As a Western Australian, the only reason why our GDP per capita is so high is because we have the most mines in the country, and this is what brings Australia its wealth. The average Western Australian is not as rich as the average eastern states Australian.

Anyone can just go earn 150k a year in WA without going to uni or getting a trade, the average west Australian is probably better off

@@baconliontigers985 anyone in any other state of Australia could do that as well. They just have to fly a further distance. Other than mining jobs, west aussies are definitely not better off

There’s plenty of minerals to mine all over Australia, not just in WA, but the regulatory regimes are far more onerous. If you want a higher GDP per capita in Victoria and Tasmania, get off the hose!
@RDDHopsing77
@RDDHopsing77 Ай бұрын
Australia is just one big quarry with minerals everywhere. There are more mines outside of WA and more mining income is generated outside WA. It was only recently that for a couple of years export income from coal (mainly from NSW and Qld) exceeded export income from iron ore (mainly WA). Though you're correct in that as WA has a small population the influence of mining income on GDP is much greater.

I was quite surprised to see the GDP per capita of BC and Ontario to be way below New South Wales (Sydney). Australia really benefits from its proximity to Asia

When I was 17 Tasmania was at the bottom. Western Australia had twice the gdp and Nunavut was 3 times as much. Looking forward to how it changed.

I’m a Canberren. Although politics is a part of the ACT the vast majority of us is not involved in bureaucracy. Most politicians and their staff are of course spread all over the country and are only in town during sitting time. The success of the economy is a healthy mix of educational services, financial, legal, scientific, health services, hospitality, consultancy and even logging and yes the public service sector as well.
