This was the match where,after he was dismissed,Rod Marsh went back to the dressing room and told Jeff Thomson,'Holding is just as fast as you are'.I've tried to find the video of that Rod Marsh interview but,lo and behold,it seems to have been removed.

There is a lot of reverse swing here - like the one Holding bowls to Greg Chappell. During the same season, Imran announced to the world his sharp indippers (that he then used to devastate India a year later), but nobody has ever mentioned that Holding and Garner too bowled similar sharp incutters.

Big bird 5-56. Great bowler was Joel Garner. One if the best to play the game and very underated. Probably not as quick as Roberts,Holding or Marshall but still very fast and very dangerous. Best yorker and made the ball bounce of just short of a length. He used to make the ball bounce like it was a tennis ball and the ball carried a long way back to the keeper which is an indication of his pace.

Andy Roberts is the 3rd fastest clocked Test Bowler of all time. He was clocked at 159.49kmh. Thommo is the fastest @ 160.45kmh & in a separate study, he reached 160.60kmh. Mitchell Starc is no. 2 with 160.40kmh.

I think Shoaib Akhtar recorded 161.3 kilometers per hour in 2002.

Damn I love cricket. Imagine that start, and the runs Border, Laird, Hughes and Marsh had put on the board... then reversal of fortune.

Look at the poor condition of the pitch. Now think how fast and dangerous the fast bowling unit was and Viv Richards would have loved those cracks. Was this day 3?

These guys hardly celebrate when getting valuable wickets with incredible catches or a fantastic ball!

Holding dominated rest others. Had 24 wickets in this three test series, highest for both sides combined.

Interesting scoreboard graphic. 'W. Indies led by 151' never changed. Leaving you to calculate Australia's current lead. You had to be good in Maths to watch cricket back then. 😂

This is hard to watch. Probably our best chance to beat the west Indies in a series aling with the 92/93 series. Albeit in a 3 test series. In an alternate world where this was a 5 test series and we did not lose this test, then I think the west Indies would have won the last two tests.

Why did holding bowl off the short run so often? If he did that today he'd be dropped for the next test.
@chriswatson79652 жыл бұрын
In Australia, at least, his bowling was much more effective off the short run. He was faster off the long run, but more wayward and with reduced variation. Note in this clip that the ball that got Marsh was a slower ball, something he wasn't capable of bowling off the long run.
@chalkandcheese1868 Жыл бұрын
@@chriswatson7965 His run up was a mile long, and it was the end of a long summer, he did it to conserve energy mostly.
@jugheadsrule Жыл бұрын
He went off the short run if he was carrying an injury, coming back from an injury, or in this case, look at the number of overs all the bowlers bowled. It was a flat Adelaide track in the 2nd innings.

Brilliant upload, Dinesh The WI looked almost no chance when play started. What a magnificent team. The Australians weren't bad either, especially when you consider what the Windies went on to achieve over the next 5 or 6 years. Thanks again!
@Dinesh-nx4lh2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Renato, this Windies team really were special for so many years! They never gave up and could win from anywhere. This was the end of an era for Aussie great teams having Lillee, Thommo, Pascoe etc as well as Chappell, Marsh, Border.
@jugheadsrule Жыл бұрын
It's not true to say the Windies were almost no chance. Kim Hughes was batting with a broken toe and had a runner, Greg Chappell was batting with a broken top hand and could hardly hold the bat.
