Australia’s supposed transition to renewable energy an 'expensive failure’

Australia's supposed transition to renewable energy is a “failure and an expensive one” at that, says Sky News host Caleb Bond.
“There's nothing wrong with there being renewable energy in the mix so long as it is economically viable not just for the producer, but also the consumer,” he said.

By the time we have done this nine times over, then we start all over again because the life span of all this infrastructure, except for transmission lines, is only 20 years. The difference is that once we start the second cycle of deployment (and costs of course), all the old stuff is either put into landfill or stored somewhere and the CO2 emissions that were expended in China to make all this stuff, will have been wasted.

in the case of solar MASSES of inverter banks to convert the dc to ac before the substations u mentioned with the rest of the pap required , monitoring/balancing equipment , all of which are hidden costs bowen is not discloosing/ being honest about but must surely know of, and he is using bogus figures on the "uptime" , 20% at best but he uses 27% in his models because that was a peak time and good for the model , plus one reactor will tun for 30 years without refuelling like in the submarines, 100 years with refuelling and maintenence/upgrades added as they are invented, this blows blackout boy's plan not only out of the water but out into space , dodgy models and crazy ideology cant fight real numbers, real world sucesses, the four to five times longevity , low maintenence for decades, the "waste" being a valuable resource for radio isotopic generators AND radio thermo electric generators, but valuable to combine with thorium to fuel a new generation of molten salt dedicated breeding reactors to make masses of new plutonium and uranium fuel for above mentioned power reactors as well as space colonization base reactors , for mars [ hi elon, i need a job by the way!~] the moon and space craft to get to all these places.. it makes sense to me to make the fuel in large central secure reactor facillities , [inside a mountain perhaps?] to fuel all other reactors everywnere just by fuel deliveries and the power reactors can be just "burners " only , removing the complexity and decreased efficiency of trying to "breed and burn" in situ or the massive fuel loads required for fast neutron reactors. if you use a molten salt pure burner design , you can have your cake and eat it too in that burn up rates of the fuel is almost 100% [ 96%?] including nasty transuranics that get all chomped up in the normal operation just like the fuel , [we can even separate these nasties from long lived waste[ thats why its "long lived" because of these trans uranics] from all earlier and existing reactors and throw in in to as fuel to rid ourselves of this stuff instead of waiting 10,000 years for each half of it to go away] further increasing out bottom line for this tech, the waste is not waste, its fuel, fission products that are useful all sorts of things medical and devices that make power for decades , and depleated uranium that can be made into more fuel in the big central reactor starting the cycle over again , this is ny vision for the future , who's with me?

We installed ground source heating in our new build in Scotland. The equipment was expensive at around £30,000 but every three months the government gives us an incentive payment, which I can only assume is a bribe to us so that they can tick another box. I would have preferred a simple condensing gas boiler with a tank of LPG. In the UK the electricity grid is lagging years behind demand thanks to lack of investment by the owners of the utilities, who are more interested in monetising their investment with dividends and Director bonuses than in investing in the network. The grid is still set up to distribute power from a small number of large central power stations and in the meantime investors wishing to generate power through green sources, wind, solar, tidal, biomass are held back because the network can't connect them. In our Scottish glen the system is at its limit of capacity, it fails often and if every household bought an EV fuses would be blowing 50 miles away in Glasgow.

Remember the days when WE owned the power generation and distribution network? Profits went into expanding and improving the system and there was enough profit to go into government coffers to help pay for health, education, roads and pensions. Remember when WE owned the telephone network and calls were cheaper, the equipment was amongst the best in the world and service was not a sit and take your turn in an hour's time affair. We could drive from one side of a city to the other without a single toll. All this was privatised to give us better services and cheaper prices. All the money that once went into our health and education and ..... is now going into the pockets of multinationals and we are now paying more taxes and higher prices to pick up the shortfall while our education system becomes an indoctrination of the young and health care which was the envy of the world becomes a hopeless train wreck. We've been lied to, used and abused and still we vote for the political parties that have done this to us. Looks like we are getting exactly what we deserve.

Add to that the absorption of carbon dioxide in continental Australia to the carbon dioxide adsorption of 2,500,000 square kilometres of continental shelf waters and Australia sequesters some five times as much carbon dioxide as it emits.

There should be an inquiry into the solar power industry in Australia - in fact the whole green energy sector. As it is a mess between state and Federal governments all seeking the moral high ground over a issue that is lost in political lies. As everyone is racing to install solar - or wind turbines. And roof top solar on people's houses can be turned off automatically by your inverter responding to s signal if the electricity in your street goes above 240 volt. And your roof top solar switches off - and you are not being paid despite the fact - the system can generate electricity. And you are being told save the planet. Seems labor - AGAIN. As only big solar farms get to sell the electricity they produce. You are told you are saving the planet. Mind you labor - lie about anything. That's how they float in the political swamp.

There are a number of problems here that labor are not telling you. Labor state governments are making anyone who sells a solar inverter - have certain firmware or software. Now what labor don't tell you is this. If the electricity in your street is above 240 volts in the mains power lines - your inverter automatically turns itself off. And you wont be told you are not exporting electricity. And that means the solar panels on your roof - are worthless. Now you can't recycle solar panels. That what the solar panel installers say. They should know they sell and install them. And the people who think they are "saving the planet" with solar panels - their systems are being stopped from exporting electricity. Which you were told that was the reason to put them on your roof. Now - think of this like back a few years - maybe like Albo's mother. A good Catholic - despite battling hard to raise her child - she still gave money to the Catholic Church - despite the church not saying no to her - she did not have to do that. This is the same thing. You are being told put solar on your roof - you are saving the planet. To be a good model citizen. The other issue here. Is the design of your local electricity grid also tells another story labor hides. Electricity grids are designed to carry power away from power stations. So people in country areas - cannot send solar electricity back to the city. As the country power grid can't carry the load to run a city. The country power lines are much smaller. And your solar panels - are turned off without you even knowing about it. So why buy solar panels to export electricity - when they turn off your system. Isn't that lying to you ? Of course it is. The government writes the rules. The solar companies must comply. And people are told - you are "saving the planet." No sorry folks - you were lied to - yet again. This story evolved - in case of a house fire in your street - they need to turn your solar off. No folks - if there is to much electricity being pumped into the electricity grid - they automatically turn off your solar. The companies who sell inverters - can only sell them if - they comply. So the big solar farms - where labor gets campaign donations from - can supply solar to the electricity grid without being disconnected. So labor screws you - all round. Don't mind - labor do it to everyone. Labor are an equal opportunity - lying political party. Everyone gets lied to.

