I hope they recover. KTM has been pushing the evolution of dirt bikes for a while now. I have 2 KTMs--a bit older models--and never had a problem with quality or reliability. But it was a bad idea to farm out parts production to China--just from a marketing perspective. KTM is a premium brand and people don't expect their bikes to be built with Chinese crap.

GREED, is the answer. example: KTM installs Heated Grips, Quick Shifters and other accessories on some of their brand new bikes. Sell the bikes at a premium price then after a few hundred miles of riding those features just turn off and then the customer is forced to bring the bike back into the KTM dealership and pay around $700 to have those features turned back on. Takes the mechanic about 20 minutes. I did NOT buy a 2023 KTM 890 about a year ago because of that greedy KTM policy. I bought a Honda Africa Twin instead.

I am a KTM 790 Adventure R (2019) owner. Had one crankshaft plus valves, valve springs and followers replaced during 2023. KTM provided the parts to their credit but the labour cost was 2k which equates to 19% of the purchase price. Yes I bought it second hand. I am not a great rider but the bike, in my opinion, compensates for my lack of skills. I suspect CFMOTO was intentional in terms of taking the best engineering and commoditising it. The recently released 450 adventure bike is a case in point. I also believe there is an element of greed in this unfolding story. The board should be dismissed immediately and replaced with the best and brightest motorcycle industry experts. In addition, a product recall for all motorcycles ie the models affected by the camshaft debacle to fix the problems. Even better, offer a trade in program that compensates KTM owners for the pain suffered as a result of the camshaft issue.

I have a 2022 890 Adventure which needed a new fuel tank because the original coating started to peel off (the dealer had never seen this and didn’t realise there was a coating). After fitting the new tank the cruise control stopped working along with starting on only one cylinder. I told the dealer I wanted a top end inspection to ensure no camshaft issues which they did and assured me as such. The starting issue is, they believe, caused by contamination in the new tank blocking the injectors. I have yet to get my bike back after more 4 months. Hardly stellar service.

Pierer (im)Mobility have dug their own grave through their arrogance and greed. Buying all those brands and having a substantial stake in MV Augusta which never had the reputation of being the absolute sales hit, left the cash till not just empty but full of debts. Accountants. That is almost always the demise of a large company. People that chose that career because they are too afraid to get there hands dirty. They don't personally care about these types of products because it is all about money and they tend to forget that their is a customer base that actually purchases these bikes that is nothing like them. (Blanket Statement I Know) KTM has made some great stuff over the years and have been innovative. Again that wasn't the accountant doing these things!! The laundry list of issues on extremely expensive bikes got really old from a customer perspective. Then when retribution was sought they treated the customers as if they were some sort of disgusting plague. (Hundreds of Examples of This Online But Have No Personal Experience In That Regard) Moving the manufacturing to places that have a long track record of poor quality was another stain in the eyes of the customer. Then the absolutely most disgusting thing ever was to purchase a bike and not have full computer capabilities. The accountants said you have to pay a subscription if you want the software opened up?? Wow! What a fricking slap in the face. Personally that was it for me. No more KTM's from that last point alone. They can stick there little subscription where the sun don't shine. Contrary to how the liberal dolts of the world expect things to be given to them or to have everything taken from the backs of the actual builders and maintainers of the world there is this thing called capitalism. If you stop providing the customer with a product that is a better option than your competitors then your competitors will take market share. It really isn't rocket science. Another thing that KTM doesn't get is there market base. The average age of an adventure bike rider is 54. The last thing the vast majority of these people want is some BS tech that takes forever to get anything done, constant interference with riding and bound to have tech issues. Who exactly is deciding that riders want all the garbage tech on the bikes? Yes to be fair there is a few that do. Especially the unskilled riders tend to like traction control, ABS and to be able to talk on the phone and listen to Taylor Swift. But the majority do not.

Certainly oversimplified but KTMs problems are self made.. what is a KTM? Is it a GasGas, Husky, CFMoto or Baja? Neo liberal blind management . Pier Mobility has made a lot of debts for brands without real interest for KTM, for adventuring in indecently priced electric bicycles that nobody bought. And has spent far to much money for races that nobody rally follows except a handful of fans. Worst KTM has a despicable policy with its customers. Another greedy mistake was the joint venture with CFM. Now CFM, as always precised in the Chinese joint ventures, has the legal property of the engines and now can sell and even modify these engines. Surely CFM has corrected their flaws. And Kove makes a 165 kg 800cc TT bike using the 790 CFM ex-KTM engine... After the 2007 financial crisis, Baraj (India) owns 49% of KTM. A possible scenario is that all the lateral Brands will be shut down, the bikes sector liquidated, and Bajaj the lone internal partner with enough cash and will to save KTM gets at least 2/3 or 3/4 of the shares, and thus can take KTM in India. That reminds me the British managers of BSA on 1973-74...

KTM is not going anywhere, stop making this shit.

Looks like it's moved its manufacturing to places like India though, so it has gone "somewhere" 👀

@BritBikeAdventures home is still the same. Our big 3 auto manufacturers use mexico in manufacturing, so?

@@BritBikeAdventuresit did not move all production to India. Harley moves some production to India also. Does that means that Harley is going away and become brand from India? To be able to survive on today’s market a lot of companies have partnerships and some producion moved to have it cheaper. It’s just trendy to shit on KTM, while they make awesome bikes. Not the best, none has that title, but definitely great bikes.

Not trying to "shit" on KTM. Just discussing the moves that are happening in the industry. Most bike brands are having to adapt. All the best.

I'm sure they will bounce back! Like you said, home is still the same. I think most brands are dealing with the current climate in their own ways.
