It's always great to watch Aussie videos to help out with this transition into soldier as I find its more relatable than if it were from another country, it puts you in the physical space in your mind and visualisation of your future location is really helpful to me :D

I joined the army at 45, before I went to 1RTB I was doing 22 over grasp pull ups, 8 shuttle, 78 pushups, 100 sit-ups. After 6 weeks of recruit training I had lost most of my fitness. I have completed the recruit course twice, ten years apart. The physical side of training is much easier than before, . Dont stress about it, its to easy.

In general, I'd say people struggle the most with the exercises that you're travelling fine with, but it's mostly the 2.4km qualifying run that kills people - I'd be aiming to get 11:18 on that BEFORE Kapooka

Back in 2013 in my mid 40s I could do 30 pushups, 60 plus situps in one minute and did a peak 10.3 bleep test. This was because I enrolled into a local gym's bootcamp and in one year I went from 120+ kilos to about 94. Then I went slack in the last half of 2015....and have been since. This last week I was on the ADF website and now I feel inspired again. Will I join the Reserves? Lets see what happens. ☺

@htsk48983 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. You might be lucky and have some blokes in your squad that will do little fitness things here and there but honestly preparation is key. Get as fit as you can before going and if you have spare time do some extra situps and pushups. Cardio wise, you'll have no issue as they literally march you everywhere, go hard on your runs when you get the chance.

Tristan G you definately do. If you're nervous about it, prepare by forcing yoirself to go to your local beach or pool in Speedos. If you can do it indont of pretty girls, you can definately do it in front a bunch of men who are more focused on passing the test than your little willy

@htsk48988 жыл бұрын
You'll never run more than 4km at a time, and cardio (in the form of running) is usually only done for assessments, so 4 or 5 times for me :)

@keithbrennan72807 жыл бұрын
Sam as a Reservist doing the 5week RRTC there is very little time on the course for PT. As you can imagine, trying to cram as much as possible from full time course into a much shorter period. There is very little PT other than lessons on how various Various physical Military training is conducted - like intros. The aim is to be Very fit before you go as the physical training on course will barely maintain the level of fitness you arrive with, though the course is mentally & physically taxing. I recommend to my Soldiers to be able to achieve if not exceed the Recruit Fitness test at the end, which is the last assessment IOT pass the course. I believe the satandard is for Men 12min 2.4km; 30 pushups & 60 situps. For Females it is 14min 2.4km; 15 pushups & 60 situps (I think - I may be wrong on the pushups)