And why are we doing all this self inflicted pain? What will be the actual climate reduction? (temperature reduction we assume, you can't reduce the climate) No one will give any specific answer to that. I can only assume because they have no idea. Could be, no outcome at all, after killing off the economy. What is the actual percentage of the atmosphere that is CO2 right now? It is 0.038% , a figure that everyone seems very reluctant to mention. This is a tiny amount. Out of that 0.038%, what percentage is man made, and what percentage is naturally occurring that we cannot influence? Another figure no one is very keen to mention. According to the scientists, the ones that actually measure these numbers and publish their results, 97% of CO2 is naturally occurring, 3% is man made. So the western world is in a blind panic, spending tens of trillions of dollars to date, for a non measurable result to date, to get to an unknown unspecified outcome. Out of these tiny weeny CO2 numbers, Australia accounts for about 1%. I am all for being fuel efficient, I do not like to see fuel or resources wasted or squandered, but so far, we seem to be intent on squandering and wasting vast resources and money and effort, for no tangible outcome, on any level. We should stop doing this, and killing off our economy in the process. If we stopped doing this tomorrow, and carried on with coal fired power stations, what actual difference, meaning give a specific number, will it make to the climate? It would be very difficult to even measure it, given that China is building new coal fired power stations as fast as they can. Why did we ever sign up this nonsense, that no one can afford.

And doubtless you get that warm feeling of self awarded virtue for this madness. Pity you don't give a toss about everyday Australians. Who are struggling to pay their bill now. And doubtless will be unable to pay much more. Guess they'll have to go without power. To save the planet. Right?

A lot of Europe's renewable energy (wind) companies are pulling out of building for the UK. Their contracts are for a fixed supply price of energy, but with the costs of labour and materials skyrocketing, the projects have become unviable as they will run at a loss and never make any money.

Labor expertise in expensive failures is evidenced in the many white elephants that dot the Australian landscape. Queensland still awaits the vaunted drought proofing promised decades ago with billions invested at little effect. You would think Hans Christian Anderson writes Labor policy.

I am all up for renewable energy. Hell, I’ve been a supporter for Greenpeace for 30 years. But what concerns me, is that what I saw on live TV about the wind farms getting destroyed by the storms, and the solar farms getting smashed by hail. So, I wonder? The A.L.P. would never admit that this could happen here. So what if it does? Major power outages, loss of internet. A serious calamity. The thing is, that the weather/climate is changing. Whether we want it or not, Australia will get hit as well. Until our coal industry runs out, let’s keep people in jobs. Let’s keep our power bills down, so people are not struggling every month. One day, we will run out of coal. Nuclear power will be the way to go, because no matter what happens with the weather, there will always be power.

Don't forget the need for batteries to store energy. If you need 100 Gigawatts, you will need to generate at least 200 Gigawatts so you can store energy for when the wind doesn't blow and at night when solar doesn't generate. So, you need at least double the generation capacity and massive costly batteries. Also keep in mind that the solar panels and batteries both degrade and need periodic replacement. Windmills need constant maintenance and also fail and need replacement. So unlike coal, gas, and nuclear which last for 40 to 60 years, these renewable costs are never ending. It would be interesting how they figured the amount of renewable energy needed, did they take into account the extra needed to charge the batteries?
@tassied12
@tassied12 Жыл бұрын
Your maths is fautly. Demand patterns peak during the day when there is plenty of solar energy and fall away at night. Analysis shows that the need for storage is greatest in the late evening and early morning peaks, then falls right away outside those times
@tpbtpb2602
@tpbtpb2602 Жыл бұрын
@@tassied12 So in the morning and evening there is minimal Solar power and at night there is usually no wind, so all the power has to come from the batteries which have to be charged at the same time during the day when the solar power is being produced. This means more solar panels and windmills are needed than enough to supply the actual power usage. I don't know if that mean 50% more or 100% more generating capacity. Also the batteries need to be able to store enough energy to replace generated power on multiple cloudy or windless days.
@tassied12
@tassied12 Жыл бұрын
@@tpbtpb2602 Our current coal dominated grid has about a 30% overbuild of capacity to cope with outages, as coal plants are large single points of failure which need substantial backup when they go down. Analysis of NEM generation over the last 12 months show that with the same level of overbuild of wind and solar the periods in which you need to call on substantial extra storage are quite short. It varies from site to site, but wind is generally negatively correlated with solar so you get higher wind generation during winter and in the evenings. Callide C in Qld has had a unit offline for over 2 years. At least the sun gets up each day.

Politicians remind me of Laurel and Hardy , Oliver Hardy use to say to Stan Laurel , can't you do anything right? That's what kind of politicians we've had and got now over the last 50 years in Australia, everything politicians get involved with they stuff it up and cost us Australians millions and billions, that being said, the question is, can anyone come up with a good politician over the the last 50 years? If you can answer this question bear in mind that I'm like a lot of other Australians are very sceptical of politicians
