That fence isn't electric, it's grounded to the steel droppers, there aren't any isolators on them. The humming sound you can hear is just the wind making the wires hum. We have a horse property and certain sections of our fencing has been know to do it in the slightest breeze. ps The Tia proof fence is a real thing, we all had to chip in for it's construction before you got here 😂😂😂

Back in 1977 when I was 18 we were travelling around Australia and were between Coober Pedy and Alice Springs in the middle of "Whoop Whoop" and here were to young blonde haired Austrian girls hitch hiking, we were in a Falcon Ute and they jumped in the back for around a 100 klm to a crossroad to I can't remember where and there was a small settlement where they got out and we continued our journey to the Alice, We could not believe it that these two girls would be that daring to travel in such a remote area where there is nothing but desert and lots of flies, did I mention LOTS of FLIES!!!!

The Legend of the Billy Brownless Silo Kick: AFL Geelong forward Billy Brownless was on his way to a wedding in West Wyalong with a few mates in the late ‘80s. It was a stinking hot day, so the lads dropped into the Royal Hotel to freshen up. Brownless asked why the footy was behind the bar. The explanation prompted him to shrug off the effects of afternoon beers and, in his bare feet, boot the ball over the hulking cylinders. The celebrations forced he and his fellow wedding guests to miss the ceremony and a good part of the reception. Folklore surrounded this so Brownless returned to Mirrool, 600 kilometres north of Melbourne, for the inaugural silo challenge in October, 1992. The presence of Brownless was central to the event's initial success. Today , the Mirrool Annual Silo Kick Challenge is now held annually in October with $1,000.00 prize money. Yay Billy!! 👏

G’Day Guys, I have been binging your Videos with nostalgia. Back in 1974 My wife and I started from Perth and had an adventure of a lifetime. The Nullabore was dirt road. We stopped at that abandoned roadhouse you two went into The population was written on a bit of cardboard 3. It was just after floods. We stopped in Hervey Bay QLD to get married where she grew up. We slept in our Station Waggon. What a trip. 50 years we’ve been together. Sadly I lost my girl last week. Our journey together has ended, I wish you two a long and happy life. Thanks for the memories.

Another very entertaining video. The reason you don't fly drones in Coober Pedy is because of the opal mines. Miners are justifiably paranoid about people looking around their claim due to Ratters (ratters are people who sneak into a mine to steal opal)

That's not true, miners (and any other individual) have no say in airspace restrictions. All of Coober Pedy is restricted because of the airport and once you get out of town you cross over into R246 (the Woomera restricted airspace)

Went through Coober Pedy in 1984. Stopped at the pub which was full of wild looking people with spiky hair and chains, etc. Thought "what a rough place" Then barman told us they were all extras on "Thunderdome" and that if we'd been an hour earlier we could have met Tina Turner!

Canberra had an awesome mined jewellery shop in Civic. It only recently closed due to the Owner, Peter, retiring. Peter did the mining too. It was always one of the shops I went to in Civic and where I first saw a boulder Opal. Such treasures there! Thank you for sharing your travels!

Cheveyo you earned a lot of browny points buying that opal. Next stop the rock shop in Coolgardie. Should old Vern still be prospecting you may even pick up a beautiful piece of gold in black quartz. So much more to see. You'll love Kalgoorlie and it's history.

Thanks for going to Cooper Pedy for me! It's somewhere I wanted to see, along with Uluru, but my dr has told me not to travel that far! I have some Paua Shell jewellry made in New Zealand from my grandmother, but no opals! What an interesting experience, I see now it's far more than a group of underground mining shacks and a few rough miners! LOL, another great video guys! Well done! I guess it's a little sad that you have to go back via the southern route and miss the west coast. But on the bright side, you did get to do Copper Pedi. If I may offer some beginner driving advice, Always reverse with a window down. That way, if somebody is yelling and screaming, "Stop Stop, go forward!", You can hear them, and you don't continue to run over the child you couldn't see run behind you or other calamity awaiting your rear end! Even today, after 40 years of driving, I still reverse my window down just in case. It has save me a couple of times, even though people think I'm a good driver compared to most. Enjoy the 90mile straight again. P.S. Thanks for showing the silo art this time 'round.

Hi, love your channel. I happened upon it with you picking up the new Mazda 4WD in Perth and enjoyed it so much, I went back to the start and binged my way through. The pair of you remind so much me of my wife and I, when we first toured Aus way back in the 1970's (many of the main roads, including some of the Nullabor, were still unsealed back then, but we drove 2wd anyway). We have visited practically all the places you have and it is so nice to see a young couple enjoying time on the road. With Tia's attraction to big things, I was surprised you didn't show Kimba's Big Galah in this episode? It is only 200 metres up the road on the same side and practically opposite the grain silos! Did you actually miss it? There you go, you'll have to do what some Aussies do after doing the Big Lap, turn around and go around the other way! All the best, looking forward to watching to the point where I catch up to the end of the Aus video. We used to go gold and opal prospecting for holidays as kids.. White Cliffs was where we went for opal, its the same white/crystal opal as Coober Pedy. (black opal, white opal, crystal opal, jelly opal, fire opal, hyalite, water opal, hydrophane and honey opal) We found a lot of bits on the "mullock heaps" as kids.. some really nice bits.. (mullock heaps are the dirt buildup around a mine) There are estimated to be well over 1 MILLION holes out there.. its actually quite dangerous and a big snake area too, so you have to be a bit careful.. I hand polished 2 stones (after 60 YEARS in a bottle) and we got them put into a necklace for our Mums 80th birthday.. Opal mining is cool, there are still people making money from it. And more than one fortune has been made while digging an underground home/extension. Thats a nice necklace for $65..

