The Burger King name was already registered when they came to Australia in the early 1970s hence the same logo different name Hungry Jacks. Hungry Jacks is still owned by its Australian founder Canadian Jack Cohen. They tried to charge for pumping up car tyres in the 1980s, it only lasted a year or two the lost fuel sales for those that charged to those that didn't killed it.

Good video guys. The free playgrounds, water parks, bbqs etc, are the reasons why we don't mind so much paying higher taxes. At least we can see where our money goes, and it really helps families, who can't afford to go out a lot.

It’s common here in Australia not to have bank branches. (you’re in Queensland?). So you’ll get a shock in NSW. Most suburbs don’t have a local bank branch. Many of us use online and don’t use cash much. That surcharge on debit cards is a new thing here. Banks gouging because they can. People are fighting back.

Perth too. Heaps of branches are closing, most of us use online banking too. I feel sorry for members of the older generation who struggle with technology.

I agree - though last year in London I went into a pub that did not accept cash, in the Blue Mountains lots of branches have closed leaving places like Leura with none and Springwood & Katoomba with a lot less. In Sydney CBD both branches and ATMs are disappearing. For cash I now rely on Australia Post whose sub post offices have not suffered like those impacted by the Horizon software scandal in the UK.

The banks don't seem to appreciate that using electronic finance costs the banks and the merchants less than handling cash...no refilling floats, no need for extra security with night safes, no risk with staff getting bashed and robbed.

Welcome to Oz! I remember being blown away that we had to pay to put air in our tyres on our trip to the UK 😅 Crazy. I LOVE the UK, but I definitely noticed people thought I was batshit crazy when I'd say hello to a stranger, or bus driver etc. Regarding banks here in Aus, I researched and found my current banks so that I had no hidden charges. Macquarie and Ubank will send you the money back if you get a surcharge or atm fee except on rare occasions. Macquarie does charge to withdraw cash though, so I only use Ubank for that 😊 I was born in the UK to an English dad, so vinegar on chips is a must! You can get it some places, but not enough, I agree. All the very best to you both. Enjoy 😊

Hi guys...My wife & I along with our four young children emigrated here from the UK back in 1970, we now have 14 Grandchildren & 20 Great Grandchildren so we have done our bit in helping to populate the country...lol. We are with The Commonwealth Bank and we don't pay any surcharge even when using a credit card...Some of the things you have not mentioned about are, all the free parking here in Aus especially at supermarkets and side streets whereas in the UK you have to pay for parking almost everywhere, another point is how much cleaner the streets are here compared to streets in the UK, also everywhere you go all over Aus there are plenty of parks with FREE BBQ's & FREE TOILETS, for example we live in a small country town with less than 2000 people yet we have 3 very nice big parks with play areas for kids and FREE BBQ's & TOILETS. About 20 years ago my wife and I travelled all the way around Aus with a small camper trailer and we mostly stayed on FREE camping areas. Also we get a lot more holidays here than in the UK even a holiday for the Queens/Kings Birthday and many people work just a 4 day week on full pay. My wife and I are now in our 80s and love life here it is home to us and we wish you every happiness here in this great country.

In Qld it's also illegal for JPs to charge for their services and they can have their role taken away from them if they do so. You can also look up the register of JPs who want to be accessible and the website includes their contact numbers. I'm doing my JPQ early next year when I move because there are fewer JPs in regional areas.

Chicken salt is nothing other than MSG. You get it in the UK. Hungry Jacks and Burger King are the same company - when Burger King first came to Australia there was a local burger chain with almost the same name so they called it Hungry Jacks instead!! Banking outlets are disappearing in Australia too, probably not as rapidly as in the UK, and it's because most banking is done online now.

@@TheGreatEmigrate MSG is great, in small quantities mind. Chicken salt has no chicken in it. I think it was introduced by Chinese guys selling fish and chips in Australia and wanting it to taste better. I think they got it right. Sarson's vinegar should be a staple here in Australia too.
