long way. What annoys me was the boasting the BOM did about their super computer with accurate 4 day forecasts and we are not allowed to know where it is. (They made a big deal about the "secret" location) All this hype about super accuracy but the forecast they give changes every 3 hours for the current day. I can make a forecast using the app tools for the next 3 hours without a supercomputer. Sorry about the rant but if they were more humble with their predictions like you are, I would not be complaining!

At the risk of appearing ungrateful at meteorologists' attempts at predicting rainfall in South West Victoria, I'm wondering if you know why they have gotten so bad at it in recent years (other than the obvious "climate change" broad answer)? I've lived here on and off for nearly 50 years and have always been able to rely on the BOM to get it mostly right within about 5mm; but the last few years have been so wildly inaccurate at long, medium and short-term rainfall forecasting it's functionally useless. It's as though the region has become a huge rain shadow. I get more reliable results from looking at the lowest whole number predicted (eg 0-15mm would have the lowest whole number of 1), halve that and add 0.2mm. 9 times out of 10 that gets me closer to the actual rainfall.... within 2mm.... than even halfway betweet the BOM's ridiculously broad forecast. Why aren't the models working?
@MalcolmRoss-c3b22 сағат бұрын
Phil I would be very interested on your opinion of how much Geotechnical engineering is affecting our weather. Certainly there is an enormous amount of interference happening in the northern hemisphere. It is very obvious from the cloud formations and the amount of chemtrails. There are so many different agencies playing with our weather using different techniques.

Cyclone when?
@bobtis12 сағат бұрын
Are your thunder storms as violent as in the US in our spring. Is that the issue in Australia
@prizecowproductions7 сағат бұрын
Our Thunderstorms very depending on location. Australia like America are vastly huge countries. But the principle is the same except your cool air moisture laden lows come out of the North of Canada down alongside the Mountains you call the Rockys then into the flat warm dry air High areas like the Texas Plains. This causes your cyclonic or what you may call twisters as weather patterns. In certain areas. We on the other hand most of our cyclones brew up in the tropics Asia New Guinea Tonga and the like then drop down onto our land mass. There have been studies where planes specifically engineered to fly through some of these Thunderheads which can rise in elevation between 3000 and 10,000 metres approx 30,000 feet there intensity is greater because the pressure difference between high and low weather patterns. Where I live around the Snowy Mountains we get a pattern of mostly westerly pressure systems coming up to the Great Dividing Range and where the pressure systems are pushed up in elevation to clear the range which produces on occasions downpours, if the pressures are strong enough they might have Thunderstorms as a consequence of Extremely dry warm air pushing up against a slow cool moisture laden low. If you watch this video again, look at the bottom of the screen and you will see Antarctica a ways off where as your continent is much closer to the Artic polar region hence the intensity of your weather that produces your storms and Tornadoes. We in our part of Australia are sitting in what I would a Goldilocks zone 4 distinct seasons. I hope this helps you. Aussie Jeff Moore

When will you do a show on the geoengineering that you mentioned?, you said thats a discussion for another day! Im concerned that the technology to manipulate the weather is so advanced that at best its a deralict of duty for the scientists to not be controlling it for our benefit, and at worst nepharious bad actors are controlling it for a pollitical agenda, ie- climate change, could you please adress that technology?
@ezlow106522 сағат бұрын
checkout Dane Wiginton he's been right into it for many years 😉
@Koroitopal22 сағат бұрын
@ezlow1065 yes Dane is at the forefront of exposing it but im really tired of being taken as a fool for asking the simple questions whilst intelligent people in positions of influence allude to the existance of the agenda yet never follow through with the deep dive into it. We are in west qld, we need rain so bad and all the properties are being bought up by huge carbon companies that are in on the scam clearly and all the towns and citizens suffer needlessly. I love having Phil do these weather reports the way he does, for us, weather dictates our lives out here. But i know Phil will not touch this subject for the same reasons nobody else does.