I'm so glad she bought an opal!!!! I did the same, as an American coming to Australia - but I didn't know much, so what I bought was called a "triplet," which is basically opal dust re-formed against an obsidian backing. That makes the opal affordable. I suspect Tia got a triplet. My triplet is beautiful - having so many colours, really catches the light nicely. But I have a goal to get a real stone, Australian opal.

Coober Pedy is surrounded by the Woomera Prohibited Area. The Woomera Prohibited Area is a large government military weapons testing area. So it's understandable that drones are not permitted.

Loving your videos, thank you for taking us with you. There is a giant natural wonder in Southern WA called Wave Rock. A natural rock formation that looks like an enormous wave. It is really worth seeing, if you feel inclined. You guys would love it….you can walk through and upon to it 💛

I second that! The phenomenon that is Wave Rock in Hyden WA truly doesn’t get the recognition it deserves along with the nearby ancient rock formations and caves. And perfect location for yet another Tiaforscale! Most visitors strike a ‘surfing pose’ for an iconic photo or video!

My brother in law was a police officer in Coober Pedy quite a few years ago. He left the force and mined opal there. He and the family lived in a dug out house. Usual front then leads into underground rooms. I stayed with them and in the dugout bedroom at night it was the darkest dark you can imagine. Absolutely no light, it felt “thick” like cut it with a knife. Totally disorienting. Unfortunate you did not see right whales on the the Bight section of your trip. Quite awesome. A side note… In several working stints for a close mate in Sapphire, Anaki, RubyVale Central Queensland - Aka Gem Fields machine mining sapphires. I was fortunate to experience several mining positions in Gold and Opals. Fun Fact: in the 1880’s A town west of Winton in the middle of the never never was a bustling prospecting community of 600 where some of the best opal was discovered . One (log) in particular being 3 meters long 😮 incredible!! Boulder opal was the main kind of opals as it’s referred to. It was an experience for me and while I was sitting on an excavator eating a sandwich with a net over my face trying to enjoy every bite because so many damn flies! The Gold mining among the famous Rosewoods Fields central Queensland was another experience. The landscape in these three towns I’ve mentioned I guess a very similar to the landscape in Cooba Pedy where you stayed. These towns are like the Wild West when I worked there and I’ve recently gone back to work for a month or so in my mates mine… on his property I managed to catch some drone footage and from the air it’s just like the moon surface. A shame you didn’t throw the drone up in the air… 🤔😢 Anyway the video was still great for those people never seeing such Kinda remote landscape… When you go back to Australia you have to go west and yes hire a 4 x Keep the videos coming your content is interesting ✌🏻😉

As to your comment about 4WD, there is a reason that the two places with the highest sales numbers of Land Cruisers are Siberia and Australia. A good 4WD opens up so much more of the country. Often, the best bits.

Hearing the sounds of the galahs on this video was glorious - a truly Australian bush sound. Their call takes me back to evenings at my grandmother's farm on southern Yorke Peninsula. You know what a galah is right? Those large grey cockatoos with deep pink breasts, their name also refers to someone who is a bit silly. Looking forward to the next video :) x

Hi guys, You don't have to back track all the way. When you get to Norseman, turn right and then right at the Kambalda turn off and then left to go to Kalgoorlie-Boulder City. Apart from the Superpit, there is a lot to see in the area. You will then pass through Coolgardie on your way to Perth so there will be no back tracking at all. Don't miss Kal........😁

If you want a good drone shot on your back way to Perth. Collie has an entire dam wall painted. Largest mural in southern hemisphere. Also has an instagram location. Black Diamond. Coal mining museum and heaps more!

Just a word re 4x4’s; I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve known a few travellers who buy their 4x4’s from other backpackers in the bigger cities. They fit them out with whatever they need/want, do their travels then sell them before flying home or elsewhere. Of course they’ve done some km’s & would need to be checked out thoroughly, although they’re generally well maintained because who wants to break down in the back of beyond!😅They can be cheaper than the market price because of the necessity to offload the vehicle before heading out. Marketplace(fb)always have a few. Just a thought 💭 Safe travels✌🏼

You can see a great deal around the Flinders Rangers in a normal car easily! Lots of walking tracks too. Wilpena Pound is a great place to start.

You said from Port Augusta you will be back tracking, I am sure you may already realise this but when you get to Norseman turn right to Kalgoorlie and you will be on new roads. A great side trip from there is up to Gwalia ghost town.
