Australia's Impassable Fire Trail Fail || DRZ400E || Solo Amateur

Can this fire trail be completed by an everyday motorbike rider SOLO? This impassable fire trail is hidden within plain sight in the Sydney Blue Mountains.
This was my second attempt and second fail. I have no business on this track as a solo rider anymore.

Feel this video all the way mate, I did a solo last weekend and came across 4 water ways and walked them all before riding through, came to the fifth water way I thought the last 4 were good so I just rode it. She sunken in and I tried to dig her out for 2 hours, mud up to my knees bike got mud all through her, ended up waking 15 kms and fucked my feet and an over night stay in the bush, finally got phone service and got hold of local fire service and they got me out, the fire unit 41 took my place sadly, we only just got the fire unit 41 out today. It goes to shoe how an hour ride can go to shit real fast.

Mate that sounds terrible. You’re right though. You can be travelling well but it only takes one little mistakes or mishap to end a normal ride and turn it into an ordeal. Your story sounds crazy though.

you sabotaged yourself, you can't stop in the bottom of a gully and climb over logs to get out from a standstill. same as you can't ride up a steep loose hill at idle. good on you for going back again and having another go but the only thing stopping you is you, confidence is everything you have to believe you can do it and you have to commit if you lose your momentum around the corner before the hill go down and try again. your bike needs a new battery has done for a while, i do hope you go back and hit it again with confidence, because your bike can do it and so can you.

Mate you’re spot on with the battery, it’s been on its way out for ages and I have just avoided it. Silly of me for not replacing it ages ago. Normally I get up any hill or track. This one is just different from anything I have ever encountered. But yes more skill and confidence would help. I still believe this track would trip up a lot of riders. 👍

About time you forked out for a kick starter kit Lance or maybe even a small jump pack. Also look at a Lithium battery when you upgrade. More grunt and heaps lighter.

I think you make some of these obstacles harder for yourself by being too cautious. I find a bit of tenacity goes a long way, you'll be very surprised what you and the bike are capable of if you just send it every now and then. The second bottleneck with the log definitely could have been tackled with a bit of momentum and a lift of the front wheel. Altogether good ride though looks like very interesting terrain.

I agree. Can highly recommend some off road training (like Chris Birch or other high level professional). This will greatly improve your skillset and provide better understanding and confidence in tackling obstacles and making line choices. Totally impressed by your commitment and willingness to achieve what you set out to do. Additional training will compliment the skills you already possess and provide more understanding of what you and your bike are capable of. This should make things a little easier for you and your riding will become even more enjoyable. Keep up the good work!

Guys I’m just winging it out there and wish I was a better rider. Just too much time between rides to progress at a good level. I’m all commitment but at times take on too big of a challenge. Although the camera does downplay this one a lot. All good though 🤙

If he had a mate or two along for the ride he could afford to take more chances. Remember the bike is not 110kg or under it’s up around 150kg which makes a big difference especially when you get it sideways and upside down on a steep hill. Add to that he ain’t trailering his bike there or home. Realistically for these types of tracks a YZ250 or 300EXC is the bike of choice but I didn’t come here to watch a chook chaser I came to watch a DRZ400E. I do think you should have another person with you though Lance.

Great video Lance. I also go riding solo, on a DRZ, and can relate to the way you tackle obstacles alone. I found that I air on the side of caution and sometimes put myself down for being a coward.. at the end of the day we want to make it home alive, and with the bike. It is worth walking a bike over an obstacle rather than trying to ride over it with speed and losing your bike down a gully. I definitely take more risks when riding with others though. People who have never tackled the bush alone wouldn't understand that you naturally adapt a different way of riding.

