Ants are extremely social animals, and rely on their antenna to sense out the pheromone trail left by other ants to know where to go. The one ant was panicking because the leaf cut him off from the pheromone trail. That's also why he didn't want to go around the leaf, because it's brand new ground with no pheromones.

I love the difference between Flick and Hopper, the reason why Hopper had control for so long was simple intimidation, and how the Ants would never change their ways. Flick is constantly evolving and changing everything around him with new inventions and ideas, this is the exact opposite of what Hopper expects or wants from an ant. And it terrifies him.

In real life, the Queen is the mother of all the ants of the colony. Also, only her and the princesses have wings, except she cut hers and lays eggs her whole life. The antennas' thing, Hopper does to Atta saying she doesn't have the queen's scent is because ants have particular pheromones who help them to recognize if they're from the colony or not. It's also thanks to pheromones if ants follow always the same line and the falling leave hide it that's why the ant panicked. PS : there's cameos of " A bug's life " in " Toy Story 2 " and one of the " Cars " movies