100 percent mate. I am normal keen as to take on obstacles solo. But until your at a few of the choke points on this track it’s hard to describe the surface and lack of grip which would then send me down a gully or similar. Keep up the solo rides my friend. 🤙

Hey g’day, Lance enjoyed your video. looks like the hard work proved to be fun in the end-can I suggest four things , either a 47 or a 52 tooth sprocket , and maybe lighten up ,the original tank will still get your close on 200 k’s range ,replace the battery with an SSB lithium? You won’t regret it ,and also get your forks and rear shock rebuilt with the forks you can buy some reasonably cheap pressure release buttons. (on those DRZ cartridge forks, want to release the build up pressure. It makes a big difference. )They screw straight into the bleeder screw hole. Regards Rob Mc.

i think if you ditched the big ol DR and got say a 350 or 450 for this stuff your riding ability and confidence will go through the roof mate as you're clearly a fit strong fella. you'll see how easy these tracks can be with the right tool which will then lead to confidence and your mindset will shift leading to attacking these obstacles not just merely trying to get through them. The old DR while it might be a trusty old steed, it's also holding you back mate.

I’m not saying it’s not hard but your riding technique, line selection and lack of confidence made that much harder than it needed to be. I hope an experienced rider gives it a go and posts a video for comparison. Something for you to consider is that as well as providing support and doubling your safety, riding with others also teaches you skills and techniques that you be a lifetime plus, learning from trial and error, riding alone. Also tackling that trail alone a second time with a dodgy battery was not a smart move. Especially on a bike with no kickstarter. As well as replacing your battery you should invest in a compact lithium jumpstarter like the one Motobat make. Leave as little to chance as possible when out solo. Good vid. Track looks like fun. Change all your lights to LED to reduce drain on the battery. Also, put cooling fans on so you can charge the battery without overheating the engine.

Lance your description of your suspension suggests standing up would be more beneficial, as you can absorb bumps with your legs, effectively giving you two sets of suspension. I also see you rarely using clutch when hill climbing, so that when you have to go off throttle to change direction etc, you lose momentum, you should keep the engine revving more. Extra revs will also stabilise the bike (gyro effect) which will make it easier to navigate at slow speeds.

Old guy here, intending on getting a bike in the not too distant future. I keep wondering about riding in this area if ultimately you will encounter these demanding places on nearly every fire trail/track as there is no way I could manage it. Are there 'tons' of much easier tracks in the area? Like someone else said, I'm in it for the pleasure, not so much the extreme challenges. Even when I was younger I doubt I could handle the trails you do Lance. Must commend you on your attitude and aptitude. Bit worrying, but these rides you do... very impressive! 👍🏻💯

I just re-watched the prior ep last night, just got my Dr running that I picked up recently (as mentioned on your last vid) had to do a full rebuild on the carb before I could even ride it but that's done and I love it... so happy i went with the Dr after all my prior deliberations (and that's coming from someone who has never sat on any bike except the L' course 125cc hondas lol) Have a sus of wikiloc app also, it has lots of good trails mapped, I only discovered it last night and am keen as to go hit some of my local offerings in the BBay area on the southcoast.... I'd be up for a ride with such a humble bloke as yourself if your ever down these ways... shaka

choke point 2: (and for other similar obstacles such as where you got stuck at 15mins) you should learn how to load the flywheel - hold clutch in, build revs, drop clutch and drop revs then pick up revs as bike has lurched over obstacle and begins to stall, repeat if necessary - it stops you sitting revving the back wheel repeatedly as you basically use the power that is stored in the engine rather than digging stupid holes with the rear

@@callumwhite2941 mate head east along Tablerock Firetrail and Gilbraltar track is off to the right a few kilometres down. If you’re riding well you’ll do the hard bit in ten minutes I reckon. If struggling you’ll be there for hours.

You didn't have to carry your bike over that big tree on the way back, when you come out of the creek there is a track to the left about 20mtrs up that will bypass the fallen tree in either direction. You even looked up there for a sec. I have seen a guy go over the edge at that fallen tree and it took along time to get his bike back up!! The last time I did that track was about three weeks ago and it is getting worse especially on the corner you got stuck at.

The terrain was not the problem, it is your bike. If you cannot ride your bike in all types of terrain, then you'll struggle when you come to terrain you cannot ride. If you were on smaller lighter bike you would have had far less of an issue. Especially in that harsher terrain, a hard enduro guy would use that stuff to warm up on... I do not see the point of your exercise, also your gear should be as low as you can accept on the open trails. 14/50 or 13/50 would be my choice of gearing. Also you should fix your bike so it makes it thru shit like that.. Last but not least DONT RIDE ON YOUR OWN...
